About this listing
Our home- a restored farmhouse- is just 3km from the beach (2km from the Levanto train station) yet away from the crowds. Our spacious independent apartment has everything (including fresh eggs!) to make your vacation stay as pleasant as possible.
Great apartment between Levanto and Monterosso offers easy access to the Cinque Terre. Great place for hikers and nature lovers. The apartment is located on the bottom floor of our home, a typical Ligurian farmhouse that was originally built as a mill in the 1700s. A bubbling stream runs outside the apartment - wonderful for sleeping!
Our 2 room apartment features an independent entrance, fully equipped kitchen, 4 comfortable beds, outdoor space and fresh veggies from our garden and organic eggs from our chickens! We live onsite so we are available for advice or help when needed.
The apartment has high-speed wi-fi internet connection and a fully stocked English language book collection.
We are located in the township of Levanto, a charming village with an awesome beach and great restaurants. Monterosso (and the rest of the Cinque Terre) is located 6 minutes away on the train. OR you can get there by an hour and a half hike straight from the apartment.
It's best to bring a car, but its not necessary. If desired, there is a scooter rental place in Levanto. A parking pass which allows you to park free at the Levanto train station and in the center of town and at a discounted rate at the beach parking area is included with the rental.
This area was unfortunately affected by the devastating floods of October 25, 2011. Though the apartment is perfect, there is evidence of flood damage on our property.
We are a working Ligurian farm during the summer and our house is very old. The charm of our location is that it is 'real'- that can sometimes include spiders (the spindly nice ones, though we remove them when we clean!) sharing your space or fireflies coming through your windows. Our chickens sometimes escape and one of our dogs is very friendly and curious (and is a little bit of a beggar). Please do not expect luxury- we have a very comfortable apartment that has a very high price/quality ratio but, in the end, we are a rustic Ligurian farm. The great majority of our clients come just for this reason and we do everything we can to make everyone as happy and comfortable as possible. We are not on the beach and we are not a new construction however and we prefer that our potential guests have expectations that meet what we offer.
If you prefer a more central location in the Cinque Terre, or if you do not have a car, check out our other property in the heart of Monterosso! https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/679979
You'll have full access to our organic vegetable garden and eggs from our happy chickens. Ample private outdoor space.
Interaction with Guests
We live upstairs but have our own entrance so we are always available to answer questions or help out.
We are in a very quiet countryside environment. Our neighborhood is made up of locals, not tourists and since our road dead-ends above, there is very little traffic. We have fireflies in abundance in the summer- magical!
We highly suggest that you bring a car. The train station is only 2km away and we will leave you a pass which will allow you to park for free at the station and for the residents' rate in the other parts of Levanto.
Other Things to Note
We do live in a rural-ish area and so there are lizards, spiders, fireflies, dragonflies, frogs around (not in!) the house. Luckily where we live, there are NO MOSQUITOS! The apartment does not have air conditioning but it is naturally cool thanks to the thick, old walls.
Our family does share the villa with our guests. Therefore we ask that you please keep your voices and music down after 11 pm.
We are extremely energy conscious and expect all guests to be respectful of water, electricity and natural gas consumption and to make sure that all lights are out when not being used.
We have strict recycling rules in our township so guests are asked to separate their trash according to type and to either utilize the bins near the house or inform us if their trash is ready to be disposed of.
Our home is over 300 years old and has a very sensitive septic system. Please do not throw anything except for toilet paper in the toilet.
Kate was very welcoming and spent time with us giving us tips on enjoying the Cinque Terre. She supplied us with a parking permit which was very useful when we parked at Levanto station most days and even come by one evening when it turned slightly chilly armed with spare blankets! The house has a lovely feel part the way up a hill out of Levanto itself and we enjoyed collecting eggs each morning from her chickens to have for breakfast. A small stream next to the house adds to the charming feel of the location. The main bed was exceptionally comfy and Kate has a number of local guidebooks which proved quite handy. We were aware that the Cinque Terre is not car-friendly so this proved a great choice as we could park here (after a few days in Milan) and enjoy the area by train and hiking. We squeezed in day trip to Pisa as well which made good use of our car hire. Highly recommended.
We really enjoyed Kate's AirBNB .
Our flight was delayed and we missed the grocery store as it was closed.
She had some milk, juice and a bottle of bubbly waiting for us. There were a lot of staples present so made it easy re food prep.
Her space was perfect for the five of us girlfriends.
Loved picking the fresh tomatoes and other veggies and collecting the eggs for our brunch menus etc.
Appreciated the beach towels that we could use on our day excursions to the amazing beaches on the Italian Riveria.
She had a great binder with lots of info and many travel books we could access.
When emailed with a minor question she was quick to respond.
Her driving instructions were right on. I made the habit of turning at the top of the hill so could point down on leaving the space.
The sound of the brook was very peaceful and we even saw some shooting stars!!
Kate is a great host and I would definetly return.
Kate's place is a really sweet little apartment up in the hills behind Levanto. It's well equipped and clean, and Kate was full of useful information about the best way to access the villages of the Cinque Terre or simply go to the lovely local beach in Levanto.
We arrived in Levanto after a crazy, hot, sweaty and very long day of train travel to Kate's little oasis in the hills. She is a delight. Warm, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. This personal touch makes all the difference.
The apartment is immaculately clean, functional, very comfortable and CUTE. Our kids loved interacting with the chickens, cats and dogs and exploring the veggie patch. We picked fresh salad and herbs to go with our dinner. It was just so lovely.
We booked here thinking we would have a car but, in the end, we didn't. It would definitely be more convenient with your own transport but it's totally do-able without. It's about 30mins walk to the train station...a hot, sweaty walk back up at the end of the day. But we ended up just paying for cabs back up the hill (10E) and that was fine.
All in all, a fabulous place to stay. Highly recommend.
Hosts were very helpful and welcoming! Great rustic apartment for our vacation stay in the Cinque Terre area. Beach towels were even available for use during our stay! Location was quiet and relaxing. Close to Levanto train station and local grocer. So helpful to also get laundry done in the midst of our vacation! Will be recommending to our friends!

About the Host, Kate
I'm originally from Texas but have lived in Europe since 1987. I moved to Italy in 1989 and never left. I lived in Monterosso al Mare (Cinque Terre) for 18 years before moving to Levanto in 2007 with my husband and son.
I am passionate about making, eating and sharing good food. I love the sea and the woods and am frequently either hiking or out on a boat.
Even though I've spent nearly two-thirds of my life living in Europe, I have yet to lose my Texas accent. If you hear a 'y'all' thrown in here and there, don't be surprised.
Travel is essential for me- that's one reason I love Italy and Europe and how easy it to move around. Be it hiking on the islands off Sardinia, discovering spices in Turkey or exploring museums in Florence, I love new experiences and meeting new people. When I am home, I feed my imagination by reading.
We have a relaxed style of hosting our guests. For the guests staying in our house we often run into each other in the vegetable garden or chicken coop. Both our Levanto and Monterosso apartments have extensive updated house books that explain how to best enjoy the area. Even so, we are always available for information about our favorite beaches, restaurants, off the beaten path hiking trails and even recipes.
