About this listing
Our studio/apartment is on a typical Amsterdam houseboat. It is a modern, friendly and bright apartment very close to the centre (10 min. to CS). A good way of getting to know and enjoy our beloved and beautiful city. We also have two bicycles free.
We have our boat now for 8 years. We bought the boat as an empty barge and built it ourselves into a houseboat. Only the outside needs some paint to finish it all.The apartment is a spare part on our boat with a private entrance and very comfortable for a short holiday. It is situated very close to the centre but in an friendly and save neighbourhood. During the day you can choose the busy and alive city and at night sleep in a peacefull and quiet area. It's the best of both we always say.
We have free wifi on board, 2 bicycles for our guests and a sundeck outside. Our boat is on the south side of the islands so the sundeck has sun all day.
The apartment is well equipped with all the things you need for a comfortable stay.
We also have a stash of basic needs like coffee, tea, sugar, salt, seasoning, etc.
And by arrival we have a free nice bottle of wine for a good start of your stay.
Interaction with Guests
We love to help you out with providing information and help to have a pleasant stay. You are always welcome to ask about the city like what to do and where to go.
We also have an information folder with detailles about the neighbourhood and the city.
Our boat is located on the Borneokade in The Docklands, only 10 minutes from Central Station. The Docklands is located in the northeast of the city, it is the old port of Amsterdam, where coffee and spices used to be shipped in. Most ships are now converted into houseboats. In addition, the Docklands is known for its modern architecture. Developed since 1990, the area attracts many tourists, and provides the benefits and atmosphere of a harbor. There are many cozy and good bars, restaurants and shops, which are open seven days a week. If you are not afraid of the cold, you can even dare to swim in the water. The house is located just a short distance from the city center, and is attainable by bike or the frequent public transport connections.
There is easy access to the public transport. Within a short distance we have several stops for the bus and tram to bring you directly to central station, the museums or the centre. The cheapest way to travel with public transport is with an OV Chip cart. We can provide carts for 10 euro (with a credit of 10 euro).
boat - central station: bus 48 10 min.
boat - central station: tram 26 5 min. and a little walk
boat - museum (Van Gogh, Rijks museum, Stedelijk museum): 20 min.
boat - centre: by bicycle 10 min.
Other Things to Note
If you plan to come by car we advise you to park the car at the P&R Zeeburg. It's just one stop with the tram 26 from our apartment. If you park there the car is safe and you won't get any trouble with the parking in Amsterdam. The costs are 8 euro for a day with a free return ticket for the public transport.
While we did not meet Marike and her family, we were met by her sister Aldrith who was very helpful and accommodating. The pre-visit communications were clear and no problem. Aldrith told us about events taking place in Amsterdam Noord and supplied us with some literature. During our stay we needed a few things - like tickets printed, bubble wrap - and she kindly helped us out. The house-ship is in the Eastern Docklands, near groceries, tram, bus and restaurants. It is quiet and away from central Amsterdam. The water is right there and sets the mood. We were told that the waters were good for swimming. I saw locals in the water and so most mornings and on the occasional evening I swam next to the boat. Very lovely! In the first few days we used bus and tram, but then began using the two bicycles that come with the apartment. Foolish us! The bicycles were by far the best transport. Every part of Amsterdam is easily reachable by bike. We even took a free ferry across to Amsterdam Noord and explored that cool area! The apartment is very nice. It is roomy and functional for a single person or couple. All the amenities work like in your own home. We thought that there could have been a more places to hang towels or clothing, but this was a minor issue. The light - morning or evening - through the porthole windows was special. My wife noticed a small ship movement, I didn't, and it was not an issue. All in all, living for a week on a house boat in Amsterdam was very lovely!!
The host communicated really well with me before I arrived and helped me with information for my trip beforehand. They were welcoming, friendly and relaxed.
The studio is fantastic, much bigger than it looks in the photos, really comfortable and had everything you will need. It is quiet and relaxing.
The local area is really nice, good shops and food places nearby. Friendly and safe family neighbourhood, tram connections into central Amsterdam are easy and quick.
I will most certainly come back again here for longer next time I really enjoyed my stay. Many thanks!
Wir hatten ein grossartiges Wochenende in Amsterdam und würden das Boot jederzeit weiterempfehlen!
Marike was extremely accommodating with our requests and welcomed us to her lovely space and supplied us with all the necessary travel and directions information. The accommodation is comfortable, clean and very stylish. Marike remained available to us for any further questions or support.
We would highly recommend this location and have already planned a future trip to visit Amsterdam and Marike.
We really enjoyed our stay with Marike greatly. We have been to Amsterdam before so were keen to explore the close neighbourhood. It was a very different feel to the centre of Amsterdam but very lovely. The bikes are great for getting around. We got there early and were able to use their bikes because the “official” bikes were still with the previous occupants. The studio is spacious and tidy and very clean. We also liked the shampoo a lot. It was great to enjoy some wine on the deck of “our” boat in the evening. Can highly recommend it and might very well come back!
unser Aufenthalt war sehr gut - Gastgeberehepaar sehr nett,
Zimmer wie im Bild - alles gut.
Wir kommen wieder.
