Interaction with Guests
Teitei Farmstay is a great destination for people who are spiritually and ecologically oriented, open-minded, and who want to have authentic Fiji experiences. It is a good choice for families. The guest cottage has 3 bedrooms, Two of the rooms have sleeping lofts and room for other bedding below so smaller children can rest well either up in the loft or at ground level. The cabin has a shared toilet and outside shower, and the rooms have fans and reading lights. The guest house is about 20 meters from the main house.. Once here you can have as much solitude and peace, or socializing and adventuring, as you would like.
Our immediate neighbors are Indian farmers and very friendly - they will likely invite you in for tea. Nearby is a Fijian village, and the villagers are very friendly as well - we can easily arrange a visit to the village.
There is local transport. And we will help you get familiar with it for the fist few days. We have a spare mobile phone for guests in case there is a problem returning.
Other Things to Note
ABOUT OUR FOOD
At least half of our food is either from our farm or from the local market. Our farm is near organic – no herbicides or pesticides, some fertilizer is used. Local market foods are also near organic except for off-season crops, which we avoid. We have a lot of Indian and Fijian dishes, but are always experimenting, and can adjust menus within reason to cater to our guests. Everyone eats in the main house, and we try to all gather for dinner.
Three meals are provided daily: breakfast,, lunch, and dinner. Plus tea coffee or a snack are always available.
The current permanent population of the farm. Austin (grandfather), Kim (grandmother),
Akka & Monica, your hosts. Keith "Kiki" 3 years old. Tour guide / dessert approvals
Eminoni "Junior" Farm Manager / miscreant - rascal - scalawag..
We live in a safe area. No thefts in 6 years here.
If guests feel the need to smoke
please do so outdoors.
We do what we can, but toads and moths are a feature of the farm environment as well as geckos and ants, its the tropics.
The shower at the cottage is cold water,
Most times of the year the cool water is enjoyable. If you would like a hot bucket
bath there is an electric kettle at the guest cottage.
Sometimes nights are noisy with the dogs
barking or roosters thinking a the moonlight
is the sunrise. (usually fine)
If you'd like to do laundry we will help you.
While we do have reliable internet access. We ask guests not to stream video as we pay by how much data we use!!
We are a kid friendly zone– and hope
to see many young guests who can
be inspired by a joyous interaction
with the natural world here.
The guest house is for the guests,
and while we don't drink or serve alcohol
on the farm, it's fine for guest to enjoy it
on their own, we wont make it
an issue unless we have to..
Wonderful stay with Monica, Akka and Kiki. They were such welcoming amazing hosts and the food was out of this world!! We couldn't stop eating the farm is stunning and the neighbours very friendly We wished we could have stayed longer!! Thanks for a comfortable wonderful start to our holiday
This was the best place that we stayed in Fiji. Accommodations were really good and the food was excellent. If we go to Fiji again in the future we plan to come back here.
Monica, Akka and the whole family made us feel very welcome. We had a wonderful stay. The food is amazing, the conversation flows and then there are the discoveries to make around the farm. It is truely a wonderful experience to stay at Teitei farm.
Staying at Teitei was one of the most wonderful and memorable experiences of my life. Akka and his extended family are living spiritual, sustainable and community-oriented lives in the lush tropical inland of Fiji, and they generously shared this with me.
The room was clean and private, the food was delicious, and the experience on the farm was magical. It's not a beach holiday, and there are the insects and reptiles common to the tropics, but if you want a transformative experience then you should visit.
The Bowden Family are an interesting, welcoming, and idealistic group of people, commited to their sustainable agricultural methods and to improving the wider society around them. They gave us some unique experiences in our too short stay with them, from the wonderful beach trip with Austin, Kim and little Kee Kee ( Keith ), to the fascinating waterfall walk with Junior.
Monica and Akka cooked up some great meals with ingredients sourced from the farm, as fresh as can be and always enjoyable, some of the best we've had anywhere.
Our cosy room overlooked a lush verdant valley, with a birdsong all around, and surrounded by flowers.
Hopefully one day we'll return to Fiji for a longer stay.
What a wonderful, relaxing & peaceful haven to be privileged to be part of! I had a fantastic time with the family, very stimulating & I learnt many things about the local food & cooking techniques.
I have to say I loved meeting the local staff on site & was thoroughly entertained. Monica, Akka, Austin, Kim & Junior couldn't do enough for me, as I was suffering from very bad back pain, I was pampered !
The farm itself took me back to my childhood raised on a small farm.
The weather was cooler than the coast, which was great.
I would recommend staying here for at least 5 days.
I will be back, God willing, & spent a lot more time here.
I felt like part of the family & I thank god for bringing me to Teitei. It's been a godsend.
Plus the organic food is absolutely amazing, you can feel the difference.
Teitei is a great contrast from staying at a waterfront resort & well worth the trip.
Accommodation is very comfortable & each room has a fan, which is great !
Final words - just do it !!!
