Denmark Stage Stop isolated & quiet equestrian estate, 7-acres cradled between Mt Washington Valley & Bridgton Maine. Ideal location to "getaway" from COVID-19 & social distance! Insulate protect yourself & your family & enjoy nature & outdoors. Family friendly rental surrounded by nature. In this unprecedented time we offer a solution. Bring your 4 legged family member-whether it is a horse or a dog! Get away from the crowd and join us in Maine on our unique property. Perfect for remote work.

The space
Our Shawnee sleeps up to 6 people with 2 bedrooms and our living room couch converts to 2 twin beds. We constantly update and maintain all our accommodations to make it fresh for all of our guests. Enjoy a comfortable stay with a fully equipped kitchen and very large private bathroom. The Shawnee has dedicated parking and a private entrance for complete privacy during your stay. You may also bring up to 2 dogs, however, there are some breed restrictions due to insurance rules and regulations, so please let us know the breed of your dog(s) when making your inquiry. The Shawnee has all the bedding, towels, cookware, dishware, etc. you could possibly need during your stay.

No matter where you are from you are welcome here! No matter if you are from Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey or wherever, we welcome you to stay a few days, a week, a month, etc, whichever works for you and your family! With that being said Maine does have some additional restrictions depending on what state you are coming from. From those visiting from Massachusetts & Rhode Island the governor has stated you need a negative Covid 19 test within 72 hours of arrival in the state. Please visit "Keep Maine Healthy" to see what if any restrictions are in place from your home state.

We want our guests to know during this time where concern regarding Covid 19 are first and foremost on everyone's mind that we take your safety and health as important as we take our own. Bottom line is that if our guests are not safe that means we are not either. Neither myself nor my housekeeper wants to contract Covid 19 anymore than our guests do.

This is where my prior experience as an owner of a quarantine facility for horses for many years works to benefit us and our guests. I have many years of unique experience owning a licensed and approved quarantine facility working under the auspices of the USDA. Honestly I never thought I would ever need to fall back on this experience but here we are in a situation we never thought we would find ourselves in. Although my experience is with quarantining horses, bacteria, viruses etc., work the same in all species as far as making premises safe from pathogens. I quarantined the show horses coming into the United States from overseas to ascertain those horses were not bringing unexpected pathogens into the U.S. before being allowed out into the general population.

So this is what we are doing to protect everyone's safety.

We block off accommodations for 24 hours after each guest. We were doing this long before Airbnb or anyone else mentioned this was a recommended practice. This gives the pathogen the time for it to become less viable.

Our rates have increased to account for the days our accommodations remain unoccupied, the increased expense of quality cleaning products, the additional cleaning supplies, etc. You can most likely find cheaper accommodations but ask yourself how they clean and prepare premises correctly when their rates wouldn't cover the expenses when cleaning is done thoroughly and properly. You have to choose your battles and safety vs. cost. As soon as this crisis is truly over I will be the first one who lowers these rates meaning we may go back to how it was before but I don't see that as being likely anytime in the near future.

We use a 4 step cleaning procedure and only enter the premises ourselves after the 3 days have elapsed.
#1 – we use a surgical soap and water solution to clean all surfaces initially.
#2 – we then use an approved virucide to clean all surfaces. This virucide requires it be left in place for 5-10 minutes, which is followed by wiping down the surfaces.
#3 – we go through another cleaning process using a 99.9% alcohol solution. Note: 99.9% alcohol kills viruses after 30 seconds of contact time compared to bleach which requires 5 minutes of contact time.
#4 – we invested in a UV sanitizing device to insure we have caught all those bugs!!

Instead of 2-3 hour window for cleaning our cleaning process now takes 6-8 hours after each and every guest. Again I don't want to be infected with Covid anymore than you do and I can't afford to be or I am out of business longer than I already have been. Even prior to this our guests noted in our reviews at just how clean our accommodations are.

BE SURE ANY HOST YOU ARE RENTING FROM KNOWS WHAT IT MEANS TO TRULY DISINFECT THEIR RENTAL!!! Ask them how they are doing so. Ask them what products they are using - then ask me the same. I am in a unique position having owned, operated and managed a quarantine facility for many years. While it was for horses the measures to take are the same.

Other notes on cleaning processes.
Laundered items will follow a very strict protocol of being washed in the highest temperature possible using bleach to launder. This means our towels and sheets that we spent considerable money for may no longer look their best after many washings in bleach, but so be it. Please do not complain if you see bleach stains or when our colored items become not so colorful anymore, which is a small price to pay for safety. You can be sure they are clean.

All accommodations will be provided with ample soap and hand sanitizer. We ask that you rely on proper washing of your hands with soap and water as much as possible and only use the hand sanitizer when absolutely needed.

We have put Alexa to work for our guests so instead of touching each and every object, although they have been thoroughly cleaned and sanitized, just ask Alexa to turn on that light or turn off the TV, etc. Of course, you can always use the traditional was of turning things on/off but this is just an extra measure for those wishing to utilize Alexa.

We will not be interacting with any guests at any time unless something is vital, like something important needs repair. We keep everything in good working order so we hope this does not occur but we will address it, if need be. Our guests have self check-in so there is no need to formally check-in with us – just text us that you have arrived please. Also, if you could let us know when you have departed that would be very helpful.

It is easy to social distance yourself on a property with 7 acres of fields and pasture! We offer a unique property during this time of uncertainty due to COVID 19. The Denmark Stage Stop House makes "social distancing" easy with 7 acres to roam, play games, relax, let your kids have outdoor time and more importantly stay away from the crowds. You can even have Amazon and Walmart and others deliver your orders here, whether it is food staples or other products, minimizing your time you need to be out among others. The local grocery store allows you to order online and pick up your order in the parking lot, greatly lessening the impact of having to go grocery shopping.

Please note regarding Maine Lodging tax if you are looking to getaway for an extended time ,Maine law states, "Stays of 28 or more consecutive days are not subject to lodging tax if the rental is the guest’s primary residence or the guest is living away from his or her primary residence in connection with education or employment."

Best of all you will not be confined to enjoy only the 7 acres at the Denmark Stage Stop House but you can go out and about to hike, nature walks, enjoy the sites or even take a drive up to the summit of Mt. Washington in your own car. There is so much to do up here that does not require you to have close contact with anyone, keeping you and your family safe during your stay in very rural Denmark, Maine.

In addition, our water used for drinking, bathing, etc. comes direct from our own private wells and is safe to drink, so safe in fact that Poland Springs pumps water to be sold elsewhere just down the road from their wells. So one less thing to worry about – you will not run low on water as many people are stocking up on water in the stores making it difficult to find.

You may also bring your 4 legged best friend whether it is a dog or even a horse! We allow up to 2 dogs and/or 2 horses but additional fees outside of Airbnb are required. For dogs it is only $50.00 per stay, not per dog and not per night but you are required to read "House Rules" regarding guests traveling with dogs. This allows my housekeeper to put in the extra time needed to make the cottage ready for the next guest that may have pet allergies or sensitivities. For horses please contact us for more information. Sorry no cats due my own allergies.

You are on a 7-acre property so you have a lot of room to roam around outside. Plus you have a private yard, grill, outdoor seating, etc. You are also surrounded by areas to hike, swim (if determined safe to do so) or just take a relaxing walk as a solo traveler or with your family, which is so much better than being in a crowded city or even neighborhood.

We now have Alexa in all our accommodations for those who would like to have fun with Alexa - if not just unplug her or turn her off. She will do just about everything for you, including turn lights on/off, change the lighting colors, adjust your heat, tell you jokes and stories, play whatever music you like in stereo and so much more. We also have just added a selection of board games that you can play with Alexa either on your own or with the family, where Alexa enhances the game experience.
Games you may play with Alexa
Escape Room
St. Noire
When In Rome
Ticket To Ride
We also have a bunch of good old fashioned games as well, for fun with friend and family!!
Our visiting children have just loved having Alexa join them on their stay.

Where you’ll be

Denmark, Maine, United States

Denmark Maine is a very rural area and our property is no exception. We are only 5.4 mile away from Shawnee Peak Ski Area for all you summer and fall hiking and winter skiing. The Denmark Stage Stop House is only one mile outside of Bridgton Maine and 5 miles from grocery stores, etc. found in Bridgton Maine.

While Denmark Maine is a rural getaway, everything you need is only about 5 miles away in the typically quaint New England village of Bridgton Maine, where you will find groceries, gas stations, gift stores quaint New England churches and the best of all is Reny’s Department store that is referred to as “Maine adventure”. The village of Bridgton Maine has not changed all that much since I began coming up here in the 1970’s, which is the charm of Bridgton.

We are also only 6 miles from the Bridgton Hospital and have learned over the years that many guests stay here while visiting friends and family that have had to endure a hospital stay. Being so close to the hospital allows both convenience and comfort in being so close by.

We are in the heart of Maine's Lake Region, surrounded by mountains, lakes, which makes us home to many prestigious summer camps.

Kids and families have more fun at Shawnee Peak with skiing all day and into the night. Shawnee Peak also offers their "Peak-A-Boo Daycare so parents can ski off knowing their kids are learning safely while in great care. The "Peak-A-Boo Daycare is licensed by the State of Maine Department of Health and Human Services. You can safely drop off your child at 8:30 and go off skiing until 5:00 PM.

You and your children can take ski lessons with Shawnee Peak's Professional Ski Instructors whether beginner or advanced. Ski more and stand in line a lot less as Shawnee Peak is not overcrowded as so many New England ski resorts are and best of all Shawnee Peak is one of the most affordable ski areas in New England.

Shawnee Peak is home to the MOST night skiing in New England with 5 lifts servicing 19 trails and 2 terrain parks. Monday Night Madness offers the best value skiing we offer with 5.5 hours of skiing for less than $20! A Night Skiing pass offers unlimited night skiing and riding. You can take a break in Blizzards Pub for a meal or cocktails any time day or night or after your night skiing or return to your accommodations at The Denmark Stage Stop House to relax with friends and family.

I am originally from Massachusetts. I have always loved Maine, no matter what season. We always had a vacation home in Bridgton Maine and when I moved back from Florida, I choose to find a home in Maine for myself, my horses and my dogs. I grew up skiing at Shawnee Peak which used to be called Pleasant Mountain. The best part I am only 2.5 hours from Boston, MA when I need a little bit of city life. I found a home that was over 200+ years with pastures and a barn. After 10 years of remodeling, which included actually moving the house back further into the fields, I think I am almost done. We have blended old and new and I am quite pleased with the end result. The Bungalow Cottage stands where the original part of my home used to be located until 2010. We opened our house up to guests in 2014 and have loved every second of it. Never dreamed we would get so busy so fast. From June last year till about the first week of November we are just about solidly booked and loved every second of it, meeting so many great people from the all over the world. As a professional Home Energy Auditor since 2004, making this old and new home energy efficient was our first priority and we definitely succeeded there. I am also a licensed Real Estate Associate Broker so if you are here on a house hunting journey - let's talk real estate! Being an animal owner and lover "forever" it was important to me that guests had a place to bring their dog and their best friend and now our guests may bring their horse along as well. We are very pet friendly (dogs and horses only). Sorry no cats due to allergies - mine and our guests. We have many guests that stay with us in the past years while on a home buying journey in Maine's Lakes Region, so to that end I have activated my Associate Broker real estate license in Maine after having held an active real estate license in Massachusetts since 2004. If you are actively seeking to purchase a home, whether it is a vacation property, investment property, retirement home or your forever home, let's talk real estate while you are here! Not only can you rest your head at The Denmark Stage Stop House at the end of a day of house hunting, but I would be happy to assist you in finding that fits your needs and dreams.
