Interaction with Guests
We like to be available to greet our guests, but on very night late arrivals that may not be possible. We are available at anytime during our guests stay for questions, issues or anything at all - even to find the best restaurant around - all you have to do is ask. We are generally on site but if not I am only a phone call or text away. If you want absolute privacy that's OK too.
We offer daily housekeeping upon request - no extra charge, but please let us know as some guests do not like the intrusion in to their space and we respect that. Please communicate this when making your reservation.
If you wish to have daily housekeeping we can provide that too on request - all you have to do is let us know.
We are trying very hard NOT to add a cleaning fee onto our price, keeping our units affordable for everyone. 99% of our guests leave the cottage in excellent condition. To this end, please pick up after yourselves, clean up any excessive dog hair, rinse your dishes and we will pick them up to run them through our dishwasher, place vinyl shower curtains inside the tub to prevent excess water from getting outside the tub area to prevent slipping accidents and damage to our property. As I said 99% do all this without being asked. Help us to keep our costs affordable for our guests.
On that note, while we do not have a cleaning fee, we do have a housekeeper Heidi who makes sure everything is just so. So if you feel she has done a good job and if you are feeling kind and generous, when leaving please consider a gratuity for Heidi. Heidi is also more than likely the person who will be serving you your ice cream treats as well.

This rule is VERY IMPORTANT, while we want everyone to enjoy our horses (from a distance), there is absolutely no contact with the horses. This is mainly due to our insurance restrictions, but also as beautiful as horses are they are large animals and they do bite and kick - it's all part of being a horse. So please realize we are not being mean, just safety conscious.
Please note that we want everyone to fun however this is not a "party" house and has to be respected as such. While we have no problems with alcohol consumption, overly intoxicated individuals will not be tolerated and asked to leave the premises. Keep in mind that we have other guests on the property and residents.
No illegal drug use of any sort will be permitted on or in the premises.
No more than four (4) guests permitted to stay in our Bungalow Cottage. No more than six (6) individuals permitted to stay in our Shawnee Suite.
No burning of candles - EVER.
No open fires other than the gas grilles we provide.
We are one of very view locations that allow our guests to bring their dogs and hope to continue this, but it is dependent on our guests being considerate and following the rules as it pertains to dogs.
NO DOGS OFF LEASH EVER. We have horses and this is mostly for the safety of your pet, but we also do not want our horses chased. We appreciate your understanding.
Due to our insurance restrictions we can not take any Pit Bulls or Pit Bull mixes nor any dog with viscous or aggressive tendencies.
Dogs may not be left unattended in cottages, suites or rooms. They may be crated when you leave as long as they are not excessive barkers.
NO DOGS ALLOWED ON ANY OF OUR FURNITURE - PLEASE.
Please clean up excessive dog hair on floor and furniture daily.
We require a minimum of two nights on weekends during our busy summer and winter ski season.
Our stay at the cottage was fantastic! Deborah welcomed us and our dog with a comfortable place to stay, a range of unexpected amenities (fruit, chilled water, snacks, breakfast items), and a beautiful setting. The cottage was close to mountains, lakes, and the city (Portland is only 1 hour away)! The best treat was the ice cream from the ice cream shop! Deborah went out of her way to ensure that we had everything that we needed during our stay.
Un accueil rural et très sympa, une petite maison simple mais fonctionnelle avec tout le confort pour (website hidden) a été une très belle expérience.
My husband and I spent a night at this sweet little cottage en route to our holiday destination. It's hands-down one of the best-supplied rentals we've ever been in, right down to the farm-fresh eggs. Loved the friendly reception, loved the free ice cream, loved the side garden. It's located right on the road, and although traffic isn't heavy and stops overnight, it starts pretty early. This wasn't a problem for us, but something to consider if you're a very light sleeper and trying to sleep late. We would definitely stay here again.
Deb was a fantastic host and came to greet us late Friday night after we were delayed by traffic. She opened up the ice cream stand for us right then and there for a late night treat.
The cottage itself was the perfect size and had all the modern amenities like WiFi, Netflix, and even a heated bathroom seat! Deb had coffee, breakfast treats, snacks, and fresh towels all waiting for us. We hardly had to bring anything of our own and were right at home.
Being dog friendly is a huge plus and Deb was more than gracious to let us have our lab Baxter around. She even gave him a vanilla doggie sundae with crushed up Milkbones, which he loved!
The location is also real close to Pleasant Mountain where we were able to enjoy a peaceful hike in nature. We will definitely be visiting again for a classic Maine escape. Thanks Deb!!
My husband and I stayed at the Denmark Stage Stop Bungalow Cottage for the weekend to celebrate our four-year anniversary. We were very excited to be able to get away with our two pups, and found this gem in the nick of time! We were very pleased with our decision to stay there. Deborah was a sweetheart and thought of everything! The bungalow cottage was meticulously clean, which is saying a lot, especially since it's pet-friendly. Deborah gave us a little tour of the cottage and showed us how everything worked, the snacks she provided, and was very kind and generous. The heated blankets, heated toilet, heat lamp in the bathroom, and extra linens and blankets were greatly appreciated. We made use of the grill on our last day there, and enjoyed the private backyard. The ice cream was great, and I'm sure there are other things I'm missing. I would definitely recommend this cottage to my friends and family. The only thing I can think of is that I wouldn't recommend this cottage for more than two people (a couple), but only for my own privacy preferences, as this is a studio-style cottage, so there's no private bedroom. However, if privacy isn't an issue, there is another bed available. Deborah was a lovely hostess and we wish her all the best!
Hi Carla, so glad you enjoyed yourself. Yes it is a studio style cottage with a very large private bath. We have many couples with children that return to the cottage again and again. They take advantage of the to couch that converts to two twin beds. Like you said that is your own privacy preference. If you return in the future check out our 2 bedroom Shawnee Suite with full kitchen and again a very large private bath. Our guests with children also love the large private yard and deck. We also have many friends that travel together that are quite comfortable in this cottage - at least I am assuming they are, since so many make return visits again and again. They also love the affordability of the cottage since understandably the 2 bedroom with full kitchen is a little more.
Loved having you and your dogs.
Deborah's cottage was a fantastic respite from the city. She has her own little town on the property, from ice cream to bikes to horses. Great experience.
The cottage was just as described. Very comfortable and close to Bridgeton. Deb was a gracious host and available. We loved the snacks and heated seat! I would recommend this to anyone looking to enjoy the hiking, skiing, etc. of the area. Thank you Deb for a most restful weekend.

About the Host, Dl
I am originally from Massachusetts. I have always loved Maine, no matter what season. We always had a vacation home in Bridgton Maine and when I moved back from Florida, I choose to find a home in Maine for myself, my horses and my dogs. I grew up skiing at Shawnee Peak which used to be called Pleasant Mountain. The best part I am only 2.5 hours from Boston, MA when I need a little bit of city life.
I found a home that was over 200+ years with pastures and a barn. After 10 years of remodeling, which included actually moving the house back further into the fields, I think I am almost done. We have blended old and new and I am quite pleased with the end result.
The Bungalow Cottage stands where the original part of my home used to be located until 2010.
We opened our house up to guests just about one year ago and have loved every second of it. Never dreamed we would get so busy so fast. From June last year till about the first week of November we were just about solidly booked and loved every second of it, meeting so many great people from the USA, Canada and Europe.
This is our first true winter being open full time to guests and we are hoping for a great winter ski and snowboard season.
As a professional Home Energy Auditor since 2004, making this old and new home energy efficient was our first priority and we definitely succeeded there. If any of you need a Home Energy Audit in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and of course Maine look me up under Energy Audit Me (energyauditme).
Being an animal owner and lover "forever" it was important to me that guests had a place to bring their dog and their best friend. We are very pet friendly (dogs only).
