Great place to stay! Quiet and relaxing, breakfast on the balcony is a great way to start the day.
Also, the internet is quite fast for Ubud, which is a definite plus!
Lovely stay in clean private room with en suite bath in family compound. Staff was very attentive. Breakfast on terrace always delicious and served with a smile. The pool is quite nice, and the location—down a quiet alley off a central street—can't be beat. Plus a great value!
Staying here has been fantastic, and very accommodating!
I only make a reservation for 2 days but I ended up staying for 4. Its very central to any experience you might want to have in Ubud, the pool is lovely and the rooms are comfortable. The hosts of sayong house were very helpful in helping me book further travel and arrange day trip, as well as being very flexible in letting me rent their scooter. All said, sayong house is very easy going - a great place to relax or kick off the next part of your adventure.
I will get one complaint out of the way and then the rest of the review will be positive. I had read from previous reviews that there might be construction going on, which would be noisy. I made an inquiry, and the booking agent confirmed that the construction was finished. It was not! and in fact they start tap-tapping at 7 am which was super annoying. Fortunately, I had earplugs.
Now the positive review:
This is actually a lovely hidden gem at the end of a long alley, with a large family temple in the middle of a courtyard and a number of different rooms on two floors all around. The garden and little brook, with fish and nice statues, was really a respite in the middle of crazy Ubud. The room itself was immaculate, simply but nicely furnished, good AC and nice shower. I didn't see the hosts much but I did eat the free breakfast one day and it was good, pretty standard fare. The location is also a selling point - it's super convenient to shopping and temples and sightseeing. There is also a pool but I didn't use it. So, overall, the room and the value was good for the price, and it was a high quality place. I was just annoyed that they didn't tell me the truth at first. My visit was in October and it looked only about half done renovations, so you should assume it'll be that way another month I think.
Overall it was an OK experience. They were nice and acted quick when I asked for help. The negative things were that I had to go ask for toilet paper since the cleaner didn't refill mine. There wasn't even any toilet paper the day I came. There were also some construction going on right outside the room. If you're sensitive to loud noises in the morning, this isn't for you. If not, I could recommend you to stay here!
Unfortunately we could sleep in the original booked accommodation. A fitting alternative was provided.
