CASA DAKINI is an ideally located, high-quality, comfortable home, built in late 2005 - fully equipped and with gorgeous views of the Caribbean and surrounding rainforest - just a short 300 yard walk downhill to the fabulous beaches of Punta Uva and the Caribe Sur.
The house is situated 180 feet above beach level, with a rare ocean-view that consequently enjoys refreshing and mostly bug-free breezes combined with the gentle sound of the ocean. Innovatively designed and built for the climate and coastal rainforest environment, the house is 850 square feet, solidly built yet light and airy, and warmly decorated with Spanish tile and French stucco.
Less than 700 meters away are several very good restaurants, cafes and grocery stores, and for dancing the night away or shopping in the markets, seven kilometers away is the engaging little town of Puerto Viejo - and in the other direction 5 kilometers down at the end of the road, the colorful fishing village of Manzanillo where you can hire a boat to explore the fabulous Gandoca Manzanillo Preserve.
Surrounded by near-virgin rainforest, the beaches are a 3-4 minute walk downhill - or drive and park right next to the water at one of several very quiet spots where the sea is safe for swimming and snorkeling in the reefs just offshore. Monkeys, sloths, toucans and parrots are all regular visitors, and you will wake up each morning to the sounds of rainforest wildlife in all its glory!
Guests have access to the whole property - nearly an acre of lush, landscaped gardens and fruit trees.
Interaction with Guests
Our caretakers live in the second house on the property and will be happy to assist with any needs, issues, questions or directions to local attractions etc.
Punta Uva is in the sweet spot of the Caribe Sur...close enough to the town and it's services and markets, but far enough away to enjoy the quiet, laid-back local lifestyle, which has been largely undisturbed since the area began to be visited 30 years ago, when there were no roads or electricity!
There are public buses, taxis and bicycle rentals available, but renting your own set of wheels is infinitely more rewarding...and relaxing!
Other Things to Note
We are new to Air B&B so until we have earned new reviews here, please visit us at the other big vacation rental site # 70785 (they won't let us put the name here!) and browse through the comments of our many very satisfied guests - we are proud to be the highest starred vacation home in the area, helping visitors have incredible experiences in the Caribe Sur since 2006.
Just have a great time, and tell your friends!

Simply the best. Geoff and Karen's home is truly paradise. The view of the ocean is magnificent and the sound of the ocean at night makes is peaceful to fall asleep. (The breeze makes the house so pleasant as well).
The howler monkeys were a great way to receive a wake up call. Only loud enough to say it's a new day - wake up and enjoy it!!
Rosa, the property manager is terrific and shared her knowledge of the area and some tasty fruit. You have a piece of paradise there in Punta Uva and we will be back.... Thank you for sharing your home with us. You helped make our vacation the best!!! Gary and Sherry
Arriving to Puerto Viejo is an interesting experience. There are no stoplights or street signs, and no addresses. We still found the place really easily and Rosa (the caretaker) was there to meet us when we arrived. The house is very beautiful. It is designed to have a nice flow of air all the time and even without AC it is really cool. We went with 4 people which was a little tight. The other two beds are in the living room which makes for awkward sleeping arrangements if someone wants to leave early or come in late. We worked it out fine though. The best part about the whole house is sitting on the porch watching the wildlife. There was a large flock of toucans that flew by every morning, and we had a nice monkey alarm clock that woke us up. In the rainy season the bugs are out in full force so there was a lot of noise from them as well. You get the feeling that you are living in the middle of the jungle. This is not something you have living closer to Puerto Viejo. We rented a car and we probably could have survived without it. Costa rica is not flat and most streets are on hills. The house was off the main road up a serious hill but it wasn't a long one. We regularly saw people walking up the hill daily. However, with suitcases it might be hard.
Punta uva and Puerto Viejo are beautiful. There is a lot of natural beauty in the area which drew us there in the first place. There are very few locals and after being there a few days people already recognized us.
It's a great place to stay!
Wonderful view, comforts of home in the middle of a wild alive jungle. The sounds were amazing. Thanks Geoff!!
Spent 5 terrific nights in April at Geoff's house with my husband and teenage son. the house and view are just as they look in the pictures. The bed was really comfortable (not so much the single beds in the living room), kitchen had everything you need, and having two full bathrooms was great. The porch (ah, the porch!) was everything you want a tropical ocean view porch to be. Great view, comfy chairs, relaxing hammock. We spent one cloudy already sun-burned day just hanging out on the porch. Geoff was responsive and flexible (we asked to go a day early on short notice, and he was very relaxed about it) and his on-site managers helpful. We loved the sound of the howler monkeys in the mornings, and saw them behind the house one day. This house will definitely be on our list for our next trip to Costa Rica!
Thanks Karin - so glad you enjoyed the place and the neighborhood, sounds like you made the most of it! Regarding the extra beds in living room - they are new foam beds, and they may be a bit firmer than you're used to, but they have to double as sofas. We can always soften them up a bit by adding extra quilted mattress covers underneath the sheets, upon request.
