MORE ABOUT THE LOCATION:
With it's many beautiful parks, beaches, and open spaces, the coastal neighborhood known as 'The Mesa' is perfect for visitors that enjoys being close to the beach, but off the beaten path. Perfect for walking or cycling, the rental is less than a ten minute stroll (or 3 minute drive) to beach access, and the west end of Shoreline Park (a beautiful 1/2 mile long coastal park which overlooks Leadbetter Beach and the Santa Barbara Harbor). The rental is located 1.5 miles from the Harbor (the beginning point for the mile long stretch of beach hotels and motels), and 2.5 miles from the S.B Wharf (located at the bottom of State Street). State Street is the center of town and is a quick 3 mile drive by car. From the rental it is an easy 1/4 mile walk to the Mesa Shopping Center where you will find all the shopping you need to sustain a 'Mesa lifestyle'. There is a great selection of restaurants - Mexican, Spanish, Thai, Chinese, Japanese, American, pizza places, fast food and more. There is a very nice gourmet/whole food market/deli in the center, and also a mid-size grocery store. The Mesa's popular 'Good Cup' coffee house is only three blocks away. Bus stops with routes going downtown and towards the harbor are also just three blocks away.
* In addition to it's beautiful and convenient location, the Mesa is also loved for it's mild temperatures (City weather records show that the Mesa's summer temperatures are 10 to 12 degrees cooler than downtown, and 10 to 12 degrees warmer in the winter).
MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST:
I was born and raised in SB, and have called Santa Barbara home for most of my life (50+ years). I have lived on the Mesa for the past nine years and love all the things it has to offer. I've been lucky enough to do a lot of traveling in the past, and know how nice it is to stay somewhere that feels like a home away from home. I think you will find that this rental is just that kind of a place. When I host guests I will always be based in the Santa Barbara area should anything require attention, while affording you all the privacy you desire.

I had an amazing stay. The apartment has everything you could need and is perfectly situated near the ocean. Paula is the perfect host and goes above and beyond. Her communication is excellent, and every amenity is provided. Will definitely be coming back again and again!! Thank you Paula.
Paula was there to greet me and show me the apartment. Everything was set out..snacks, coffee, detailed information on the area, etc. Located in a quiet residential area, but close to everything. This place is the gold standard for cleanliness and hospitality.
Thanks SO MUCH for all the kind words, and see you again next year!
What Thomas loved about your listing:
Paula is a great host....she wins the prize! Her apartment is totally separate in the house, nice kitchen, bedroom, private sitting areas outside, convenient to the beach only a couple of blocks. Only five minute drive to center of Santa Barbara, or public transport at the corner. Paula has detailed maps and suggestions of hikes and restaurants. This is easily one of the best Air BnBs I have stayed in. Was there a week in Feb, 2015. Will go back again for sure.
What Thomas thought you could improve about the experience:
She wins in all (email hidden)n't think of anything she missed.
My wife and I lived in SB for 6 years, and our plan to stay with close friends fell through at the last minute b/c they had a family emergency. We are a young couple and very familiar with SB, so when we were browsing through airbnb listings, we already had in mind a short list of "best areas" where we wanted to stay. As incredible luck would have it, we found Paula's place on the Mesa. It turned out to be even more amazing than it looked, and it looked amazing. This is a Santa Barbara home - bougainvillea pots outside, palm trees, beachy feel, not to mention proximity to the beaches. Paula's rental is wonderful. There was a nice little welcome note by the entrance reassuring us we had the right place. As soon as I walked in, one of the first things that caught my attention was how nice and fresh the smell of the air was. The place is super clean, and there's lots of natural light. There is more than enough space for two people - the kitchen and bathroom are especially spacious. Paula left a longer welcome note inside as well as clear and easy to follow instructions regarding the rental, and if you're new to SB, she has a nice booklet of things to see, do, and eat that she put together. One of the things I liked most is that her rental feels like a home. Everything is nicely decorated (in the words of my wife, it's like a "beach cottage getaway") and it's very welcoming. The apartment had everything we needed. In addition to a nice selection of teas and coffee, Paula provided little snacks like yogurt and granola bars. There was even half and half in the fridge for the coffee! We used the beach chairs and towels for a trip to the park. What's also really nice is that the rental is near a number of excellent restaurants (when we lived in SB, we were eating out on the Mesa all the time) and it's near one of the fancier grocery stores in SB called Lazy Acres. The rental is only a few minutes drive to downtown to boot. In terms of negatives, I don't have much to say because there was nothing that could've been better! Thanks Paula!
This was by far the BEST airbnb experience we have ever had. The accommodations were marvelous and Paula really made us feel at home. She was available for any questions we had about the area and her dog Riley is just too sweet. This part of Santa Barbara is IDEAL for sightseeing, beach combing, and wine tasting. We will definitely be back and might make this an annual stop on our vacation list. I would HIGHLY recommend staying here if you are ever in SB.
I stayed here for 2 weeks while visiting my son and daughter-in-law in Santa Barbara to help care for my new grandchild. This was the perfect place for me to stay, a very clean, very quiet and private sanctuary, with all amenities. Since I have some challenges in walking, I appreciated that there were only a few low steps going in and out, and that the shower was easy to get in and out of. It was nice to have a small refrigerator, and a microwave, and electric teapot. Paula thought of everything a guest might need. She was a wonderful host, did not intrude but was very available. I would highly recommend this rental, and would love to stay here again on return trips to Santa Barbara.
Paula truly is an amazing host and really goes above and beyond to ensure her guests leave 100% satisfied. I feel in love with her location based on the pictures she provides on her profile but was truly sold when I saw it in person. The pictures are 100% accurate. The location of the neighborhood is very quiet, safe, conveniently close to everything and has an amazing view of the ocean.
Upon are arrival Paula left us a welcome note and local recommendations for restaurants, wineries and fun activities to do in Santa Barbara. This was my first visit to Santa Barbara so I greatly appreciated her recommendations. Paula literally supplied us with everything you can think of: coffee machine, cups, plates, utensils, iron, dvd player, movies, cleaning products, extra blankets, towels, soap, hair products and even extra tooth brushes. The suite she provides is perfect for a party of two and is very clean/well maintained.
I have already planned to go back to Santa Barbara in the near future and will definitely request to stay at Paula's suite once again.
Thank you Paula for being a GREAT host!
This is a lovely place to stay in the Mesa. The apartment was spacious, spotless, very private, quiet, and close to the beach and Mesa restaurants. Paula was a wonderful host. We appreciated the snacks and drinks she left for us and all the info about the area. We would strongly recommend staying here.

In my free time when I am not gardening or out enjoying the nearby beaches and parks with friends and dogs, I'm usually busy training and competing in the crazy fun sport of dog agility.
