I reserved Gayle’s place through AirBnB, then later realized our flight didn’t leave until 10pm. Checkout is 10am and we’d be forced to spend 12hours schlepping our bags around until our flight. I sent Gayle a note asking if the unit was, by any chance, available one more night and could we reserve it? Within minutes she responded and we had our extra night. I really appreciate her quick accommodation!
The check-in procedure and map seemed confusing at first, but it really wasn't difficult at all. The unit is fine, it feels like a hotel room in a hotel complex. It's clean but could use a little love. The doors "stick" and the kitchen/bathroom is odd, but there are towels, tissues, kitchen utensils, etc. - pretty much anything you’d need. The bed is fine, clean sheets but not super comfy. The location is fantastic!! It’s right downtown Kona, next door to beaches, restaurants, shops and very close to the market. We parked our car and walked everywhere. There is a security gate for the parking lot and another locked gate for the footpath - but neither of them are working so there's merely an illusion of safety. However, we never felt “unsafe.” There is a balcony looking straight onto the ocean (it’s the cover photo) and the view is just lovely. Great for watching the sunset with a bottle of wine before getting dinner close by.
We didn’t feel welcomed like we usually do with AirBnb stays. There are rules posted throughout the unit, threatening extra charges should we neglect to remove trash, clean dishes, etc. We felt like we were intruding.
Ultimately, there are plusses and minuses. If you’re looking for the AirBnb home-stay, this isn’t it. If what you want is a great location, clean facilities and convenience for a couple of days, I would definitely recommend it for that!
