Cozy apartment in historic winery house in Montpeyroux, Languedoc-Roussillion. Great nature, 40 km from Montpellier and from the sea. Bedroom with double bed and good new mattresses. Kitchen, living room with fireplace and sofa bed.
A modern and charming enclosed flat, situated in the walk-in vault of a former historic wine farm house. The apartment has two separate entrances. It is on the ground floor, but has two internal stages and forms the base of our house. It is quietly situated at the edge of a nature reserve in the middle of the famous wine region of Montpeyroux with its 22 Domaines (and really close to a quite part of the Way of St. James / Santiago de Compostella). The vineyards and the nature reserve start right on the doorstep and are inviting guests to take a walk or use their cycles. If you prefere to swim or go on a rafting tour, the beautiful river Herault (Grand Site de France) is just a few minutes away (by car / bike). The great and inviting lake Lac de Salagou isn’t far either. If you are drawn to the sea, either to get into the water or to discover the pitoresque fishing villages, you can reach it in approximately half an hour (40 km, 25 miles). The same applies for the beautiful major cities in the area: Montpellier, Beziers and Sète.
Our house is not a typical vacation home. For our guests we have set up a modern residential with two separate entrances with quiet outdoor seating respectively, so you can enjoy both the morning and the evening sun. (Or avoid it of course, if you’re looking for some cooling shadow.)
Interaction with Guests
We’re always looking forward to meet new guests and are happy to give you tips for trips, cultural events, markets, restaurants, etc. – if you wish so. When at home, we live in the upper part of the house and our terrace wit its splendid view. (of course with a separate entrance), so If you should have any questiony or problems, we’ll do our best to answer and help where we can, but you can always keep to yourself, unbothered by us.
Le Barry is a part of the small town Montpeyroux. The market square in the city center is about 400 meters away. Here you will find everything for your daily needs: bakers, butchers, food, news, post office, Mairie, Cave, bar, cafe, restaurant and also a doctor. On Thursdays there is a small weekly market.
The center of Le Barry is the church of Saint Martin du Barry. Services do not take place here anymore, but there’s exhibitions, concerts and festivals. Above from Le Barry lay the castle ruins of Castellas. In the vault of our house there’s still a historic oven, where the inhabitants of Le Barry (formerly the servants of the castle) theoretically still have the legal right to bake their bread (but no one has made use of that right, at least since we live here).
There are daily bus connections to Montpellier (40 km) to the Place de la Comedie, and St. Roque TGV station. A shuttle bus takes you to Montpellier airport. Ryanair also flies to airport Bezier / Agde (40 km). However, we recommend a private car / rental car (or motorcycles, bicycles, etc.) to discover the beautiful surroundings. the international airport of marseille you can reach within one a half hour.

We have fulfilled our dream at the end of our freelance work as designers and moved from Cologne to southern France. We live in a wonderful house in which we have set up a separate, charming apartment, which we are happy to rent out to interesting and interested people from all over the world. We look forward to meeting nice people who share our sympathy for the French way of life, culture and landscape or are curious about it.
