  • The octagon was an incredible experience for our honeymoon. We were welcomed as such, and enjoyed our stay from the 1st second there!
The view is amazing, the scents are everywhere, we felt as in paradize.
The body treatments were amazingly relaxing, a bit extensive but worth it!
The only "drawback" is the relative remoteness (count 15min to get to the 1st restaurant/shop), but it is what you get from having such a nice view!
We will definitely come back again if we have the occasion!

  • There isn't much left to say about this gorgeous place besides the fact it was the most perfect place to get engaged.

  • Staying at the Octagon Studio at Aroma Maui is like something out of a dream. You're up at 3,000 feet elevation with bicoastal views of the greater part of the island. The studio has stunning views and is small, but romantic, clean, well appointed and equipped with everything you'll need for your stay. We enjoyed breakfasts out on the private deck, the indoor/outdoor shower, and most of all the amazing aromatic plants that cover the grounds of this special place. The hot tub and pool are beautiful. One of the highlights of our stay here was taking the aromatherapy distillation course one morning, which is complimentary for guests. Tom, the owner and manager of the property was captivating and knowledgeable about the distillation process, and provided a fun hands on experience that is an excellent introduction to aromatherapy. We highly recommend taking advantage of this little perk, even if you're not interested in distilling yourself, it's educational and just a fun thing to do! Our only qualm with the Octagon studio is that as wonderfully secluded as this beautiful property is, it's a bit of a cruise to get to maui beaches, hikes, and sights. It's a minimum of 10 minutes driving up a windy road from the closest town (Makawao), then 15 minutes minimum from Makawao to get anywhere else. That said, you are really close to one cool little hike just up Olinda road, and it's a good starting point to Haleakala since you're already in upcountry. There are some great restaurants, shops, and farms to explore in upcountry that most tourists probably miss while holed up in their hotel rooms on the west shore. Worth staying here? Yes! definitely- for a few relaxing days in upcountry- just consider your itinerary and how much time you want to be spend in the car. Mahalo! We loved it here!

  • Aroma's Octogon Studio was an unbelievable experience. The entire estate reflect a gorgeous design aesthetic, and everything in the studio was both tasteful and intelligently thought-out, not to mention perfectly clean. Incredible views and, wow, that shower... The grounds of the institute are immaculate and lush, and the pool/hot tub exactly as advertised. Make sure you get a spa treatment while you're there -- I had a fabulous massage.

(Also, for anyone concerned, that whole "aromatherapy study" is super easy and fun -- totally not a big deal.)

  • The Octagon studio is located down a gravel stairway in the midst of the Aroma Maui property with a pretty view of their plants and gardens and a 90 degree view of the Maui central valley. It is very quiet, cool due to the higher elevation and relaxing. The bed is some type of Tempurpedic and makes for a really great nights sleep. There is a well stocked tiny kitchenette which is convenient for making breakfast. For those who worry about "critters" being at 3000 ft with a setting in the forest - don't be. Very clean and no bugs. The one word of caution I would offer is that for those travelers who like a great shower, the Octagon falls short. It works - but is a bit finicky, and water flow is not the highlight.
The Aroma Maui property is located off of a wiggly road 3.6 miles (10 minutes) up the hill from the quaint and quirky town of Makawao. One stop light, and one shopping street (Baldwin avenue). You can find a variety of restaurants, woman's clothing, jewelry, small general store, etc. Once in Makawao, you are only 15 minutes from Pai'a (and Mama's Fish House) on the north coast, which is a very interesting town as well. You are also very close to the Hailimalli General Store - another top restaurant on the island.
During our visit, we primarily used the Octagon house as a base of operations for going to Haleakala (which is very close compared to staying elsewhere), driving through the upcountry, going to Po-okipa Beach Park, etc. Late in our visit we participated in an essential oils distillation demonstration and class. We had not been introduced to essential oils before, and found the class interesting.
    Enjoy your visit.

  • One night is not enough to enjoy all that this property has to offer, but we did our best! Tom and his staff are genuine and take great care to maintain the excellence of the Aromatherapy Foundation of Maui. A relaxing night at the perfectly appointed Octagon, diffuser vaporizing vetiver, wandering the garden paths, smell of fresh herbs and flowers, a sunset dip in the pool & hot tub, watching the clouds roll in over the mountains, dinner in Makawao town, peaceful rainy night, restful sleep, meditation with aromatherapy, incredible massage experience at onsite spa. A MUST EXPERIENCE!

  • We had a great honeymoon in Maui. The studio was perfect for what we needed and the setting really picturesque. 15 minutes from the beach and the fun town of Paia. Great hosts too!
