We have a beautiful 3 bedroom chalet bungalow, which is 2 miles from the centre of Winchester. The house has 1 double en suite, 1 double bed room, 1 twin bed room, a huge kitchen dining area (kitchen fully equipped with all mod cons) with sliding doors to lovely garden, large lounge with conservatory leading onto garden, and off street parking for 2 cars.
We are well situated to visit Salisbury, the only city int he county and home to one of the finest medieval cathedrals in Britain! We are also near Stonehenge (approximately a 45 minute drive). Stonehenge is of the most famous sites in the world, and is a stunning prehistoric monument which could date back as far as 3000BC!
We are also just a short drive to The New Forest. There is something there for all the family; award winning gardens, museums, leisure and wildlife parks and farm plus much, much more. The New Forest is the perfect place to walk and cycle, with miles and miles of traffic free off-road tracks leading you right into the heart of the forest with few hills to worry about!
The house and the local area are stunning, and you will have a fantastic stay!
We had a relaxing week with lovely weather which meant we could enjoy the beautiful garden. Being able to watch the sunset each evening was a bonus. Our grandchild enjoyed being able to move between the various living spaces and she had a great time. The Sainsburys nearby meant we could shop and cook to our hearts' content. The house is ideally located for day trips to Winchester, the New Forest and so on. A couple of less positive comments: there is no door to the bedroom in the loft extension-just a curtain at the top of the stairs; the ensuite has no door and the sloping ceiling rules out a proper shower. We feel a photograph of this should be on the website. On reflection we feel the week was a bit pricey, as we'd had a flat near Nice for a similar family gathering last year for a lot less.
Dear James, thank you for your review & kind positive remarks. I replied to your questions about the bathroom facilities, saying that the en- suite only had a bath & not a separate shower & that the downstairs bathroom had bath & separate shower.
Sorry I didn't mention the lack of doors. It's something we just except & didn't realise it would be a problem to other people. We were not allowed to have a door to the bedroom as it would have opened onto the stairs.
The cost of the booking as far as airbnb say was £910 not £1000.
I think you would find it difficult in Winchester, to find a similar house with large garden any cheaper.
I hope the positives weighed the negatives.
Our family of four stayed in Joy's house for a few days mid August.
We arrived very late on a flight from Toronto, and were more than happy to find a welcoming bottle of wine, fresh bread, cheese and fruit awaiting us! While Joy's house is not in downtown Winchester it was a quick drive there, which we did everyday as we were visiting friends who lived closer to the centre. As we had two older daughters with us, we enjoyed the spaciousness of Joy's house. Lots of lounging areas. We did not actually meet Joy as she was called out of town but she made sure that she phoned me and gave me instructions for getting the key etc. Though we didn't really cook meals other than breakfast at the house, the kitchen is certainly well enough equipped to do so. There is a nice dining room table that looks out onto the garden. There are no negatives (other than trying to find our way around a few traffic circles to get there). Highly recommended, especially if you have a family.
