A private suite in the basement of our home.
The space is set up for sleeping, lounging, and simple meal prep. There is a kitchenette with a bar frig, freezer, microwave, toaster oven, kettle, crockpot and coffee maker. Most of our guests stay for a month or more and are happy with these amenities.
•super-comfortable double bed
•private 3 piece bathroom
•lounge/TV room (includes cable)
bar frig, microwave, kettle, coffee maker, toaster oven, crockpot
•on-site parking (for a small fee)
•walking distance to subway
Whether you're in town for business or pleasure, our space is the perfect launching or landing pad. But we'll warn you in advance, if you're taller than 6' (180cm), the ceiling may be too low for you.
We are close to Greektown, The Beach, Little India and our neighbourhood has great cafes, bakeries, pizza, and Thai food. The best Ethiopian restaurants in the city are one subway stop or a 20 minute walk at Coxwell & Danforth.
Before hopping on the subway for a long day of touring T.O. you can grab some of the best croissants in the city at Celena's Bakery, and across the street, Caketown has GF options.
Our neighbourhood is buzzing with new development but still one of the friendliest neighbourhoods in the city. But don't take our word for it. Come stay with us and experience life with us 'locals' before you head out for an awesome visit in the T-Dot.
You will have access to our basement and our laundry room. When the weather is nice you're welcome to lounge in our hammock and use our BBQ in the backyard.
Interaction with Guests
We always like to meet our guests when they arrive to say hello and show you around the place. After that we like to offer as much privacy or company as you need! But we're always up to take our guests for drinks at Relish.
We love our neighbourhood for its friendliness and spirit. And while the development keeps coming, the down to earth, small town feel of East York hasn't changed.
Subway is a 10-12 minute walk to Woodbine Stn.
The 62 Mortimer bus is a 2 minute walk, and it will take you west to Broadview Stn and east to Main Stn.
Downtown is 20-25 minutes away on the TTC, depending on the time of day.
Other Things to Note
We don't keep a lot of food and beverages in stock, because we find that peoples' tastes vary enough that things we would provide wouldn't always get used up before going stale. We're close to a couple of grocery stores so we let our guests stock up with their favourites to prevent food going to waste!
The space has been waterproofed and is clean and dry. One guest said that there was a flood, but that wasn't the case. These tenants alerted us to some water inside during a particularly bad winter. When I came home to help, the space was dry. They had cleaned up a bit of water with paper towels. I cleared snow from the end of the sump pump and the space was completely dry from then on.
Who do we want to have as guest? Anyone who is friendly, respectful, and a good AirBNB community member! That means you get that AirBNB is about belonging and will respect that the space is our home, not a hotel. There will be no drug use, no unreasonably demanding people, and no creeps or you'll find yourself hitting the road.
1. Let us know what time you're arriving so that we can plan to meet you on your first night here. We like to meet our guests when they arrive to show them around.
2. No smoking indoors, smoking is permitted in backyard.
3. While you're staying with us, please respect our need for relaxation and a quiet environment.
4. Paying guests may enjoy our yard, additional guests are not permitted.
5. We like to conserve energy by using cold water for laundry.
6. For safety reasons, we don't permit cooking on an open burner in our space.
The listing was very accurate and the space was perfect for what I and my dog needed for a week while home searching here in Toronto. It felt a little way out of 'the down town core' but this is because the traffic on the Danforth is insane at the times I was travelling. Typically it would take me about 25 minutes to get to Young and College area.
The place itself is perfect though, very cute and quiet and Andrew and Paula both seem very lovely. There is very little interaction with them but when you have a question or need something they seem very willing to help.
I stayed here for exactly a month. If you want to feel like home this is the place. The host are a really nice and friendly couple. The basement is in mint condition and has everything you need.
Communication is mainly through email unless you requiere something specific. By this, I mean you have 100% privacy.
Really easy to connect to downtown. You have either a bus 3 minutes walking away to connect with TTC subway o a subway station 10 minutes walking.
Paula and Andrew were very accommodating of our changing schedule and were extremely responsive to any questions we had. Emails were returned promptly and questions were addressed quickly too.
The location was very handy for us and the space was clean and well appointed for our needs. The location is also good if you're new to the area and looking to have fairly quick access to local transit and other services/shopping.
The bed was comfy and the fact that they are dog-friendly was wonderful! Our pup was comfy too. :)
This was a great apartment to stay for a month while we were looking for a permanent place. Andrew and Paula were very accommodating and nice. They are pet-friendly, which is important for us, because we stayed with our small dog. The apartment itself is very comfortable, located in a nice and quiet neighborhood. We had everything we needed and the price is reasonable. I definitely recommend it.
Andrew & Paula were very welcoming. Although we often were passing ships in the night, I still felt welcomed. They made sure at least one of them was home to welcome me. When I had questions while I was there, they were always answered. The room was comfortable, and I loved that it was like having my own little apartment. The neighborhood was quiet and only minutes by car from Danforth Avenue with lots of shops, cafes and restaurants (Greektown). I would definitely recommend staying with them!
We stayed at Andrew and Paula's place for two months while we were new to Toronto and were looking for a permanent accomodation. Staying there was great. Andrew and Paula are amazing! Paula always responded fast on our emails. During our long stay some minor issues emerged but they were solved promptly. The apartment is super comfortable and clean. The kitchen is well equipped: it has dishes, cutlery, kettle, fridge, toaster, microwave, slowcooker. There is no stove but slowcooker is enough to prepare hot meal. Though the apartment is in the basement, there are windows so there is enough fresh air.
The location is great: the street is very quiet and there are a lot of small shops nearby. It takes 10 minutes to get to the subway station from where you can reach downtown in about half an hour. We stayed in September and October so it began getting colder outside. Though it is warm enough in the apartment, Paula and Andrew kindly gave us a space heater just in case.
The cats are very cute and friendly!
I definitely recommend this place!
Andrew and I are currently living/working in Toronto. I am a digital communications professional, Andrew is a writer, we both love music and we have two friendly cats.
