Originally the studio of a visual artist (long ago garden illustrator for The New York Times), this petite building is completely private. Firm queen bed. Mix of antiques and artisanal built-ins. Radiant heat. AC. Mini fridge and microwave, electric kettle, Chemex coffee maker and French Press, excellent wifi. Unique space in one of the best country neighborhoods around. 6.5 miles to Hillsborough healthy grocery store, 8 to Carrboro/Chapel Hill, 18 to Durham. Serene pond and grounds.

The space
For twenty years this studio was used for botanical and natural history illustration and life drawings. It was constructed by a gifted cabinet maker. The light is wonderful, the mood peaceful. Most of the art hanging on the walls was made here. Outside the french doors there is a sculptural brick wall built by the same cabinet maker. Mid twentieth century sculptures by a beloved great aunt. Short scenic drive to health-food/gourmet grocery store, or various restaurants run by award winning chefs.

Guest access
Guests are welcome to canoe, swim, try the hammock in tiny one person shed overlooking the pond. Or just sit back in the chairs and gaze at the water, a timeless pleasure even on winter days here in North Carolina.

Other things to note
My husband Neil (retired science publisher, late-life artist!) and I spent 30 years creating our sanctuary. It is a pleasure seeing guests enjoy these peaceful grounds.

Neighborhood highlights

We live in a rural neighborhood prized by cyclists and walkers. Our property is midway between Carrboro ("The Paris of the Piedmont") and Hillsborough ("The most literary town in America" according to The Wall Street Journal.)
Rolling fields, farm houses, starry nights, happening culture. Five minutes from a locally famous dairy and ice cream shop whose long porch of wooden rockers faces the sunset. Driving the country roads in any direction is a visual pleasure, twenty minutes to bohemian Saxapahaw or chic Durham, similar time travel to UNC or Duke campus, 45 to NC State, 35 to RDU airport.

Lives in Hillsborough, North Carolina
I am a visual artist (born 1953), interested in people, what makes them who they are, their different cultures. I grew up in northern Chile. My Canadian husband was a retired science publisher who late in life became a meticulous artist. We shared a love of design, film, food, friends. We moved to NC from New England in the late 80's; our ten acres have been a 30 plus year work-in-progress.
