Diane and John and their caretaker, Geri are wonderful hosts....very warm and welcoming and anxious to make your stay comfortable. They have created a lovely place and we so happy to be staying there. Beach is expansive and (email hidden)ch a relaxing and lovely piece of Hawaii. We would highly recommend the (email hidden)ANI .....away from the hustle and bustle of tourists and the ocean out your front door!
Di, John and Geri were amazing hosts! As Di was giving us our introductory tour I couldn't help but think "wow this is better than the Airbnb listing!" The privacy level was great and we never felt unsafe in the area. As we drove up the road to get to the studio we realized Aolani had the best location - it has a direct view of the ocean and is very easy to spot when driving up past sundown. Everything was so clean and organized. We had more than enough fruit and food for breakfast for the 4 days we were there. We will definitely recommend this beachside studio to anyone we know who wants to go to Kauai. This was our first airbnb stay and Aolani has set the standard for our future airbnbs! Awesome experience thanks to Di, John and Geri!
This ranks as one our top airbnb experiences with a 9-night stay for our 30th anniversary. So nice to lodge in a small community away from high volume, or congested tourist areas. Easy access to main highway, but tucked away in a very quiet neighborhood where we enjoyed walking along the coastal rode in the morning, greeted by friendly neighbors. This is the wetter side of the island (green lushness all around!), but within 40 minutes you can seek out a sunny beach, if needed. Pictures accurate. We had fresh flowers and fruit upon arrival plus bagels, butter, milk, juice...oh my! The studio was very clean, extremely peaceful, bright/airy, safe, and most of all, had gracious hosts. Geri is the resident Hawaiian caretaker who is a dear. While John and Di were initially away, Geri gave us a peak into her Hawaiian culture through her warmth, interesting stories, and authentic food. She checked on us daily with sensitivity to our privacy and seemed to know our every need. John and Di are very welcoming and have set up the apartment tastefully with 2 patio areas. Loved sitting out on a clear, star-lit night, as well catching glimpses of geckos, frogs, ducks and (harmless) cane spider during the day while out and about. The abundant island "bird" (chicken) is not a nuisance on the property, but enjoyed seeing them on our drive in with their chicks. Anahola beach, across from the house, is fun to explore or dip in the ocean on calmer days. Convenient washer/dryer. Full refrigerator. 2-burner stove and microwave (no oven); all the necessary utensils. Comfy bed with fan; lulled to sleep with ocean sounds and windows open. Use of boogie board, small cooler, and big beach towels. Hosts kept in close contact throughout booking process. We will have fond memories for years to come!
Our accommodations were exactly as advertised. The space is welcoming and fun. As a bonus, the art work is original with many pieces by Di, our host. Geri had fruit waiting for us as well as milk, juice, bagels, butter, jam and granola. She stopped by shortly after we arrived to see if we needed anything. We enjoyed our visits from Geri as she talked about her culture and even taught us how to make fish and grasshoppers out of ti leaves. I think my husband was disappointed we couldn't take them with us! He did take pictures, however. Walking on the beach in the morning was wonderful!
What a great spot! We arrived later in the evening due to our long flight but Geri was there to welcome us with a smile. My wife and I were surprised and very happy to see all the touches she made to make our visit feel special - from the soaps and such to the fruit and breakfast touches to the morning conversation we had with her about Hawaii. The location is convenient - we drove North as far as one can go and saw what we wished to on the 1st day then drove South as far as we could and saw what we needed to on the next. We had great access to some good food to (we felt it was better than what we found south of Hilo on the Big Island) The location is also great - one of our favorite things was waking up, sharing some fruit while the sun rose, then walking over to the beach for a nice walk in the sun before the locals arrived (even then it is still quite peaceful/private).
Sure, there are a couple of things with the place that I wasn't happy about but one quickly lets it go because everything else is so right here. The place is great for a beach loving foodie looking to see nature but Geri makes it special!
We had a lovely (email hidden)ani, and particularly enjoyed the Anahola beach. The beach had very few people, and was in a nice protected cove. The place is not large, but has been well taken care of and is a great retreat from the beach.
Our time at Di and John's place was peaceful and relaxing. It was the perfect location for us to go on adventures to both the south and north parts of the island. We appreciated the use of the beach chairs, beach towels, and beach bag - especially because the beach was so close! The apartment is beautiful, and had all the equipment needed for us to feel right at home. We can't wait to come back someday! Special thanks to Geri who checked in on is frequently to be sure we were well taken care of.

Aloha! I am a professional Sculptor and Painter, and an Interior Designer
My nickname is Di........pronounced Di ....... as in Princess Di :-)
My husband, John, is a contract house builder and designer.
We are Australians (well, I am actually a New Zealander, but spent most of my life in Australia). We spend our time living between Australia and Hawaii. Our dream was to own a beach house in Hawaii; and Kauai captured us! We bought our house five years ago and have completely remodeled it. We love paddling in our kayak up the Anahola River opposite our house and also love swimming, snorkeling, walking and beach-combing. We love good restaurants, fine wine, art galleries and to travel.
We have previously owned four restaurants and also built and run a 6 bedroom self-catered Lodge in country South East Queensland, Australia. When we are not residing in Hawaii our live-in Caretaker, Geri, will gladly assist you with whatever you need. You can see my sculpture and paintings online, just look for Di West.
..............................................We know you will love Kauai as much as we do! :-)
