  • We had a great, if brief, stay at Joyce's apartment. It was in a wonderful neighbourhood filled with children playing, roosters crowing and the peanut man hawking his wares of boiled peanuts with chili and lime. That said, our queen size bed was comfortable and we slept well in our bedroom tucked away off the main street. Our kind hostess provided us with snacks and wine and our one regret was that we had only one night to share a glass of wine with her. This is the real San Miguel and we loved it.

  • Casa Tecolote is the kind of home that makes you want to stay in every night and take a nap on a hammock, or enjoy the view of the sunset on the rooftop terrace! But it's in such a great location that you should probably go for a walk and get to know the town as well. Joyce was great at keeping in touch throughout the weeks before our arrival, and had great advice for us on driving into the city and finding the house (better than (website hidden) maps by the way). Although the listing is for Casa Alegria next door, Casa Tecolote is very similar and it was more beautiful than we expected! It was wonderful getting to know the other housemates, and Joyce goes out of her way to make you feel welcome and comfortable. She can give great recommendations as to what to do in San Miguel, and also great advice on life in general. I really hope to be back in Casa Tecolote some day!

  • Wonderful quiet, secure space. Just like the pictures. 10 minutes to the Jardin ....the Main Plaza. Everything you need to cook. Large refrigerator. Great internet access. Organic grocery store close by. Beautiful roof top views. Joyce is a wealth of information having lived there for so many years. Updated maps, and literature provided in the apartment. Clean with ample space for your things. Cute space with LOTS of light. To access the apartment use private entrance or access through Joyce's home... which ever makes you feel more comfortable. Quiet street at night makes for good sleeping. Safe neighborhood. As a woman traveling alone I felt very comfortable even walking home later at night. TV has several English channels. Highly recommend.

San Miguel is a wonderful vacation spot. Go to La Gruta hot springs for the day. An easy 15 minute taxi drive. The Mercado for authentic inexpensive shopping for food, art, clothing etc... is 5 minutes from the apartment. Lots of Expats with great stories live here. Get a massage at Jasmine's Day spa. Eat at La Milagro restaurant. Live music from 3pm on. Fly to Leon BJX and use BajiGo to get to the apartment front door. Very safe, friendly clean and beautiful city.

  • Joyce is the hostess with the mostest. She is very warm and welcoming, going out of her way numerous times to help us get settled with our 1 yr old.

We ended up staying at her house on Calle Tecolote rather than this one, so I can't comment on this appt. The private room on Tecolote was simple and nice, and the house very pleasant.

  • My friend and I spent 3 weeks in San Miguel, using it as a base to travel to nearby areas. We feel so lucky to have chosen Joyce's home and to have met such an interesting woman. She is warm, welcoming, ever helpful and will help make your stay in San Miguel even more special. Never short a travel story, a hippy from way back and loves to chat over a glass of red wine. The rooftop, the garden and the bright arched windows in the apartment make this place the perfect oasis for days and nights when you want to stay at home. Joyce knows all the best and cheapest places to shop, eat and explore. If you're open to it, she and her friends will become interesting characters in your travel story. If you are not a relaxed, easy going person or the the thread count of your sheets matters greatly or the crow of roosters drives you insane, go to a hotel. I highly recommend her and her home and plan to go back in the near future.

  • Joyce's place was perfect for us. We are a family currently with a preschooler and an infant. We didn't need anything fancy but wanted something cozy, clean and convenient. Joyce thoughtfully even included a high chair which i hadn't expected. It was all that and more. It's a three story structure where essentially the rented flat was the second floor. The kitchen had all we needed to make breakfasts and light dinners. There is a shared entrance and a beautiful terrace with an amazing view on top. Joyce has made sure there are rustic Mexican touches everywhere. As such don't expect luxury. Be prepared to hear roosters crowing or get mosquitos. (Joyce has citronella coils so ask). Do know that with the amazing view you need to walk steeply uphill of about 2 blocks. Very doable (I had a baby strapped on). Parking is on the street outside and if you do drive get good maps. As in Mexico in general sometimes getting lost is the adventure. We definitely want to go back. Thank you Joyce!

  • Joyce is a great person!
She had visited all of the world and her experince of travelling is amazing. was lovley to speak with her in the beautiful terrace of his house.looking at the sunset trough the city center.
The apartament is 99% indipendent, at the secon floor of her house of three floor, only the door to get in is the same for all the house.
The apartament is really bright and confortable, the bed is huge and the city map is free ( thanks to Joyce)
Great location, really near to the city center, only ten minutes walking and lots of shop on the way back if you want to buy food for your brekfast or dinner.
in the apartament you can find everything to prepare your meal.
