Interaction with Guests
We are not normally around when you arrive or leave, however can be reached on email.
This is a peaceful town, with a medieval origin and Dartmoor National park streams running through it. Go feed the ducks or sit in the 'Singing Kettle' cafe or 'The Seed' cafe/health food shop, to get a local taste of the place. Or walk onto the national park through the woods, or a stroll to Buckfast Abbey and to Hembury woods and River Dart swimming spots.
For children there is also a local Butterfly Farm and Otter Sanctuary as well as a steam train ride along the River Dart to Totnes. At sunset you can view bats in motion near the pre-historical caves or arrange a daytime guided tour to Joint Mitnor Cave (containing unfossilised remains of bison, hippopotamus, hyaena, elephant and others).
A short drive to Dartmoor Natural Park's many beauty spots and walks (maps and guide books for walks available) as well as beautiful beaches.
Only 15 minutes drive to Totnes, famous funky alternative and historical town (catch the weekend market), 25 minutes to the cities of Exeter or Plymouth.
Bus 88 from Exeter, Totnes and Newton Abbot stops near the house. Nearest train stations are in Totnes or N.Abbot, 15 min. away, however it's best to arrive here by car to be able to explore the moorland and beaches freely. Car rental from train stations (Totnes or Newton Abbot, Devon) are a good option.
Other Things to Note
There is a wood for the wood burners at the end of the garden.
Do not worry if you see my elderly neighbours walking to their back door behind the house, as this is a shared path.
No smoking in the house, or near the doors.
No noise outdoors after 10pm (not suitable for parties).
I am allergic to cats - please don't bring anything into the house that has cat hair on it (such as a blanket etc.).
Turn electric heating off when not in use.
Please leave clean and tidy.
