"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practise resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms, and, if it proved to be mean, why then to get the whole and genuine meanness of it, and publish its meanness to the world; or if it were sublime, to know it by experience, and be able to give a true account of it in my next excursion."
~ Henry David Thoreau

We had a wonderful stay at Lisa's little cabin in the woods. I got in late on our first night, so I did not get to meet her; regardless, we felt very well taken care of and loved the setting and the privacy of this beautiful place. We are so grateful for Steve and Lisa for opening up their little mountain treasure to us. Oh - and she provided us with breakfast goodies! What a treat! Nowhere else I have stayed has the host paid such attention to detail with such kindness and thought. Thank you, Lisa! We hope to stay with you again sometime! Maybe I will get to meet you then!
It is indeed a lovely cottage! The Altizers were so welcoming and were even there to greet me when I arrived. It was incredibly thoughtful of them and their coffee/tea and breakfast nibble spread was such a nice touch.
For those of you who may be concerned by the bedroom being away from the living area (as I was initially). I'm here to tell you that it was no big deal! The walkway is very short and well lit. And the cottage bedroom was actually one of the most restful places I've ever slept. Everything in the cottage and basement is so tasteful and quaint! You can't help but fall in love with it!
I'm sure you will enjoy your stay!
Lisa and Steve are perfect hosts. Everything in the cottage is SUPER clean, and all the furnishings add to the overall warmth. We were there during a very cold week with a lot of snow on the ground, but we were perfectly warm the entire time. They made sure the path was shoveled clear of snow. The bed is oh so comfortable, and the breakfast items are very thoughtful. We are definitely coming back!
This was an amazing property!.....it was well kept and very cozy!....Lisa was a wonderful host and made sure everything was provided and ready. We were visiting Wintergreen and our stay was an added bonus to the trip....it was very convenient to stores and highway......we will definitely return when the weather is warm, we would love to stay in the spring, because the winter/snow was absolutely beautiful!!!!!...... Thanks Lisa
Wonderful place to stay in the Lynchburg area. The cottage and private area are just as described. I stayed here the week of the VERY cold temperatures and stayed toasty warm. I highly recommend staying here - especially if you are doing the intensives at Liberty.
The Tiny Cottage was adorable! The decor was so cute and the room was very comfy for my needs. Lisa and her family were so friendly and hospitable. When I return to Lynchburg for my next intensive at Liberty, I will check with Lisa to see if the cottage is available. Not having a restroom in the cottage does present a challenge, but I planned ahead and it would not keep me from staying again in the future.
Unfortunately, I was in town for a sad occasion but was able to feel some comfort of home by staying at Lisa's Tiny Cottage. It is an amazing little place with lots of charm. Great for a getaway for any occasion.
Thank you so much for such a wonderful place to retreat. I loved it! Hope to come back again soon!
Lisa was a great host - the perfect quiet cottage for a romantic weekend away. We arrived late at night and everything was just as she said when we checked in. The cottage was perfect - lots of sunlight, quiet and secluded, and plenty of wifi. Lisa is very focused on cleanliness and we could tell in the cottage, the kitchen, living room and bathroom! She was sweet and hospitable and a capable host with suggestions for dining downtown. We found an affordable indoor rock climbing day pass, enjoyed a great hike at the Peaks of Otter (with a homemade BBQ sandwich at a road site stop ~2 miles from the peak), and great food and walking around downtown Lynchburg. A perfect small town feel with nature and hiking outside and some fun activities downtown as well. A definite recommendation for any couple that's hoping to get away for some R&R.
This is a perfect example of why we use Airbnb -- the right location, a unique experience, a clean, safe place to stay -- all for a good price. The cottage is lovely and truly unique. And the main house (w/ kitchen / living room / bathroom area) were just a few steps away, and had everything we needed (and everything was extra clean and neat). Lisa was a terrific host, very helpful and a good communicator. We arrived after dark and left early in the morning -- hopefully we can stay longer next time. All in all, a perfect stay.
