About This Listing
Welcome to our c.1900 Arts and Crafts home located on a quiet street in the heritage district of Port Dalhousie within walking distance of Lakeside Park. Relax in your choice of a clean and comfortable private, 1) shabby chic styled “white” room with a queen size bed. Or choose the 2) restful “sage-green” room. Both bedrooms face the quiet backyard. Guests have access to bath facilities (our upper floor is dedicated to our guests.) In addition guests have use of a sunny and cheerful breakfast room/TV lounge. We have one cat, Precious, but she is shy and usually hides in our private quarters.
A enormous Norway spruce, the “spirit” of the garden, canopies the back yard shade garden. There is a secluded seating arena for breakfast or to relax after your day’s sightseeing.
Be pleasantly surprised by our vegan breakfast option, we would be delighted to introduce you to that healthy and delicious choice. We’re happy to accommodate gluten free dietary restrictions as well – just let us know in advance.
Port Dalhousie is a scenic and historic lakeside district in St. Catharines – a simple jaunt off the QEW. Port “Daloozie” (the local pronunciation – attributed to the Scottish stonemasons that worked on the early canals) was the site of the first Welland Canal in 1829 as well as 3 later canals. Locals and the visitors alike enjoy strolling along the quiet streets, taking in the heritage homes and lovely gardens to the popular family beach, beautiful pier, harbour and Martindale Pond. Port Dalhousie revels in a variety of beautiful water views! Local tour guides offer reasonable and well-researched walking tours of the charming heritage village of Port Dalhousie. If you have children (or even if you don’t) take a ride on the charming carousel in Lakeside Park (only 5 cents a ride!)
We’re centrally and conveniently located in Niagara peninsula – jump onto the QEW for 15 minutes to the world-famous attractions of Niagara Falls, Buffalo in 45 minutes, or sophisticated and multicultural Toronto is only an hour away. We are in the centre of the Niagara Wine country – 80+ wineries. Port Dalhousie is also a ½ hour country drive away from beautiful Niagara-on-the-Lake – but without the NOTL premium prices. Learn to love Port Dalhousie as much as the locals do!
For business or for pleasure, we welcome you all! The whole upstairs of the home is dedicated to our guests. You will have a private space of your own.
You will have a private area - (breakfast lounge) where you can make tea and also there is a Keurig coffee marker, comfy couch, TV and microwave and WiFi.
You can relax on the front porch or back yard under the gigantic Norway Spruce or sitting area. Only 5 minute walk to Henley, the marina and the great beach and the historic 5 cent carousel ride for all who are young at heart. Easy access to Niagara-on-the lake, Niagara Falls and just 1 hour drive to Toronto. 2 minute walk to the nearest bus stop.

As a vegan myself, I would highly recommend this B&B, both for other vegans and for everyone. The breakfast I had was delicious and filling, and can be customized to your liking. There is also a great vegan restaurant in downtown St Catharines, Rise Above, which is famous for its desserts in particular. The house is in a quiet residential area but only a few minutes walk from the lovely Lakeside Park with its beach, marina and antique carousel. Janet is a friendly and very hospitable host, and was also kind enough to pick me up from the downtown bus station and take me back there when I was leaving.
Janet is a wonderful host who was incredibly accommodating. I was able to come and go without a fuss and the vegan breakfast was a nice treat. I would definitely recommend this to anybody who is looking for a comfortable place to stay. And if I had more time, I would have loved to spend more time in the area. A great location - go for a run or walk along the water, if you can!
Lovely home and lovely host in a charming and quiet neighborhood. Janet made the most wonderful vegan breakfast (and we are not even practicing vegans, but it was DELICIOUS!). She is also a wealth of knowledge about the area. The house is within walking distance of shops, restaurants and Lakeside Park - don't miss the sunset. Highly recommended, I'd definitely stay again if ever in the area.
Janet's B&B was easily our best stop in Ontario. We had the whole upstairs of the house to ourselves - the large bedroom had a very comfortable bed, the bathroom was roomy and spotless, and the lounge had a flatscreen TV, PC, microwave, etc.
The highlight was an excellent vegan breakfast with fruit smoothies, home-baked pastries & vegan sausage.
My husband and I spent a lovely night in Janet’s place. We arrived last minute in the evening and everything was just perfect! She welcomed us with a cold drink and she showed us the house, that is really beautiful and very clean, and she suggested us some good restaurants and places in the area, including a beautiful wineries trip (which we strongly suggest). She is a perfect host!
The room is bigger than it seems in the pictures and also the bathroom is spacious and extremely clean. The queen bed is extremely comfortable. Janet prepared us a delicious vegan breakfast (smoothies, cereals, muffin...) and there is also a nice espresso machine with wide selection of coffee. We couldn’t have asked more. The neighborhood is safe and close to the lake, and parking is free just in front of the house. This is the perfect place to stay if you want to relax and enjoy Niagara Falls and the nearby area, including Niagara on the lake (which is a beautiful and lovely town - thanks Janet for suggesting us this trip).
Unfortunately we stayed there only for one night, but we hope to come back in the future.
We strongly recommend Janet’s place.
What a great experience at Janet's place! It was in the perfect location - comfortable beds - good private space - and she had a wonderful fresh breakfast waiting for us in the morning! Janet was extremely welcoming when we arrived and offered us a cold drink as we rushed to get ready for a wedding...on the house! I look forward to staying there again!!

About the Host, Janet
I’ve lived in Port Dalhousie for 7 years and love it. I enjoy walking and exploring the area. I’ve really enjoyed re-decorating the upstairs of the house, (which is exclusively for the bed and breakfast) and making it private and comfortable for my guests.
I’m a passionate vegan and always tinkering with new recipes, especially smoothies and juices. I’m a reader, pianist and gardener. Like most people, I like movies.
I like chatting with people, but can also sense when people want time to themselves. I used to work at one of the local wineries so I can recommend interesting places for guests to go.
