Fran was a wonderful host and gave us good instructions about how to use the hot water, electricity and heating if needed. She also gave us a history of her home, farm and her area. The house was clean but is 100+ years old with its own charm, quaintness, with some uneven floors and a musty smell but had updated appliances and bathrooms. Plus there was a washer and dryer in a separate area that came in very handy to wash clothes. You do have to pay extra for electrical use and heating oil so that is something to be aware of. It is in a small town of Ardfert which was a bit farther away then I thought from Killarny, Dingle and the Ring of Kerry which we were going to visit.

I had a wonderful stay at Fran's home. The house is comfortable with plenty of space and it is well situated for lots of great activities. Fran was very helpful with suggestions on what to see as well as good places to eat. I would definitely recommend it, and plan to return there myself.

Fran met us on arrival, and showed us how to work everything in the house. She was welcoming, and willing to answer any questions we had. The house is exactly as shown, and is very comfortable. The house is at the end of Ardfert village, with the ruin of Ardfert Cathedral a couple hundred feet away. There is ago of restaurant in the village. The house is convenient to the D

I was very pleased with our selection of the Charming Farmhouse in Ardfert and wished I’d spent more time with our hostess Fran, a kind and lovely, hardworking woman and farmer who made us feel very welcome. We enjoyed the personal touches like fresh bread, butter, milk, and cookies. She happily obliged with a flexible check-in time and the amenities we needed, including towels and kitchen essentials to make our stay great. Generations of Fran’s family has lived in the area since before 1847, when our charming accommodation was built. There are three bedrooms and 1.5 baths with 4 beds which was more than the three of us needed. The electricity is managed by the use of a meter which you feed $2Euros. It lasts about 24 hours, depending on what kind of electricity you need. She had a full washer and dryer and clothes lines, which were fantastic conveniences by this leg in our journey. We also opted to run the oil overnight which we paid by the unit for, approximately $28E for 4 days, approximately 8 hours at night, to keep our rooms cozy and allow us the opportunity to wake lazily and ease into our days. The oil itself can be programmed or run manually. The town of Ardfert is steeped in history, with Franciscan Friary and chapel ruins. There are also multiple cemetery’s featuring gravestones with celtic crosses, many dating back to the early 1800’s; so old you can barely see the engravings. They also have a delicious restaurant, Kate Browne’s Pub! Generally, Ardfert was an excellent base in the country, where we made day trips to Dingle Town, Killarney National Park, and the entrance to the Ring of Kerry, all within an hours drive. Another great attraction was the Banna Strand beach, within 5 miles of the property. If you’d like a lovely and inexpensive place in the country to day trip out of, I highly recommend Fran’s farmhouse!

We really enjoyed our stay in Ardfert. The people are lovely, including Fran and any local we came across! Using the hot water heater and electric meter was pretty straightforward, just be sure to bring your €2 coins! As it was just the two of us, electricity didn't cost too much. Kerry is such a nice place, and we enjoyed our accommodations!

We LOVED staying at Fran's farmhouse. It has a very pleasant atmosphere and some really pretty bits, especially the upstairs bedrooms and the view of the farm from the back windows. We enjoyed walking around the village of Ardfert, buying groceries, visiting the restaurant/pub, touring the ruined cathedral and the more recent church and graveyard where some of our ancestors are buried. We enjoyed watching the cows and feeding the visiting cat. We were busy visiting relatives and didn't get to "play tourist" much, but the farmhouse made a good base for driving the Dingle peninsula, visiting Tralee, Fenit, Killarney, etc. We planned to drive the Ring of Kerry from it too, but just ran out of time. The utilities (oil heat and coin-operated electricity) were a bit confusing to us at first but we adapted and it was part of the fun. We thought the heat might be pretty expensive if it was colder but in late May it wasn't too bad. Fran was lovely and went to quite a bit of trouble to accommodate our desired sleeping arrangements. She couldn't have been nicer and was very interesting to talk to. Everyone we met in Ardfert was lovely and friendly, in fact.
