About this listing
The Pub is a cool and comfortable one bedroom tiny house in my beautiful backyard. It is built with reclaimed wood and windows. It comfortably fits two and is located in a beautiful quiet neighborhood only minutes drive to downtown and beaches.
This tiny guest house is an artistic and rustic little cabin in my backyard! It is really not a BNB, just a great little place to stay in Cambria. We call it "the pub", as it looks and feels like an old English pub, but much smaller. It has one full size bed and a single bed.
Although, there is NO TOILET or running water in the pub, guest have access to a beautiful outdoor private shower and guest bathroom in the main house. We have filtered water for drinking available in the pub, an electric tea pot, coffee, tea, and a small frig for food/drinks.
WIFI available in the Pub! Flat screen TV and DVD player In the Pub (a few DVDs to watch and a HDMI cable and hook up for your computer). Parking is free and easy.
Cambria can be cold at night, especially winter and sometimes during spring time! The pub is heated with a wood stove. It does heat up nicely, but cools down quickly when you go out and in the morning when you wake up.
The main house is a certified Green House by the SLO Green Building Association. Like a lot of travelers I meet, I am inspired to travel and live day by day producing the smallest footprint possible.
A new study shows "Airbnb Rentals are Greener Than Traditional Hotels!" You can search for the article if interested.
Hearst Castle, downtown Cambria, and the ocean are all just minutes away by car. Downtown is about a 15 minute walk there and 20 minutes back. It is all down hill to the East Village from our house, so coming back can be challenging. Fiscallini Ranch Perserve is also about a 15 minute walk to our favorite trailhead from our front door.
I need an hour heads up before your arrival so I can get home to greet you. It is best to use Airbnb to contact me. There is NO reception in Big Sur and it takes 3 solid hours not stopping to drive from Monterey to Cambria! This IS NOT a stretch of highway you want to drive at night. It is extremely beautiful and very dangerous!
NO BREAKFAST served (although we have shared dinner and/or breakfast with guest if time and schedules permit).
NO PETS allowed, I have one female dog on the property, she is an alpha female and it takes some work to get her to accept other doggies in her territory!!!!! She is absolutely great with people and kids.
No smoking in or around the house! I have a designated smoking area, please ask.
Friendly Dog on Property!! Lucy is my sweetheart, if you fall in love, you cannot have her!!!
The pub sleeps really great, very quiet, except for the occasional raccoon that travels over the roof top. I love to build a fire in the rainy season, get a good book and settle into the pub for hours! Looking forward to meeting you!
You will have full access to the garden and bathroom in the main house. You are also welcome to use the kitchen in the main house. The Pub guesthouse has no bathroom or kitchen. Reverse Osmosis drinking water, frig, tea kettle(hot water), french press, tea, and coffee are available in the Pub. Wifi available as well as TV(DVDs only) and stereo.
Hot Tub on the property NOT available to guest. Sorry, it's just too hard to keep clean with so many folks coming and going. Private outside shower with a low flow shower head available.
I always interact with guest upon arriving and most of the time when they depart. During my guest stay, I do my best to be social and provide privacy. If someone shows up and just needs space and time to rest, that's pretty easy to read. I have had the sweetest opportunity to connect with guest and become friends frequently. It's been a rich experience for sure!
Cambria is a quiet beach community where the forest meets the ocean. Our neighborhood is very quiet, friendly, and charming. This is the Lodge Hill community of Cambria and we are mostly sunny. A lot of neighborhoods get fogged in during the summer season, our little neighborhood is regularly sunny while the coast is socked in with fog.
We are in Stage 3 drought conditions which means water restrictions have been place on the community. What this means for guest is that we work together to be water wise. Short showers, not running water while brushing your teeth, etc. Please be conscious to help our community conserve an important natural resource. Thank You!
There is a community bus in town and a bus line into Morro Bay, Paso Robles, and SLO. It is a lovely way to travel the coast!
Guest have access to the mainhouse 24/7. If you need anything don't hesitate to ask.
Interaction with Guests
I do interact with guest, but respect your privacy as well. Since guest have to enter the mainhouse to access their bathroom, we often cross paths in the morning. I interact with guest upon check-in almost always and if I am around in the evening. I like to wake up, walk Lucy Dog, and try and get a surf in before I start my day.
We are situated in a very quiet neighborhood called Lodge Hill. It is an older neighborhood in the community with a very homey feel.
There is a short cut to take if you want to walk downtown, but I have to show you the first time as it is hard to find at first!
Other Things to Note
Cambria's water supply is very low and we have been put under tight water restrictions. I ask guest to do their best to help us conserve water by taking short showers, turning off water when brushing teeth and shaving, and following flushing ideas like, "if it's brown flush it down, if it's yellow, it's mellow. Thank you!
No smoking in or around the house. I have a designated smoking area, please ask where that is.
Check in is between 5PM and 9PM, please email via Airbnb at least an hour before arriving so we can plan to meet you at the house. I love it when guest give me an eta via (website hidden) the night before or morning of arrival and update me if it is changing for some reason. No need to communicate arrival time if you are on schedule with your eta. Texting and Phoning my cell phone is risky as reception is spotty and I often don't receive messages.
Check out is 11AM.
We do not recommend leaving SFO and trying to make it to Cambria before dark! The Big Sur stretch between Carmel and Cambria is slow, beautiful, and steep. Hwy 1 through Big Sur is too dangerous to drive at night! Stay in Carmel or Monterey and enjoy one of the most amazing stretches of Highway in the daytime!! Drive Safe, never get in a hurry to get here. You will not have reception at all in this area.
Email, via airbnb is the best way to contact me, texting second!
We opted out of serving breakfast on Airbnb's amenities list, but often offer something if we are doing something and schedules coordinate!
No arrivals after 9PM unless previously arranged with me, thank you!!
We hope you enjoy your stay, please don’t hesitate to ask if you need anything!
No loud noise after 9PM!
Please keep showers within a reasonable time frame. Cambria is having a water shortage, so it’s very important to conserve water.
Shoes off in the main house please.
Please do not park across from anyone’s driveway, there are two great spots you can pull slightly off road onto the curb. We can point that out to you.
We live in a very safe neighborhood, but no street lights in the neighborhoods, take a flashlight with you if your going out after dark.
Please Conserve Energy and Water.
Please plan your fire around being in the Pub Guesthouse, if left unattended it will go out.
Do not flush anything but TP.
Please keep your food put away properly or it will attract mice. You are welcome to use our refrigerator if you would like to sleep with no electricity hum. Your frig works well and is cool within minutes. Store dry food in a plastic bin or in our house in a food drawer.
Grey and Brown towels are for bodies after showers, no beach use, no slopping up messes on the floor please, etc.
Extra towels for cleaning/beach can be provided.
*IF mattresses, couch, anything get wet, please let us know, the sooner we have it steam cleaned the better, thank you. Also, if any other little mishap occurs just let us know so we can work to get it repaired as soon as possible.
Thank you very much!
We loved the Tiny House! Such a cool space--like being in a luxury childhood playhouse. Ammy was incredibly friendly and gracious and made us feel right at home.
Loved this little Pub House! My mother and I both wish we had more time to stay and explore the area. We only knew about Hearst Castle, but the little village of Cambria is quite cute.
Ammy was an amazing host! Made us feel very welcome as her guests. The fresh fruit in the morning was absolutely delicious! Next time either of us are in the area, would love to stay here! Will definitely recommend to friends and family!
The tiny house is nice and Amy is friendly and welcoming.
Highway 1 is a fantastic drive and it is worth doing it during the day, so Cambria is a good place to stay
Ammy was fantastic- very sweet and kind. The accommodations were great too- the pub was awesome! It's a cozy little guesthouse in Ammy's backyard. The pub has a lot of character, definitely a unique AirBnB experience. Drinking water, French press coffee and a nice music stereo system are provided in the pub, as well as a nice outdoor shower. What's more, Ammy also provides us some fresh fruit, bread and oatmeal for breakfast. Highly recommend!! THANK YOU again Ammy!!
Ammy was the best host you can imagine. We immediately felt at home. A welcome couldn't be warmer and any more authentic. Ammy's house and cottage (the "pub") where we stayed are a peaceful oasis hidden in the most beautiful garden you've ever seen. It feels like sleeping in the woods or in a treehouse. We loved it. 5 stars for sure. Thanks for everything Ammy and say woof to Lucie. 3
Coolest spot to date on airbnb! The pub has oodles of character and charm. Hosts made us feel so at home, and even drove our biker selves into town.
