The Space

Our yoga ashram is a simple and cozy suburban 70's style brick rancher, doing double duty as both a suburban yoga studio and healing space.
Our house stay caters to those already on a holistic or spiritual path, professionals, teachers, and University affiliates.

We're located just 9 minutes down the road from the University of Tennessee--UT--and 20 minutes from Tyson McGee airport. We are also just under an hour to the Smokey Mountains and the Appalachian trail.

We provide rides to and from downtown and the airport for small fee, as well as bicycle rental.

This family-oriented home-stay is perfect for you if you are already into earth-logic, natural and organic foods, local farming and the pursuit of true happiness and wholeness. We are located in an area of the suburbs that is quiet, relaxed and easy to get to, just about 8 minutes from downtown.

Our home also has a big, loving dog, Oscar, who will soon become your friend if you are an animal lover. We have 3 bedrooms, one with half-bath, a shared common bathroom, full kitchen, and fully equipped yoga studio with mats, blocks, props.

For going out, we have easy access to downtown, theatre and the Smokey Mountains. Our house is smoke free. We offer a choice of 2 rooms. One has a twin bed, and can sleep up to 2 people, one has a queen bed with half bath. We host both individuals and families who seek a more comfortable, home centered environment while traveling where you can cook good food.

Whether you are in town for a concert weekend, professional work, educational event, or just visiting friends and family, our yoga home provides a peaceful and healing environment for energizing your heart and mind.

We have a quiet, wooded backyard for afternoons, and a comfortable dining space and sunny sitting room for evening meals, computer work and reading. We only use Wi-Fi and being in the woods, it can be spotty--best access is to take yourself down to one of our many coffee shops if you really need to get online a lot! Our house is where you come to UNPLUG!

Yoga Nivas, in Sanskrit means to dwell or abide within. While you are here, for a small fee, you can opt for a Private Healing Yoga Session in Kundalini Yoga or Crystal Earth-based Reiki.

For the more serious seekers, we also offer an intensive pranayam or vegetable juice fasting and detox-weekend program. Please contact Ajeet once you've booked your reservation for pricing.

Our yoga teacher used to say that god lives in cozy homes. We like to think of our place as sweet and simple. Guests should expect to become an extended part of the yoga family here with good vibes, and great food!

Your weekend stay includes simple organic breakfast, juice and vegetables in season and for longer stays, we take you to our local farmer's market and 3 rivers market-our local coop.

The South Knoxville neighborhood is a quiet suburban subdivision, within 10 minutes of downtown, and UT--University of Tennessee--with local shops and a Market Square. UT's row of eateries and bakeries offer yummy treats and the live music and theatre in Knoxville is booming, with the Opera, Tennessee Theatre and The Bijou Theatre-- one of the Souh East's best live music venues, all within 15 minutes of our house!

And, for the family, we are just a little less than forty-five minutes away from some incredible hiking in the Smokey Mountains. You can ride the Cherahola Skyway, you can visit Pigeon Forge and the malls, or you can bliss out and hike the Blue Ridge Mountains and Appalachian Trail. We are also just under an hour away form Hot Springs, North Carolina, a great place for rafting and hot-tubing.

National Park, 110 miles from Chattanooga/Lookout Mtn., 200 miles to Atlanta/Alpharetta, 120 miles to Abington, VA, a great family vacation spot in the south.

Guest Access

Our front and back yard, woods, walking trails and a wildflower woods about 2 miles down the road.

Interaction with Guests

We interact with our guests daily and expect our guests to have the same holistic approach and food style as we do. We eat only farm-raised foods, organic vegetables and dairy; no fast food!

Ours is a family style place, and we love enjoying games and meals with our guests; expect to be come one of our family.

You can request extra detox options if you are interested in doing juicing. There is an extra charge for the cleanse options.

The Neighborhood

I love it's view of the mountains, it's quiet and peace.

Getting around

In this town, more policy was given to cars than to transport, so if you like to and want to get around locally, drive your car half-way to downtown, then explore on local buses and trolleys. Or, if you are in great shape, borrow or rent a bike from UT and cycle into town--in takes about an hour each way.

Other Things to Note

Our home is about 45 minutes from the gorgeous Smokey Mountains, Lakes, Dams and wonderful sprite waterfalls. If you love hiking, take some time to do a loop on our Appalachian Trail, see a trailhead, paddle on the French Broad or go see some live music at The Blue Plate Special, downtown.

  • A home away from home!

I had to stay in Knoxville for 2 months for work, and it was a real pleasure being Ajeet's guest. Had I chosen a serviced apartment, I would have been bored and clueless about a lot of things, whereas instead, I was greeted by Ajeet and helped out on a variety of things. For example, she was very accommodating in helping me find a car or means of transport, and was very caring and expansive (doing groceries together, carpooling, showing me around the area etc.)
I have never lived in a house with a dog (an initial concern), but Oscar (the house dog) is a real treat, well behaved, and will quickly become your friend, greeting you when you return to the house and occasionally asking you to play with him :-)
The house is generally well-kept, and the room is large so as to have privacy when one wants it. It has plenty of drawer and wardrobe space for to stow away clothes and personal items.
In terms of location, it is close to downtown: a few minutes by car or a ~25 minute bicycle ride. It also has easy access to Alcoa highway (although the area itself is very quiet), and thus allows you to get to any other part of the town quickly.

All in all, it was a pleasurable stay and would definitely recommend Ajeet as a host!

  • I spent a month at Ajeet's place and had a wonderful time. Ajeet is a very nice person, very welcoming and made me feel very comfortable while I was staying there. I'll especially be missing her dog Oscar, who was my first new Southern friend. :)

  • Ajeet is a treasure. Staying there felt like staying with friends even though we'd never met before. Much much better than a hotel!!!

I am the owner of Light Tree ~ Healing Home & Yoga Bnb. We host passion-driven artists, travelers, scientists, happy parents and children, who access their true essence of Self through yoga, dance, meditation and natural, sustainable living. I am a yogi and performance artist and I enjoy traveling to communities around the world, leading workshops, sharing my work and teaching. As my 17 year old son puts it, "Ajeet helps to smooth out the rough edges of a busy day, or put a higher curve in a smooth day". I've also been told after a healing session with me, it's like where there were hills, there is only speed bumps. I like this analogy. I teach from a somatic view--it's all in our bones~ our heart and mind, emotions and illness ~ weave their web of peacefulness or stress that holds our world in place. I'm working right now teaching my children's yoga program, Dancing Spider Yoga which helps both parents and teachers share and learn yoga, while giving them 100% of the tools they need to bring yoga into their community and family. While you are here, I'll have clients for yoga classes, Full Moon gatherings and healing sessions. If you like, go to my website, (website hidden), and book a session for yourself. It'll take the rough edges off your travel and give you good sleep. I'm also here to share stories, good food recipes, and good simple laughter. In the summer I teach an Acting Course through the University of Tennessee through Kids U! My program, Got Talent! is an improvisational acting and theatrical class for elementary aged children. During the year, I lead Indian kirtan, Kundalini Yoga and meditation and also perform a Children's Yoga Live! concert for families. I live in the suburbs, so going hiking and visiting farms is a must! I'm part of several local community organizations, and am a beloved arts-driven social activist, permaculture student and intentional community expert. In this line of work, I help women and men uncover what is holding back their passion in life, and through the lens of yoga and meditation, absolutely reduce their stress so that they can embrace all of life with grace, radiance, and deep bliss As a yoga and performing arts-in-education specialist I have taught at Natures Way Montessori School, Knoxville County Magnet Schools, Children's Hospital, YMCA, The Glowing Body, Helen Ross Mcnabb Mental Health Center, Sisters of the Rainbow, Knoxville County Public Defenders Office, and the Public Library. I am available for a private session as a great way to 'get grounded' once you arrive! If you would like to schedule a Relax into Radiance day during your stay at Yoga Nivas, it would include a 1 hour healing, followed by a detoxifying juice.
