About this listing
Beautifully decorated with quality furnishings, Casa Azteca is a great two-bedroom home on the boundary of San Miguel's Historical Center. This sunny, bright and charming house offers all the amenities for today's discerning travelers.
Casa Azteca is a gorgeous Mexican influenced two-bedroom house for people who want to be able to walk into town, but be located somewhat out of the hustle and bustle of el Centro. Situated partway up the hill above the main Mercado, yet still within the boundaries of San Miguel's Historical Center, this sunny and bright charming house is constructed on three levels and offers all the amenities of a home away from home.
From the entryway, the ground floor level of the house features the master bedroom and its cozy sitting area with a fireplace, described by one of our guests as the most beautiful and comfortable bedrooms she has ever slept in. The queen size bed has a pillowtop mattress, fine sheets and comforters. A large walk-in closet is next door to the double-sink bathroom with its colorful tilework, polished cement counter tops and large bath- shower.
At the end of the entryway, framed by a beautiful arch is an oasis garden area with a large date palm and plants open to the sky, bringing lots of light into the master bedroom.
Up the staircase, you come to the main living floor of the house, complete with a second fireplace, flatscreen TV, a built-in DVD player and a CD player with iPod docking station. The well-outfitted kitchen with its polished cement counter tops and center island includes everything you will need for the most simplest meal to hosting the most elaborate dinner party. This then opens onto a sunny terrace with chairs and table along with a barbecue station. A dining area and half-bath are also on this level. This great room has wonderful light throughout the day, which is not all that common in most San Miguel homes.
One more level up and you find the second guest bedroom, as well as a sunny roof terrace with vistas across San Miguel's historic Centro toward the western sunset. Five of San Miguel's famous churches are visible from the terrace, but you may prefer simply to relax with a good book on the lounge chairs and enjoy the afternoon sun. This bedroom has another queen size bed, also with pillowtop mattress and fine bed linens, plus an en-suite bathroom.
The house rental includes the maid services of Angelica 3 times a week, wireless Internet connection for your own laptop, cable TV , and local Telmex phone service. A Vonage line is also included in the house, which guests can use for free calls back to the States.

Andy and Dorothy were great hosts! My family and I spent 3 nights at Casa Azteca and had a great time. The house is beautiful and cozy giving you a nice and private space since it is 3 floors. Master in first floor with recreation room in second floor and second room in the third floor with full bath and balcony. The house is situated in a nice neighborhood just 15 minute walk to la Parroquia de San Miguel in el Jardin. A small convenience store was available around the block for essentials. House furniture and decoration is beautiful as well as clean. Having a local and international telephone to make free calls to the US was a nice touch. Thank you for everything we will be back!
Andy and Dorothy were incredibly generous and welcoming hosts, both accommodating our late arrival and going above and beyond with special touches that made us feel truly at home. Their home is absolutely beautiful and meticulously kept, and wonderfully located just on the edge of the action. It was such a close proximity to everything, yet blissfully serene and quiet, we couldn't have imagined a better place to base ourselves during the visit.
Casa Azteca is beautifully furnished in Mexicana style. Many friends who enjoyed breakfasts with us in the light and inviting kitchen/dining/living area were impressed with the beautiful home, the quality furnishings and view from the terrace. The neighbourhood is convenient with easy access to everything.Dorothy and Andy are easy to communicate with and respond immediately if you need them. Angelica, who came three times a week to clean the house, is a true angel who does her magic and leaves a sparkle. Our 6 weeks were glorious and we hope to return.
I could not have had a better AirBNB experience than I did at Casa Azteca. The house is wonderful, and even more attractive in person than in the photos. The neighborhood is relatively quiet (it is Mexico, after all) and the walk down to el centro only takes 5 minutes. As long as you are in reasonable physical shape, the one steep hill going up to the house should not be a problem - it's actually a plus after a day or night of eating and imbibing! Lastly, Andy and Dorothy and the housekeeper Angelica are all nice, funny, wonderful people. I really appreciated A&D taking the time to be there when I arrived and also to see me off yesterday morning - a very nice personal touch. You will not regret going to San Miguel and staying at this casa hermosa.
I had a wonderful stay at Casa Azteca. The house is beautiful (just as it appears in the photos), clean, and comfortable and the views are spectacular. Dorothy and Andy were great hosts. I would definitely recommend this location.
We spent two weeks in San Miguel de Allende, one of them at Andy and Dorothy’s house. The house is situated a short walk above the city center and the Jardín offering great views over the old part of the town and the countryside to the west. It is in a safe Mexican neighborhood with lovely friendly people and little shops where the locals buy their daily needs, including a place where one can get fresh handmade tortillas in the morning, the freshest and tastiest tortilla we ever had. The house has a great ambiance and is full of colors, comfortable. It is discreetly decorated in the local style and shows the owners love for details. It is a perfect place and has about everything what a ‘gringo’ needs while away from home. We appreciated the well equipped and functioning kitchen giving us alternatives from eating out after a strenuous day touring the city. Angelica the lovely housekeeper looks very well after the house, working in the background and keeping it clean and tidy. We enjoyed the spectacular sunsets from the roof terrace and slept very well in the comfortable beds. Andy and Dorothy are wonderful hosts, giving us the information we needed to stay well in the house. The contacts with them were open and heartily, we really felt like staying with friends. All this made our stay in San Miguel de Allende and unforgettable experience. Time and circumstances permit we will be back in San Miguel de Allende and Andy and Dorothy’s house.
Carole and Nick
We very much enjoyed our stay in Casa Azteca. Dorothy and Andy were perfect hosts, who welcomed us with flowers, brewed coffee and much friendliness. We communicated with them throughout our stay and they were super responsive to our needs and to share their vast local knowledge. The house is well designed, plenty of light and all the facilities we required. For some of the time our adult children joined us and we could comfortably relax in the lounge or the terrace with its nice view. The BBQ was used to good effect. The wifi was very good. The only possible drawback is the location. It's not super far from Centro, and it is close to the market, but it is at the top of a rather step hill. Great for exercise.
About the Host, Andy And Dorothy
We have lived in San Miguel de Allende for the past 13 years. We are travelers at heart and have lived in Germany, California, Kyoto, Osaka and India. We understand how important it is to feel at home when you are traveling, ie comfortable beds, great cooking facilities and a hot,hot shower. Dorothy and I started our lives together 33 years ago, we had no money but we did have an old yellow Datsun, a tent and a somewhat sketchy camping stove.
We graduated then to youth hostels and backpacks to hotels that only Kérouac in his Dharma Bum days could love (as did we) to the style of living that we would now like to offer you. This then, is our new adventure, providing a comfortable beautiful home away from home, for other travelers.
