Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.

Mountain view

Soak up the view during your stay.
Enjoy your stay in our fully renovated 19th century chapel, just a step away from a dairy farm at Col de Tamié and over the hill from the Abbaye de Tamié, where the monks still make their famous cheese.

In the winter, enjoy sledding and snowshoeing just outside the front door. The ski resort Les Saisies and Crest-Voland are 45/60 minutes away, and some of the largest ski resorts in the world are an hours drive from the house.

The space
In the fall of 2017, the chapel was fully renovated into an all-season vacation home. The bottom floor consists of an open living area complete with a church bench and dining room table as well as a cozy area with a couch next to the woodburning stove. The kitchen is located on the first floor of the steeple - a tight space, but with everything you would need, including an induction stovetop and a convection microwave oven. The floor heating under the tile is a real treat! Upstairs there are two bedrooms, each with a double bed and a velux window with views of the mountains. The bathroom is located on the second floor of the steeple, again a tight space but with a shower, toilet and sink. And above it all, a skylight looking up into the steeple!

The chapel cannot be accessed by car. You can park in the village and walk the last 50 meters up the hill on the dirt or snow-covered road. Take a sled to come back down in winter! If you have difficulty with mobility, it is not advised that you stay here (access to chapel and staircase inside).

There is a screen with a Chromecast to cast from you device as well as boardgames and books for both children and adults.

The washing machine is located in our house. Please bring us your dirty laundry and we will do a load for you. You can then hang the clothes to dry on the rack in the chapel.

Please empty trash and recycling in the communal bins (located on your drive out, not at col de Tamié). If you go towards Faverges, there are multiple locations of bins on the drive through Seythenex. If you go towards Lyon, there are bins in Verrens-Arvey in front of the school.

Guest access
The chapel is an independent house. You have complete access to the the house as well as the surrounding garden.

Other things to note
As you're not far from a working farm, it's important to remember all that comes along with this. For example, the cows might graze just the other side of the fence or you'll hear the tractor going by.

There is limited cell phone service at the house, but the internet works well and phone calls can be made this way.

For those of you with babies, we have a baby bed and high chair available.

During the Christmas holiday and throughout the summer, we prefer to accept minimum week-long stays (unless otherwise noted on the calendar). Thanks for understanding!

Neighborhood highlights

With just a handful of houses located at Malapalud at the Col de Tamié, we hope you'll find the tranquility you're looking for! While you're in the area, visit the Abbaye de Tamié monastery located just over the hill, or the new ropes course at the Fort de Tamié, both within walking distance. The Col de Tamié is well known with cyclists, with the Tour de France passing by most recently in 2013 and 2016. Ride from Tamié down to Lake Annecy, where the bicycle path winds around the lake. And of course, there is plenty of hiking to do!

In the winter, La Sambuy, Seythenex ski resort is just 15 minutes away, and the largest ski resorts in the world can be reached in within an hour's drive. Cross-country skiing is a 5-minute drive away, at the Foyer de Ski de Fond in Les Combes, Seythenex. Or, just outside your front door, strap on your snowshoes and wander through the snow-covered pastures for a moonlit walk.

My work: Glaces & Cows
Speaks English, French, Sign Language, and Spanish
We are a French-American family, living and working at the Col de Tamié. Nicolas was born and raised here on the farm, and Hilary left California to join him. We have two young children, ages 6 and 9, who love to play with the kids who come to stay! After milking our cows and making ice cream for 14 years, we recently sold the farm and now focus exclusively on ice cream, Glaces & Cows, but of course still with the milk of our former cows!
