FALL IN LOVE WITH NEW ENGLAND any time of year at our four season cottage in Litchfield County. Our waterfront home is on Connecticut's 76-acre Park Pond in the foothills of the Berkshires, with scenery and proximity to many activities.
The cottage has a great-room design with living and dining room all connected and offering views of the water. Sliding glass doors lead to a large deck. A barbeque grill is on the lower deck making it easy to cook and eat up on the deck or down on the beach. The lawn ends at our small grassy beach and dock.
On the first floor there is 1 bedroom with a queen bed, a new bathroom with tub/shower, and kitchen. The second floor has two more bedrooms with twin beds in each. There is a brand-new bathroom with generous sized-shower on the second floor.
Good airflow and ceiling fans in every bedroom maintain a comfortable temperature throughout the house. There is no air conditioning and none is needed. Forced air heat keeps the house toasty in winter.
Cable television and high-speed internet is available and you can watch DVDs on the color TV in living room and downstairs bedroom. A telephone is available for local, emergency and calling card calls.
Children are always welcome but their adults must understand that this property is on the water.
The house, garden, back deck, swimming pond, dock, kayaks, grill, and front parking lot are all for you to use and enjoy.
Interaction with Guests
You will not see me at this property but a caretaker and cleaning lady will see to your needs.
Litchfield County is classic Connecticut. Historic, beautiful, rural with rolling hills and water everywhere. There are a few other homes and two summer camps on the pond. Our street is quiet. Most homes are located within sight of the water. Its like our big, common, back yard. You will see our friendly neighbors as the homes are close but there is a surprising amount of privacy if that's what you prefer.
Four state forests are nearby and every drive is a scenic one. In winter, the pond is used for cross-country skiing, snow-mobiling, snow shoeing and ice fishing. Downhill skiing is 15 minutes driving distance from the house.
The town of Winsted, three miles away, offers many activities including antique and curio shops, festivals and community events, restaurants, wineries, go carts, batting cages, a free-public skate park, a multiplex movie theatre for everyone, and a dinner movie theater for adults.
This is a rural home and you will need a car. There is no public transportation available.
Other Things to Note
ACTIVITIES: Leaf-peep, nature and bird watch. Fish and kayak in the fall and spring. Snow shoe, ski, skate and ice fish in the winter. Swim, tube and kayak or canoe in the summer.
Our guests are encouraged to go "green" by being conservative in the use of water and soap. For this reason, the property is not appropriate for large parties. There is no dish or clothes washer.
Children must be watched at all times. We cannot accommodate pets or smokers.
Personal floatation devices (some are provided at the house) must be worn at all times when using the kayaks.
Check in is at 6pm and check out is 2 on weekends and 12 during the week. Check with us in the week prior to your stay if you would like to arrive earlier or depart later.
Please respect our neighbors and do not make loud noises after sunset or before sunrise.
This house is in the country which means you will see animals like chipmunks, mice, foxes and sometimes bears. If this bothers you, this may not be an appropriate place for you to stay.
The pond has an 8 mph speed limit. It is used mostly for recreational boating and fishing. In the winter there is ice fishing and sometimes if it is cold enough there may be snow mobilers.
The house uses a septic tank. Careful and judicious use of water and soap assures that the pond will remain clean and clear into the future.
While a professional cleaner will arrive on your departure day, you are expected to leave the home reasonably tidy, dishes washed, food removed and garbage emptied. Dirty sheets and towels should be placed in the basket for the housekeeper.
All adult guests will have to sign a waiver of liability before the key is sent.
We do not allow pets. Please do not ask.
This was our second stay at Christine's cottage on the pond. Everything was as expected, perfect. It was nice that Christine had the place shoveled and plowed out for us. This is even better than it looks in pictures with a view that could be enjoyed even though there was 2 feet of snow on the ground. They had everything we needed. All told this was mine and my co-workers 4th stay at one of Christine's properties. Each time she has been prompt, professional and a pleasure to work with.
Christine was an incredible host; extremely thoughtful and considerate. She was very responsive when we had questions regarding the property or when we needed any assistance. The cottage itself was beautiful, spacious and perfectly situated. We'd highly recommend staying here for anyone visiting the Litchfield County area.
The cottage was very cozy. Christine help me very much. And her instructions help us find everything we needed around the place.
The pictures and information were accurate. We used kayaks in the beautiful pond. Hike around the area. And had dinner on Torrington nice restaurant.
Thank you Christine.
We had a great time.
Great house in a secluded private area close enough to town if you need anything. We had a blast! Already planning our next trip back.
Christine and her husband's kindness cannot be overstated. In a nutshell I forgot the key to the house, which was sent to me, and they still made sure I was able to have access to the home. The property itself was just as advertised. The lake was picturesque and the home was clean. We had a great time kayaking, barbecuing, and fishing. As mentioned in the profile this is the country, so, make sure you bring insect repellent!
This was my first airbnb experience and I am hooked! I travel often for business and have been staying at hotels. They are scarce in the Torrington area! Myself and a coworker stayed at the lovely home on the lake. It was such a joy! The home was comfortable and had everything we needed. I can not wait to go back in the spring when the pond is thawed and we can sit on the deck. From the minute you walk in the house, you feel welcome and comfortable.
It was so nice to stay a close commute to Torrington. Making the arrangements was a breeze, Jim was very helpful.
Wonderful stay!! More than I expected!
We had a wonderful time staying here! Christine and her husband were great, thank you!

I am a writer, blogger and a published author of aviation-related books, a married woman in her mid fifties. I have four grown children. I live in Connecticut and travel about 6 months out of the year for work, usually on my own.
My first time using airbandb was in Abu Dhabi in 2011. It was a great experience. Since then I've used airbnb about 40 times as a guest all over the world. I enjoyed it so much that in 2012 I became an airbnb host at my home in a New York city suburb and also at 2 Berkshire Mountain vacation properties in Litchfield County, Connecticut.
When people "get it" that this is a home stay, not a hotel, the experience can be fantastic.
I have met some amazing people and stayed in some amazing homes. I am airbnb's biggest fan.
