We love being next to the beach in Santa Cruz, along with the many amenities we get to enjoy.
One of the requirements of operating Airbnb in Santa Cruz is the payment of Occupancy Tax. Please see the description of this in our Location summary.
This large beautiful Victorian on the "Riviera" of W. Cliff Drive is a landmark. Walk out the door to panoramic views reaching from Steamer's Lane to the wharf and Boardwalk. Walk a few blocks and you are at one of the many beaches along W. Cliff to watch world class surfers or try it yourself.
This large family house was designed to be reminiscent of houses we knew from Nantucket and the Cape. Built in 1999 it has modern amenities including a huge eat-in kitchen.
Downstairs bedroom with queen bed has a bathroom suite with a new walk in shower. Easy entry directly from the front door and privacy with ability to close off the bathroom and bedroom from the rest of the house.
Great porches on the front and back of the house provide space for leisurely enjoying the seaside pace.
Take a bike ride along the path on W. Cliff or head up to Wilder Ranch for a little local history. Walk or ride downtown to visit the small shops and restaurants, or take in a movie (Santa Cruz has over 18 screens showing everything from blockbusters to small indies).
Guests will have bedroom suite with adjacent private bathroom. The room has a small refrigerator. We have makings for coffee and water for tea in the morning. If you would like to store items in the house refrigerator or do any cooking, please be sure to check with us in advance. We have a busy household and the kitchen is the busiest spot in the house. Thanks.
Interaction with guests
We try to greet our guests personally, but we can accommodate flexible arrival times by giving them a key for access to get settled in if we are at work or elsewhere. We'll check in later. We give our guests as much privacy as they wish, and our most frequent encounters are in the kitchen as they grab coffee/tea, wine glasses, and other items to make their stay comfortable.
Other things to note
We are required to collect Occupancy Tax from our guests at the rate of 11%. Since Airbnb does not have a mechanism for this, we have tried to modify their existing template to include the tax as a "Cleaning Fee". This will allow us to separate the tax from the overall cost of the rental. We understand Airbnb may be fixing this next year, and appreciate your understanding.
If you would like to do any cooking, please be sure to make arrangements with us in advance. We have a busy household and the kitchen is the busiest spot in the house. Thanks.
No smoking allowed in the house, but you are welcome to smoke outside.

My husband and I and share this great house with our daughter who is a young adult and a single "boarder". My husband is Director of IT for one of the large divisions at UCSC, and I own my own company which provides commercial real estate development services for nonprofit organizations. I have an office in San Francisco and also work out of my home office in Santa Cruz a number of days per week.
We enjoy living in Santa Cruz with the beach across the street and the redwoods a short drive away. We appreciate the natural wonders every day and vow never to take them for granted.
