This large beautiful Victorian on the "Riviera" of W. Cliff Drive is a landmark. Walk out the door to panoramic views reaching from Steamer's Lane to the wharf and Boardwalk. Walk a few blocks and you are at one of the many beaches along W. Cliff to watch world class surfers or try it yourself.
This large family house was designed to be reminiscent of houses we knew from Nantucket and the Cape. Built only twelve years ago it has modern amenities including a huge eat-in kitchen.
Downstairs bedroom with queen bed has a bathroom suite with a new walk in shower. Easy entry directly from the front door and privacy with ability to close off the bathroom and bedroom from the rest of the house.
Great porches on the front and back of the house provide space for leisurely enjoying the seaside pace.
Take a bike ride along the path on W. Cliff or head up to Wilder Ranch for a little local history. Walk or ride downtown to visit the small shops and restaurants, or take in a movie (Santa Cruz has over 18 screens showing everything from blockbusters to small indies).
Guests will have bedroom suite with adjacent private bathroom. The room has a small refrigerator. We have makings for coffee and water for tea in the morning. If you would like to store items in the house refrigerator or do any cooking, please be sure to check with us in advance. We have a busy household and the kitchen is the busiest spot in the house. Thanks.
Interaction with Guests
We try to greet our guests personally, but we can accommodate flexible arrival times by giving them a key for access to get settled in if we are at work or elsewhere. We'll check in later. We give our guests as much privacy as they wish, and our most frequent encounters are in the kitchen as they grab coffee/tea, wine glasses, and other items to make their stay comfortable.
Completely walkable to downtown. The beach is a walk down the hill and cocktails/food on the wharf next to the beach. W. Cliff has natural beauty (ocean, sea lions, otters), the beach scene (surfers, paddle boarders, Boardwalk), as well as the services that make life easy (coffee, cafes). and the
Direct Bus Route to UCSC one block away. Other buses nearby
If you would like to do any cooking, please be sure to make arrangements with us in advance. We have a busy household and the kitchen is the busiest spot in the house. Thanks.
One of the best places to stay in all of Santa Cruz! The house is beautiful and very centrally located. It's right across the street from the ocean and great surf (Steamer Lane), within walking distance to downtown, the Boardwalk and many other local attractions. The suite is very cute and private with the added bonus that the bed and pillows were extremely comfortable and allowed for a great night sleep. We would definitely stay here again!
Also, when we arrived we were greeted by Kim who was very friendly and made us immediately feel comfortable and at home. She's very responsive and accommodating if you have any questions or need anything. Thanks Kim & Mike for making our stay a great one!
This place is such a gem. In terms of location, it doesn't get any better. I lived in Santa Cruz for many years while attending UCSC, so I knew that this was the best area to stay. It is across the street from the ocean and walkable to downtown, the boardwalk, the wharf, all of the beaches along West Cliff, and it is on the bus line to campus. We took full advantage of the location and the 75 degree weather by walking downtown to see some live jazz and then to the wharf for some dinner and drinks, followed by a morning jog along West Cliff to Natural Bridges and then a leisurely walk to some west side wineries for wine tasting.
The house itself is beautiful. It has all of the charm and character of an old Victorian but with modern conveniences. The room (it is actually more of a suite) is very private and quiet. It is right off the front entrance, so I never felt like I was intruding into someone home. And most importantly, the bed was really comfortable--the best sleep that we had during our entire CA trip were the two nights we spent at Kim and Mike's.
Overall, this was such a great experience. We will definitely stay here again the next time we are in the area.
Our stay with Kim and Mike was fantastic. The guest suite in their (beautiful!) house was very comfortable and private. Across the street are incredible views of Monterrey Bay, 5 minute walk to the boardwalk, 10 minute walk to downtown, we had a great time.
The host was very welcoming and informative. The description was very accurate and the neighborhood was premium. Location, location, location. AMAZING! This house was beautiful and ideal for an air b and b stay. The house is large. The downstairs room that we had was very private. We also used a common room that was near our private room. We felt at home.
This was a great location to stay at in Santa Cruz. It is really close to the beach/wharf and the boardwalk.
It is also an excellent location if you are participating in the Big Kahuna long course tri. It is close to Depot Park (transition area) and it is by the start of the bike and run courses.
We got excellent recommendations for lunch/dinner at 515 Kitchen and Cocktails plus Assembly.
The room was quiet and street noise was not an issue. The bed is comfortable.
A great place to stay
My sister and I stayed with Kim and Mike over this past weekend. Wow! I cannot say enough good things about this experience. The hosts were wonderful, the room, bathroom and bed were all fantastic. The bed was so comfortable and everything was very clean. The location couldn't have been better. We really lucked out in finding such a good place to stay. Thank you Kim and Mike for opening up your beautiful home to us.
What a beautiful house in a great location! We based ourselves here for a couple of days, enjoyed the boardwalk and seaside atmosphere, but also found it was a great spot for exploring the area since it's within easy reach of Monterey and Carmel and San Francisco. The room and ensuite bathroom was comfortable and gracious - everything we could have wished for. Mike and Kim were friendly and helpful, really making us feel at home in their lovely house.
Thanks, a real highlight of our trip.

My husband and I and share this great house with our daughter who is a young adult and a single "boarder". My husband is Director of IT for one of the large divisions at UCSC, and I own my own company which provides commercial real estate development services for nonprofit organizations. I have an office in San Francisco and also work out of my home office in Santa Cruz a number of days per week.
We enjoy living in Santa Cruz with the beach across the street and the redwoods a short drive away. We appreciate the natural wonders every day and vow never to take them for granted.
