This part of Melaka has a quaint old charm to it. Historically, the river at the back of the house was used by boats for the spice trade. The grounds of the old Javanese Village still remains across the river. The buildings along the river used to be go downs and redistribution stores for trade. One could take a walk, jog or dine at any of the restaurants and cafe's by the scenic river. A 20 minute walk along the river brings you to a the Melakan Morten Village. Trading on this street continues as wholesalers still operate in this neighbourhood. Temple street, Jonker (Night Market) Street, Heeren Streets, Stadhuys and historical sites are within 250 metres. Two prominent shopping complexes are within 20 minutes walk.
Most sites are within walking distance unless one wishes to go out of the old town area. There are busses via Sentral Melaka Bus station to the Zoo, Butterfly Park or family water theme park or from the Stadhuys to the Portuguese Settlement waterfront for an evening seafood dinner experience. Alternatively, we could assist to make arrangements for taxis. For guests who are driving, there are on street parking bays @RM0.60 per hour based on parking tickets from 8am-6pm Mon-Fri, 8am-1pm Sat and free on Sun. Thank your for your kind cooperation
We had a pleasant one night stay at River View Home. Mani was there when we arrived. She was very kind to offer us parking coupons for the next day. Her place is spacious and well maintained for our group of six. Mineral water and fresh towels were provided. The location is within walking distance to Jonker street and the historic site. Overall well recommended for any big group.
Everything was exactly as described. Mani, her husband and their staff were all super friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They even helped us out when we got parking tickets (our fault for parking on a yellow line, which we thought was allowed on a public holiday).
Their room service food was excellent and lazy breakfast was our favourite.
Our long weekend was over a national holiday period and the traffic and crowds at Jonker Street were extreme. This was not in any way the host's fault but I will avoid going to Malacca during a holiday in future.
Overall, I strongly recommend this listing if you want a very nicely renovated apartment in a great location in the heart of the historic city. Parking is not easy but, as stated above we were there at an extremely busy time.
I can't imagine how the hosts could improve. They are outstanding.
The apartment was very nice, clean and centrally located. It is within walking distance to the Jonker Walk night market and all other major tourist attractions. Mani, her husband and the staff at the cafe (that Mani and her husband run and which is conveniently located downstairs from the apartment) were very friendly and helpful.
Nice place. Good position.
Very helpful in the café downstairs, who delivered hot chips up to our room for our kids!
Lovely and comfortable apartment which was quite conveniently located - only a short walk to Jonker Street sights. The driving instructions given were great - we got there quickly, without getting lost. Check-in was quick and easy, we just had to ask one of the staff at the River View Cafe. We also appreciated the complimentary bottles of water - about six 1.5l bottles, if I recall - very generous indeed. There was also a helpful little map of Malacca detailing some of the sights and places to eat at. Overall, we enjoyed our stay here. One small area for improvement would be cleanliness. The apartment was generally clean, but one or two areas were not as clean as expected. But on the whole, it was a good apartment that would be comfortable for a large group of people (up to 6, I believe).
Very tastefully done up home. Experience was beyond what we expected. Location is very convenient, all attractions are a 5 min walk away. Nothing like enjoying a cup of tea in the balcony overlooking the river. I loved the cafe on the ground level. The staff is super helpful ( special mention for Ben) and the food is awesome. DO NOT miss the Nasi Lemak Kukus Beef Rendang, it is by far the best Rendang I've had. I would highly recommend travelers to try the restaurant ( even if you don't get a room booking). All in all i loved the place, look forward to going back.
About the Host, Mani
After serving in the hotel and travel industry for 17 years, my backpacker husband and I decided to run our own guesthouses. This is our 3rd venture in the old town of Melaka and we aspire to provide comfortable stays for small groups of travellers and families in The River View Home.
