About This Listing
The 'apartment', back of my home with separate entrance, is in a quiet street. Enjoy room to spread, short walk to corner shops/restaurants, easy access to Top Ryde shops, Sydney city, Macquarie Uni, Ryde TAFE, Ryde Hospital, train stations, buses.
The apartment, really better described as a granny flat, opens onto a screened area and then a garden, the view of which from the living room creates a feeling of spaciousness and calm. As well as the main bedroom with two beds, there is an additional outdoor studio/single bedroom available to guests who need it. Guests are encouraged to discuss this facility before booking. Guests also need to be aware that there are limited kitchen facilities. Although there is a number of appliances, including a microwave oven in the kitchenette/laundry and an electric BBQ in the screened area, those people wishing to do lots of cooking will find some difficulty because of a lack of stove top and oven. Further, in the kitchenette/laundry there is no fan. (There are three popular take-out eating places just a five minute walk away at Midway shopping centre).
Guests have access to, and exclusive use of, everything pictured. You are able to eat meals inside or in the screened area and enjoy the garden. The clothesline is available for washing if required.
The kitchenette/laundry contains a washing machine as well as microwave, fridge and other electric appliances- an electric frypan, toaster, jug, and two person coffee plunger. An electric BBQ is available in the screened area. There is a hairdryer, iron and small ironing board. I can provide toys for a young child if required.
Interaction with Guests
I do not expect to interact greatly with guests. I am available from late afternoon on most days and live in the front of the house which is quite separate.
This is a very friendly neighbourhood where people know and support each other. The address is about 2 km from both Top Ryde City and Eastwood, both of which have vibrant shopping areas and restaurants which are popular in the evening. Mid-way, a small shopping area is a five minute walk from the house. There you will find a Thai and an Italian restaurant, a take-away chicken shop, pharmacy, medical centre, small grocer, fruit shop, butcher, liquor store and a dry-cleaner.
There is very accessible public bus transport to Top Ryde, Eastwood and Macquarie Shopping Centres as well as Macquarie University and Train Station. The centre of Sydney can be accessed by buses which are a three to five minute walk from the house or train from West Ryde, Eastwood or Macquarie stations. Ryde Aquatic Centre is twenty minutes away by bus. Olympic Park is best served by car in 15-20 minutes - public transport to there takes about an hour.
Other Things to Note
Macquarie University and Ryde TAFE College are relatively close. Sydney Olympic park, venue of many events, is only a few kilometres away. Ryde Hospital is within walking distance (10-15 minutes) and Macquarie University Hospital just a short drive.
Guests are asked to respect the quiet, family neighbourhood and not to smoke in the apartment.
It was very nice for Mary to Greet us and showing us around the house. My car was broken down and Mary showed her compassion about this incident. She offered me to stay her place for extra night for free if we couldn't go back to home. We appreciate Mary's kindness and generosity. The communication with Mary was very smooth. The house and facility is very clean and the utility is available. I would recommend the future customer.
Mary made me feel welcome even before I arrived. The place is exactly as described but much homier, feel at peace there with the garden you only view. As I am not fond of Sydney it really felt nothing like being in the city, easy to navigate to shops and eateries. Thankyou Mary for making it easy to be in Sydney.
The good point is that the landlord will provide some snacks and juice for welcoming the tenant. The weakpoint is that we are concerned that we were scared by the big roach and groups of ants in the kitchen. Therefore we moved out earlier than planned. And a kind advice is that please remember if you move in, you may take photos everywhere in the house to keep evidence.Otherwise after you leave the landlord will always call you and tell you that she can't find some goods you may never see before. There is possibility that you are suspected without evidence and be asked to pay for it.
Fan I am sorry everything wasn't quite as you had hoped it would be. My request to you to check for any of my possessions was made because I do value the items I leave in the accommodation and there had already been some confusion. At no stage did I accuse you of wrongdoing though and I am sorry if that is how you interpreted my request.
Best wishes for your future life in Australia
We had a very comfortable stay here. There is a lovely garden and outdoor area. The street is nice and quiet.
Thank Mary for her kind accommodation.
We feel like at home and enjoy beautiful and quiet environment. My daughter really likes the garden and parks nearby. Many surprise, such as children's toy, kitchen's stuff and so on. We really appreciate Mary's considerate arrangement and would like to recommend it to others, especially families.
Mary was very welcoming, without intruding. Everything we could possibly want was provided from nice linen and towels to a variety of breakfast goodies. Very convenient for local and larger shops and a truly lovely garden, so quiet and cool on a very very humid Sydney weekend. Just like staying with friends. Three very satisfied customers.
Mary made us feel very welcome, communication was excellent. The accommodation was exactly as described.
About the Host, Mary
I am a working professional - in education. I traveled lots when I was young and am interested in other people - where they have been and where they are going. I have thoroughly enjoyed welcoming guests from both Australia and overseas to my comfortable 'granny flat' style apartment which is very suitable for small children as well as adults. These days my main focus is family, with occasional trips abroad.
