Geodesic Dome located in Kapa'a, private entrance, outdoor kitchen and enclosed bathroom with a lovely tub to soak in after an adventurous day cruising the island. We are located less than a mile from an epic East side beach and Kapa'a town.
Have you ever been in a Dome? 20 foot diameter structure with Tropical Vinyl Canvas that protects from the elements. Very cool for the adventurous type that enjoys the path less traveled. Enjoy the stary night from the Trek Deck or from the bathtub!
When you stay in the dome you will have your privacy and a relaxing space to come home to after exploring the island.
Interaction with Guests
Interaction with Host is individual to each guest, the dome is your personal get away, and although the hosts live on property, we will honor your privacy. If you need suggestions or a host to go adventuring we are open to that too!
We are located walking distance (under 1 mile) to Kapa'a town, and awesome Kealia Beach. If you are hungry Kapa'a has some of the best restaurants on island. The dome is nestled in a valley that although close to town feels hidden from the world.
The county bus has a stop close to the address, possible airport pick up and drop off too! Many people hitchhike around the isalnd successfully. The county bus will pick you up most places if you call ahead : (phone number hidden)
Other Things to Note
Although the Dome is enclosed, sometimes the rain and Roosters get loud. If your sensitive bring earplugs. Kauai also has mosquitoes year round. I recommend bringing a bug repellent of your choice :) Also Sunrise is around 7:00am and the dome is East facing therefore the mornings are better spent on the deck. The Dome is adjacent an empty lot and a couple times a year the county cuts the grass down and sometimes people drive in the field. Thought I should mention just in case. Overall the dome is in a natural setting recommended for those who enjoy a path less traveled.
Malama aina (take care/respect the island). Please let the host know if there is any questions you have or anything we can do to help make your Island adventuring Awesome.
Adam and Amalia, and their kids were great hosts. They were happy to help us when needed and totally respected our privacy. The dome was awesome, and as expected based on reading reviews. We were surprised that they had ear plugs, shampoos etc. there for you as well as bug spray (that we never needed, the mosquitos weren't bad and we let the spiders live). We're from Oahu and we were shocked how many spiders were around. We were formally introduced to The Huntsman (cane spider) and that was quite the experience. Any spider big enough to produce eye glare in photos is a no go for me lol. The only negative experience we had here was with the cat. On the first day I woke up to Mingming climbing through the back of the dome and ONTO MY FACE. Surprise! haha. The second morning we had an early trip scheduled so we'd cooked bacon and boiled eggs to bring with us the night before and when I pulled it out in the morning, I turned around for one second and the cat pulled the bacon off the counter and was eating it on the ground :( Over all, we had a great time, the dome was the exact environment we were looking for and we would definitely recommend it to our family and friends...BEWARE THE MINGMING :)
Great place to stay! Got to experience fresh air & the natural world while still having most creature comforts. The dome is spacious and lovely, and there's a lot you can make foodwise in the kitchen setup. We were visited regularly by Ming Ming (a very sweet and friendly cat who will try to taste your dinner if you are not careful) as well as 2 other neighbor cats. Though there are spiders around the campsite, none of them were inside the dome itself (and there are no poisonous spiders on the island anyhow, so all harmless). We saw several lizards & geckos, as well as a few different types of birds (mostly doves and the ever present chickens). Temperature of the shower was a bit dodgy at times, but hot water would come with patience (though considering it is Hawaii, you really don't need hot water much of the time). Location was great too - was a short drive (or long walk) away from Kapaa which had a range of good local restaurants.
We were really excited about the Epic Dome from pictures, but in person it far exceeded our expectations. The dome is tranquil and we loved to get up early for a cup of tea and breakfast on the private deck while planning our activities for the day.
Amalia was a great host. The space felt like it was totally our own, but she left explicit instructions that covered any potential questions, and anything that we didn't have -- bug spray, guide books, etc. -- was there. She was also extremely quick to respond to any questions we had via text.
That all being said, the dome isn't for everyone. If you are looking for a silent, vanilla hotel room, this isn't for you. This is a tented studio apartment. You may get a mosquito bite or two, and you will hear roosters early in the morning, but if you enjoy nature and are looking for a one-of-a-kind Kauai experience, we highly recommend it. We left well-rested and refreshed. We would definitely stay here again.
We had an unforgettable experience staying at the Epic Dome. I would highly recommend this to anyone and everyone! It was comfortable both in rain and sunshine. Amalia and her family were very friendly and welcoming. They gave us beach towels when we didn't have any and directed us to the best nearby beaches. It was a great experience for a non-camper who wants to edge their way into camping.
We had an AMAZING time staying at Amalia's and wish we could have stayed the whole week, but it was the perfect stopping before hiking the Kalalau trail. Every detail showed how much care Amalia put into creating a place that was a beautiful blend with nature. She was the friendliest host, giving us recommendations for where to think about snorkeling during the day. I would stay at the Epic Dome in a heartbeat and this time hopefully for more than just 2 days! Thank you Amalia for helping us with the perfect start to an amazing vacation.
The epic dome was a lovely glamping experience! I stayed here 3 nights with my partner, this has everything you could need. We loved the outdoor kitchen and the small table inside the dome. It was very relaxing and very central to the beaches and shops ( I would suggest getting a hire car on the island). We didn't actually get to properly meet the host, however there was a very friendly cat that was around each day and slept on our bed the last night as the weather was pouring with rain outside. The dome is exactly like the pictures and as many other reviews have mentioned that there are a lot of roosters - this actually didn't bother us too much and there are earplugs provided if you need them. Overall it was a fantastic place to stay :)
The epic dome was an amazing experience. I took my mother for her 60th birthday to spend a week in Kauai. When searching accommodations I came across this listing and asked mom if she would be ok with an alternative accommodation. When she checked the site and read the info, she was excited. I didnt think she would go for it but she did and we are both glad we stayed. It was private, clean and the host family was great. Any requests were promptly filled. Kauai did hit some suprisingly low temperatures in the evenings which made for some chilly nights but the dehumidifier helped keep the chill off. The qater temperature in the shower/tub was a bit spotty. But it did force me to take a bath which was out of the norm for me and I really enjoyed the relaxing. My fiance and I plan on coming back to the dome next May for our 1 year wedding anniversary. Great location in Kauai too. Kapaa is centrally located and has a nice vibe to the town.
Originally from Santa Rosa CA, I moved to Hawaii in 2002 because I love the tropics. I love creating art and positive relationships. I've been married for 9years and we have 2 wild children that keep us busy and entertained. We both are into the healing arts and made a Dome on the Hillside to practice yoga and massage in. I now work at a fancy resort doing massage and also at an incredible luau fire dancing my character is a Dragon woman, I studied Nursing and one day when I'm grown up maybe I'll be a Nurse Midwife. I love jumping into waterfalls and basking in the sun, in the past my style of travel was backpack minimalist, now I'm starting to enjoy more eclectic dwellings. Being a hostess with Airbnb is a new adventure that allows me to share a creative project with people who are looking for and edge in the circle.
