Enjoy the magical atmosphere of that beautiful Colonial style home. The house is artistically custom made designed, with handmade furniture and luxurious materials, beautifully set in a lush tropical garden at just a couple of minutes to the clear blue waters and white sanded beach of Playa Chiquita.
The villa is about 200 m2 and has three bedrooms, up to 5 people. It has a spacious living room opened to a fully equipped kitchen and the garden. Two bedrooms have queen size bed and the other one has an individual bed. The two spacious bathroom (hot water shower) have unique mosaic designed.
You are invited to relax in the hammock or in the sofa while contemplating the garden. You will discover an incredible variety of trees, plants and flowers with so many colors, while listening to the sounds of the jungle. Toucans, sloth, monkeys and a lots of bird will accompany you during your stay at Casa Colonial.
From the villa it is also just minutes to a couple of nice restaurants with a variety of local and international dishes and a supermarket for the daily groceries.
Our family of five stayed here for 2 weeks and it was wonderful. Paola greeted us warmly and was always available to help with suggestions for excursions and restaurants. The beach is down the drive (hill) and along a path - easy. We biked to other close by beaches. The home is close to grocery, restaurants and the beach but quietly set in a lovely diverse garden. On rainy days we happily lounged in the outside living areas and watched wildlife while we read - perfect.
MAGIC in Puerto Viejo! Paola's property is exquisite, magical and inspirational. With it's amazing open-air floor-plan, you really feel like you are camping but with such sophistication and style in an old-world house. The house is filled with hidden treasures from around the world, and the garden is an even bigger treasure with fruit trees, hummingbirds, bats, monkeys, agouti and sloths. Very large rooms, and lots of space. We also really liked the location in Playa Chiquita. Not too far from the action, but just far enough to find some private spots and beach. We had a fantastic two week stay in Playa Chiquita. Although we traveled during the rainy season, we couldn't have been happier to be lounging around on those rainy days in such a beautiful Colonial House.
Paola is a joyous and spirited person who loves her work and area. She really shines! Gracias!!

This house is even better than the pictures. Gorgeous living area is completely open air while the bedrooms all have their own doors to come outside. Waking up and having a cup of tea we saw hummingbirds and agouti in the yard every morning. There is also a friendly cat that hangs out outside all of the time. The location is really prime; set back away from the main road but close enough to walk anywhere you need.
The actual beach of Playa Chiquita is gorgeous and secluded, you can absolutely walk along the beach and find a spot where no one else is. The walkway to the beach is a trail surrounded by huge trees that house howler monkeys and sloths. Just down the road from the house is a place called La Botanica Organica which is a veggie cafe that serves fresh and delicious food and drink (ginger lemonade!!)
Paola was a lovely and energetic host, she arranged for us to be picked up and taken to the house when we got there and when we met her she immediately showed us around the garden, telling us to take our fill of what the fruit trees in the yard had to offer (coconut, rambutan aka mamonchino in CR, and various citrus). She has plenty to recommend for places to go and things to do - hiking, kayaking, ziplining, etc. There are good beach hikes nearby (Punta Uva and Punta Mano), and renting a bike for $5/day will get you anywhere you need to go.
If you want to sit back and enjoy the Caribbean lifestyle, this place is perfect, we loved it!
This house is incredible! All 3 bedrooms are huge and the bathrooms are very nice. The woodwork throughout is amazing. The whole house feels like a work of art. The outdoor living area was exactly what we were looking for. Waking up and walking outside and enjoying the garden were perfect starts to our day. My girlfriend and I spent 3 nights here and we loved it. Paola was a great host and gave us recommendations on where to eat and nightlife. She lives just down the road and was available for whatever we needed. The house itself is up a slight hill but very easy to get to great beaches. It’s about a 5 minute drive to the hustle of Puerto Viejo but the privacy and quiet were perfect for us. There were also some incredible restaurants within a kilometer of the house. Pura Gula was our favorite! All in all, we were more than impressed with the house. It was amazing and we would definitely stay here when we return to Costa Rica.
Paola was such a wonderful hostess, and gave us all kinds of local information when we arrived. Staying at this home is like camping in a museum. The kitchen was outside and the critters loved it when it was dinner time. This home was designed by the owner (Paola's Dad) and was really beautiful. The art collection was amazing. Everyday I discovered something new to admire and look at.
