A beautiful house, with many custom touches, sitting in an exotic green expanse of trees and flowers- very relaxing! We enjoyed our week there fully!!! We would only suggest some upgrades to the kitchen and full access to the laundry, especially the dryer, considering the humid climate.

I strongly recommend this location, it is a down hill walk to the beach, but the beach that you walk to is absolutely beautiful. I fell in love with this beach which is what I was mostly looking forward too... also Puerto Viejo is definitely one of the most laid back towns I've ever visited, food was great everywhere specially Koke Beach Rest. The house was everything you see in the pictures and more. The art in the house is phenomenal. I do recommend that you come prepared with bug spray!!

Set within a beautifully maintained garden setting deep in the forest, Casa Colonial is an architectural delight! The 'inside-out' configuration means you're really living 'with' the surrounding forest and it's many amazing creatures. It might not suit everyone's taste but we really enjoyed the direct exposure to nature in a comfortable and secure home. The furnishings and decorations collected from around the world also add a really unique touch. The kitchen could use a modest refresh but we've alerted the owners and I'm sure this will be addressed. The location near Playa Chiquita is, in our opinion, ideal. Close to several excellent restaurants (DIVO highly recommended) and a well stocked store, it's secluded but only a short bike ride away Playa Cocles and Peurto Viejo. You're also close to some of the most beautiful, nearly empty, beaches we've ever visited anywhere in the world. Overall a highly recommended rental in a really special, largely undeveloped part of Costa Rica.

This place was very beautiful. A true gem in Playa Chaquita. Accommodating to a later than expected arrival, and has plenty of fresh drinking water, clean towels and help with questions when ever needed. The back yard was magnificent , so much beauty in the plant life and wild life. Also, peaceful to fall asleep to the sounds of a private jungle orchestra playing outside the windows and doors of the bedroom. Unique pieces of art and sculpture and literature all around. Felt very safe and close enough for a short drive to the next town and into puerto Viejo. I loved the yoga studio / retreat just down the hill from the residence, Tierra de yoga. Yoga every morning at 9 am. I ended up taking a longer than expected walk to a bakery in Cocles, but it was well worth it and in the pouring rain ! A local man on a quad generously offered me a ride back. We never rented bikes but I think that would be a good thing to do to get around. A beautiful beach , almost private was just a short walk down a path just to the right coming out of the lodge. Beautiful. The only disappointments we had were in the weather not permitting for sea activities such as snorkeling , kayaking ,dolphin seeing , as offered as activities. Also, we did not know about the water restriction at a certain time during each day , and were thrown off a bit the first day we had no running water. But, was well explained to us in a helpful manner and we were actually grateful for the back up tanks as 6 of us all together became more conscious of our use and how the people in and around playa chaquita take care of reserving water. Take time to do some exploring around. There is a national park and lots of beauty along the coast. There is a wild life rescue/ sanctuary not far with a beautiful back story and animals that are being taken care of and safely introduced back into the wild. If you're looking for a nice place to eat some of our favorites were the bakery in cocles , Punta y Pasta for pizza , insalta mista, and pasta, also the bakery in puerto Viejo had yummy donuts and pineapple smoothies. (Pina and water , perfect ) also , chille rojo with a nice selection for vegetarian. All of Paolas places I looked at seemed wonderful and definitely felt able to relax and enjoy the beauty all around.

The colonial house was amazing. Very comfortable place. We enjoyed cooking in the open kitchen while watching agouti roaming the grounds and howler and capuchin monkeys play in the trees. An easy walk to one of the most beautiful beaches, Playa Chiquita and a well stocked store, El Duende Gourmet. The are also several restaurants nearby. I would highly recommend staying at the colonial house

This was a fantastic stay. The house is a good 5 minutes to the south of Puerto Viejo, which was ideal considering the congestion in town. I will try to paint a picture... you wake up to birds and monkeys rustling in the trees. The rain forest surrounds the home and you'll spend hours simply staring at how beautiful the landscape is our your backdoor. Hop in your car, and the beach is only a few minutes away. It's a little piece of heaven with few people, warm water and stunning views. Our group enjoyed cooking in the outdoor kitchen while playing cards on the patio, drink in hand. Everything the body needs!

One word - Amazing! We loved beautiful Casa Colonial and its tropical paradise gardens. It's even better than the photos, full of antiques and art from around the world. There was a huge and comfortable bed in the master bedroom as well as two further bedrooms for the kids. We really enjoyed lying in the hammock watching the humming birds, morpho butterflies, and funny agoutis. I'd say it's probably best to have a car if you stay here with young kids as walking up and down the hill is tiring in the heat. Also you'll need it to drive to Punta Uva beach which is safest swimming beach for kids. Our host Nicolas, his daughter Paula and house manager, Maeva, we're all incredibly kind and helpful. We will be back!
