The space
Highland Cottage: Your Serene Rustic Retreat in the North State
Discover authentic country charm in this 400 sq ft Mid-Century Modern studio guesthouse; a true gem tucked away on a hillside along a quiet rural road.
Cozy up on the upper sleeping loft with a plush memory foam mattress topped in soft cotton sheets. In winter, the wood-burning stove creates an inviting ambiance; in every season, stay perfectly comfortable with the mini-split AC/ heater.
Downstairs, relax in the open lower level with soaring high ceilings, beautiful stained glass accents, and panoramic windows framing garden views. Your dry bar is thoughtfully equipped: microwave, mini fridge, Keurig coffee maker, electric kettle, cups, and wine glasses; ideal for simple meals or evening unwinding.
Note: in keeping with the rustic feel this charming older building has no running water inside the cottage. Your private bathroom is just 15 steps away in the detached mud room/laundry area (separated by a closed door from the main house), featuring a spacious stall shower, sink, and toilet.
Enjoy modern comforts like a Vizio smart TV with HDMI for streaming hundreds of movies, shows, and music, plus a hypoallergenic setup with an air purifier for clean, fresh air.
The new redwood deck offers serene outdoor living with 2 comfortable aderondak chairs, market lights, a gas fire pit and shade umbrella. This private deck boasts a huge piece of sky for stargazing, plenty of shade for afternoon lounging and great outdoor living.
Perfectly positioned at the top of the Sacramento Valley, you’re minutes from endless outdoor adventures: boating, fishing, kayaking, and paddleboarding on Lake Shasta or Whiskeytown Lake; hiking and mountain biking trails galore; Lassen National Park and Mount Shasta just an hour away; pickleball courts nearby in Shasta Lake or in Redding.
The cottage sits privately at the back of the main house, fully fenced and gated for seclusion, with off-street parking inside the gate.
This peaceful, character-filled escape is ideal for quiet getaways, remote work, or recharging in nature. (Not suitable for any animals, including service animals, due to family allergies.)

Fireplace use is limited to November through April. One Duraflame log is provided, please do not use the firewood.
We keep indoor spaces pet free for our guests with allergies.

• Street parking is very limited, please use the designated spot inside our gated driveway for easy, secure access.
• Parking is available for full-size pickup trucks, but no oversized vehicles (e.g., RVs, trailers) thank you for planning accordingly.
• Please stay on the driveway; no driving or parking on the grass to keep our rural property pristine.
Boating at Nearby Digger Bay Marina
Digger Bay Marina is just ~3 miles away at the end of the road, perfect for lake adventures!
• Boat launch and trailer parking: $25/day (subject to availability and current rates).
• Moorage/slips: $50/day (availability varies, check directly with the marina).

As a peaceful countryside spot, we maintain regular pest control and deep-clean between guests, but occasional insects are part of the natural charm. We appreciate your understanding!
