Immerse yourself in nature in this tranquil, jungle hide-away, just a 3 minute walk to a breathtaking beach, Playa Negra. Enjoy peace and quiet, yet have access with a 5 minute walk, to the charming town of Puerto Viejo, - cute shops, great restaurants and and a lively night life.

Hidden Jungle Beach House: where nature lovers can socialize around the kitchen table or enjoy solitude in a quiet spot on a hammock.
You fall asleep to the sound of the waves and wake to the chattering of a million tropical birds.

Hidden Jungle Beach House is a typical Caribbean style wooden house with three levels. The kitchen is on the first floor. The bedrooms are on the second. And the third floor is my room, I'm the owner, Lisa, and I live here, too.

The first floor kitchen is spacious and open, with jungle all around. The grocery store is only a short jaunt away so you can buy what you need and cook it here. The SHARED BATHROOM with a hot shower is on the first floor.

The second floor of Hidden Jungle Beach House has four SMALL bedrooms and a living room with cable TV and an outdoor porch. It also has a SHARED BATHROOM with a sink and a toilet. The bedrooms are simple and small. Three bedrooms have double beds and one has a single. Each room has a place to hang your clothes and shelves, desk or table, screened windows and a fan, along with clean sheets and towels.

We are a simple place: The windows have screens; NO AIR CONDITIONING just fans and jungle breezes. We love animals. We have two German shepherds (and a cat) to guard the house and entertain the guests. Smoking cigarettes is allowed only outdoors in the yard.

Hidden Jungle Beach House is truly Puerto Viejo’s hidden treasure. You’ll love it’s relaxed and friendly vibes. You’ll sleep cozy and comfortable in the arms of mother nature. You’ll wake up to the sounds of howler monkeys, cute little geckos and a million different kinds of colorful birds.

Helpful suggestions on where to go and what to do are provided by your delightful host, me! I have lived on Costa Rica’s Caribbean for 8 years and can give you lots of good advice.

If you are looking for a simple, economical place to stay in the quiet tranquility of the jungle but close to all the activity, Hidden Jungle Beach House is the place for you.

Interaction with guests

I am Lisa, the owner, and I live here in Hidden Jungle Beach House with my husband, Christian. We are most always around - accessible for questions or help.

I'm a writer with a website telling you all about my experiences living in Costa Rica for seven years. I'll give you all the details on your options to get here from the airport, along with photos and instructions. I can book your transportation and I also offer personal guide service. Once you have made your reservation, Airbnb will allow me to give you the link to my website.

When you arrive we'll show you around the house. And I am happy to give guidance or recommendations and help you find what you need.

Other things to note

IF YOU HAVE A CAR: If you are coming by car, please let me know at the time you make your reservation. Parking is limited so I have to make sure there is space for you. Thanks!

DOGS: We have one cat and two German Shepherd guard dogs. They are very sweet. The dogs do not bite. But they do bark to protect the property from intruders. When you arrive the dogs and cat will greet you as part of the family. Most all of my guests love our pets and the pets love the guests as well. Our dogs are not allowed inside the house. They stay in the yard and sleep on the ground floor outdoor patio. The patio is a a central part of our place, with chairs and a hammock for our guests. And most are happy to share the space with the dogs. We bathe and brush the dogs regularly and do our best to keep the patio clean. Our dogs are well trained and essential for the security or our property. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE DOGS, OUR HOME MAY NOT BE THE BEST CHOICE FOR YOUR VISIT.

NOISE: We are in the jungle yet 1 minute from the beach and only 5 minutes from the town of Puerto Viejo. You'll always hear the waves. And now and then, especially on weekends and holidays you'll hear the sounds of the village coming through the jungle - music from the bars and some traffic on the road.

There are NO LAUNDRY FACILITIES available here, however there are lines to hang wet clothes. And there is laundry service available nearby.

I stayed with Lisa and Christian for 5 nights at their home in Puerto Viejo. My experience was great, especially considering the price. They run a clean, well-organized, artistic home, and have taken steps to make sure that everyone is comfortable and has room for their stuff when there are multiple travelers staying and using the bathrooms and kitchen. They've thought of lots of details that make your trip easier, like automatic lights by the key holes on outside doors to help if you're coming home after dark. Lisa and Christan are both very friendly and eager to help guests really enjoy their stay, including a map of points of interest in town, and information about nearby attractions like a cocoa plantation and a wildlife rescue center. The location is great. It's a quick walk to the beach (about 3 minutes) and to the town (about 8 minutes), but it's also at the edge of the jungle so you see colorful birds, butterflies, lizards, and occasionally sloths! It was a great stay at a great price, and I hope I get the chance to return!

Lisa and Christian are amazing hosts. The house is so close to the black sand beach, and right at the tip of a a great stretch for biking and seeing a lot of the area. Some really great stuff to do in the area too, and the beaches were amazing. The house is super cute, clean, safe and quiet. The sound of the sea while you sleep and being able to hear howler monkeys in the morning are a bonus. Every excursion I had knew exactly where to pick me up. If you get a chance, definitely stay here. Plus Christian pointed out some sloths (a momma and a baby) on their property. I'm glad I chose this spot.

This is a lovely, secluded, yet walkable location in Puerto Viejo. It is surrounded by jungle allowing for nature viewing right from the balcony or your window. Lisa and Christian were very accommodating and had very well equipped kitchen/common areas. You can tell a lot of thought was put into little things around the house to give guests a comfortable stay. I would definitely recommend staying here!

The Hidden Jungle Beach house is the perfect place if you're looking to have some peace and quiet, but also want to be close to all of the action in Puerto Viejo. The black sand beach is a 1-2 minute walk, and you can walk to Puerto Viejo in 5 minutes. The space itself is lively and bright, and has everything you need to be comfortable. Lisa and Christian were both very friendly and helpful!

I’m Lisa Valencia, a writer and Costa Rica guide who has lived in Costa Rica’s Caribbean since 2007. I opened Hidden Jungle Beach House in 2011, running my guest house alone for 3 years. Then Cristian Montenegro came into my life and has been working with me here for the past three years. We got married in November 2016. So now at our place you have two hosts - one North American and one Nicaragua/Costa Rican.

We both believe in following our dreams and living life to the absolute fullest. And always encourage others to do the same. Many of our guests come here looking for more than a vacation. They use their time here in nature, away from the stress of the "civilized" world to ponder and reflect on their choices in life. Some go back to their lives with renewed energy and enthusiasm. Some discover a new way to live. And some don't go back at all!

Cristian and I are thankful, grateful and appreciative of every aspect of our life here - including our guests. Cristian will show you sloths and iguanas in the trees around the property. He'll tell you stories about the little agoutis who come eat our compost and the time we had a snake for a neighbor. I'll share the story of my discovery of a new life in Costa Rica. And I look forward to hearing your story and encouraging your Costa Rica dreams to come true!
