Beautiful and charming 1-bedroom villa in Penastanan, the most popular Ubud neighborhood for expats and visitors to stay. Penastanan is a 5 min motorbike or taxi ride away from the loud streets of central Ubud, nestled in idyllic and beautiful rice fields, also situated among the warmth of traditional Balinese people living nearby.
Private with lush green gardens, but only 6 minutes from the streets of Penestanan (and famous raw food bar and hangout, Alchemy). If you stay 2.5 weeks or longer, I can give you a discount.
HIGH SPEED WIFI (the fastest I have found in Ubud for residence). A/C, beautiful hot-water outdoor shower and bath. Lotus pond, twice weekly cleaning included. Simple breakfast (tea, fruit salad, pancakes) can be made at home for you by cook for roughly $5/person per day.
The villa is an 6 minute walk (or a 3 minute motorbike ride) from the famous raw food juice bar/hangout/restaurant Alchemy (on the main street in Penastanan). Penastanan is more like a small village/suburb of Ubud, close to a handful of lovely restaurants and shops, but still retaining very local Balinese culture. It is incredibly safe and beautiful.
**Please note the MAP view of my house is inaccurate and I cannot manually change it. Because most places in Ubud to not have actual addresses, I cannot put down an address so the map just chooses a random place in Ubud! The map shows my location as a completely different neighborhood, FYI.
About the house:
1 bedroom villa with extremely large bedroom, Queen size bed, new mosquito netting, A/C, large ceiling fan, huge indoor/outdoor bathroom. Large tub along with sink and toilet in the 'indoor' part and the beautiful outdoor shower complete with orchids and plants. Full cleaning twice weekly by the owners (who are like family to me, and the sweetest people ever), complete with fresh flowers! Sheets changed once a week.
This place is surrounded by lush greenery, banana leaf, flowers, and a beautiful coy pond with incredible lotus flowers that spring up every night.
The living area and kitchen is indoor/outdoors like almost all Balinese homes. You can sit on a beautiful plush daybed/sofa or relax at the small table for eating meals or having tea. The kitchen has everything you need, a large refrigerator, toaster oven, rice cooker, tea kettle, pans/pots, cooking oils, everything you need to have a comfortable stay!
The energy of this place is incredible, and the best part is that all the neighbors (Balinese and expats) are so helpful with anything you need. The area is completely safe. I walk home alone every night and run into random people and never think for a second about my safety. The locals and Balinese treat each other like family in Ubud. The neighbors, Mini and Made (Mini speaks English) live on site so they are like on-site security.
Wayan, the owner, comes every day to do offerings to the small house temple (all Balinese homes have small temples) and you are welcome to join him. If you want your privacy, you can let Wayan know a good time that works for you for him to come (usually he comes between 6 and 7 pm for about 25 minutes, but feel free to let him know what works best).
You are a 6 minute walk to the famous Alchemy, Kue Bakery, Warung Mendez, Bubu's cafe, Sari Organik (newer one, not the original), Round Bar (salsa on Thursdays), Brahma Kumaris meditation center, a local Indian restaurant, other quaint restaurants and shops that make this little neighborhood so adorable. Yellow Flower Cafe is a walk on the path in the opposite direction from Alchemy, amazing food and tucked away in the rice fields, away from most tourists.
Life is slower and peaceful here, you will find a friendly face anywhere you go. It is just a 6 minute motorbike ride from Penastanan Kaja and Cafe Vespa (more local Balinese area with some expat and tourist hangouts).
Wifi: I pay a hefty amount every month to have very fast Wifi, the fastest you can get. It's amazing! Not common in Ubud.
No pool, but you can use the D'omah hotel pool & grounds a 6 minute walk away for $4 per person. Also some really luxurious pools for a small fee to use in Ubud that are open to the public for a small fee (Ubud Hanging Gardens, etc.)
Room for 2-3 motorbikes in front to park. This house is NOT accessible by car. When you arrive, I will have arranged for you someone to pick you up and take you and your bags to the house so you do not have to worry about finding the place.
Please ONLY take a motorbike down the path if you are comfortable riding small paths on your motorbike.
Making your stay easy and incredible:
I provide a list by email and printed here of all contact info and menus for local restaurants, warungs, my own amazing personal massage therapist (who will come here for onsite massages at under $10 an hour), local juice bar with organic green juices and coconut water (or any other elixir) delivered to your home every morning if you want, as well as a list of things to do and see in Ubud (spas, restaurants, sights, off-the-beaten path things to do, expat activities like kirtans, meditation/breathwork/yoga classes that are not heavily advertised but often going on in and around Ubud, local place to rent a motorbike at the cheapest rate, where to get pulsa for your Bali phone, laundry delivery service), pretty much anything you need to know about Ubud! If you ever need ANYthing, my owners and their family (who all live nearby) will be by in under 10 minutes to help you.
I can arrange airport pickup from one of my friendly English-speaking drivers. Additionally, they all provide great tours and private day trips at affordable prices. I also have a few other drivers/tour guides who are specialized in knowing particular parts of the island.
Note, I am renting this place when I am back in the U.S. for a visit, but you will be able to reach me with any questions and the owners will be there for you in an instant if you have any questions. My neighbor Mini speaks English and is always around and enthusiastically waiting to help and talk to you! I have expat neighbor friends in every direction and I provide you a VERY detailed guide of everything you need to know about Ubud & beyond, including how to get organic juice and coconut water delivered, drivers, laundry, secret spots, etc. (more on that below)
I prefer if someone rents this long term, for 2-3 weeks, but shorter term stays welcome. There will be a further discount for 3 week rental. My belongings will be in the place, but put away or stored so you have room to put your toiletries, hang your clothes, and feel as if it is your own.
Mona is a wonderful host, she is very nice, considerate and made coming to her home so easy and hassle free. I had just arrived in Bali from Australia and you just never know what you might be walking into!
The villa itself was private set in a lush little garden and the bedroom was lovely, clean and spacious. The 4 poster bed (email hidden) which I'm sure would come in handy at different times of the year. The outdoor bathroom was lovely and totally private, in a island like Bali where people seem to be everywhere this home is really a gem!
Location wise it is really close to restaurants, bars and a short bike ride in Central Ubud.
A cleaner came around each day and cleaned the villa, the times when I happened to be there they were very discreet but friendly.
I'd thoroughly recommend staying at Mona's place if you ever come to Ubud.
This is the final rate, including any fees from the host and Airbnb.
