Our 2 bedroom apartment is bright and airy as we are on a corner of the block (This is not a row home) so all rooms have many windows and get great natural light.
It's relaxed, clean and comfortable here and a great fit or most types of travelers.
Our place is really very relaxed and comfortable. We have 2 bedrooms, one huge room with a full/double bed and full/double futon (with a really great sprung futon mattress). Then the next room has a queen bed with an amazing memory foam mattress. All fresh linens and pillows provided along with towels. (We have various types of pillows if you are allergic) We also have airbeds if you are a large group.
Our Living room has the biggest most comfortable 8 foot sofa. We have a record player with various vinyl, cd, radio, flatscreen TV with cable HBO and DVD player. Free wifi. Fully equipped kitchen for cooking, including a communal cupboard with spices and oil.
This is why my place is super duper!....
The apartment is in East Passyunk, which was named one of the "10 Best Foodie Streets in America" by Food & Wine Magazine in 2013.
We are by the famous Pat's and Geno's cheese steak Emporiums, and the famous Italian Market. (Think Rocky running with the kids) All with great unique shops, bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and all in a very safe neighborhood to walk around in day or night.
15 minute bus ride to Center City.
10 min walk to the subway (2 stops away from Center City).
We keep our apartment very clean and communicate very well. We're pretty amenable to all types of groups and we think we can help you have a fabulous time in Philly.
-Nicola & Mike
Guests will have access to the whole 2 bedroom apartment to themselves.
(There are no pets here either in case anyone has allergies.)
Interaction with Guests
*We send you a really great Information/FAQ email about the apartment.
We are always available by phone if you have any questions or need anything at all.
If you are new to the city or East Passyunk, just ask! We would love to share with our guests what we love about our neighborhood and the city of Philadelphia.
Our neighborhood is East Passyunk, which has undergone quite a revival in recent years. It is traditionally the Italian neighborhood and now has a vibrant mixture of newcomers and old South Philly families. The history and culture is rich here. I'm part Italian and have lived in Italy and this place is a treasure. The cookies in the Italian bakeries, delis with Mortadella, fresh pastas and cheeses. You can even hear people chatting in Italian.
There is the 47 bus a block away which will take you straight into Center City in around 15 minutes.
The subway at Tasker Morris is only 5 minutes to the center.
Although walking into town is fantastic as we are on 9th Street so you pass Pat and Genos Cheesesteak Emporiums. Then through The Italian Market (Paesanos- best hoagies, DeBruno Brothers-cheese and deli, Tonis-mmmm Pizza) and South St with all it's shopping an then you're there in Center City. It can take around 30 minutes to walk, or more if you stroll.
Other Things to Note
We have a communal cupboard with spices and oil for cooking.
Our place is very clean and so comfortable and relaxed, it is not brand new.
Overall, when you leave just make it seem like it was how you found it. I'll clean the sheets and towels and leave you instructions about what to do with your used sheets and towels and what to do with the keys. Just respect my place and here some basic requests.
1) PLEASE only toilet paper and natural body waste in the toilet. Sounds like a funny request but really please try to be conscious of this and not throwing anything in there that shouldn't be in there.
2.) Please no late loud and crazy parties, this is a residential area. We are happy to have big groups and have had bachelorette groups before but we have enough bars within a block or two that you can take the party to the bar. Just be mindful of others please.
3.) Please clean up after yourself and leave the place as you found it.
This really is our home, it's not just a vacation rental.
Had a great time staying at Nicola's place. Although we didn't get a chance to meet everything we needed was in place and immaculate. Really easy to find the apartment and arriving was simple. Liked the neighborhood and although slightly away from Center City everything was still quite walkable.
Thank you so much for hosting us. We came in as a group of 10, and Nicola and Mike were very flexible and helpful. The only thing was that we had to drive around the block for quite a while to find parking--it seems like parking is very scarce over the weekend. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.
Nicola's apartment had a great location and so close to Pat's and the Italian Market which was amazing to walk through. The apartment was a great size, clean and enough room for the four of us.
We stayed for three nights and the first night we got in late and had to share one bedroom as there was one person staying in the other room. We were told ahead of booking that she would be there, so we were okay with it. We came back from the bars at 230a and tried to be quiet but with 4 people and thin walls we were probably frustrating our flat mate. Apologies to her.
Nicola was excellent. She was quick to communicate and very accommodating. Also loved her place and the neighborhood. It was clean, spacious, and close to lots of good food and drink. Would definitely stay here again next time I'm in Philly.
Staying at Nicola and Mike's place was great. Nicola was in touch in the weeks before our stay to make sure everything was settled to both of our liking. I booked the place for eight guests, though two could not come at the last minute. The six of us had a great time in the apartment. There was enough space for everyone to hang out and listen to music (on their record player) in between outings. There is also a kitchen (though no microwave or toaster oven). There were enough 'real' beds for all three couples. The couch was long and wide enough that someone could very comfortably sleep on it. There were even enough linens for all of us.
The neighborhood was fairly quiet. We did not hear much noise from the street during the night. We did see lots of people trick-or-treating on Halloween. It was nice to see the neighborhood feel of the area. We also found free street parking near the apartment, though spots were more scarce in the evenings.
Despite being in a quiet place and south of city center, there were a surprising amount of restaurants, bars, etc. within walking distance. We found sit-down restaurants, coffee and pastry shops, bars, mini-marts, hookah bars, and more within a 20 minute walk. We chose to Uber into city center to see the art museums, etc. but we could have walked there, too, if we were motivated to. Nicola can also tell you about public transportation options to get around.
Overall, the apartment was clean and as-described. Nicola was right when she says the apartment and neighborhood have a lot to offer! It's a great spot for bigger groups and/or people not concerned with sleeping feet away from the Liberty Bell.
The home with 2 bedrooms is roomy and is all on one floor after climbing up a narrow staircase. We liked the large kitchen and it worked well for our one week visit to PHL for our daughter's wedding. We never met the hostess but the keys were in the mailbox when we arrived very late. Free parking is available but extremely difficult to find after 7PM. We had to park and walk 5-6 blocks away every night after going out to dinner. The streets in South Philly are also very narrow so driving can be a bit stressful if you're not used to this. The home is located on a corner and across from a bus stop, so the place is very noisy even with the windows closed.
We had an excellent time staying at Nicola's! We rented this apartment while we were in town for a wedding and Nicola was even kind enough to let us host part of the bachelorette at her place. Everything was very clean, she was great at being in good communication and we had plenty of room. I would highly recommend staying here if you're visiting Philly, especially with a group of people. We were able to have all the bridesmaids stay in one place comfortably and inexpensively, which saved us a ton of hassle. Thanks again!

Hi I'm Nicola and originally from England but whilst traveling, fell in love with the U.S.A. I'm a cabinet maker but have also been a hostel and hotel manager in San Francisco and truly love to travel. I'm really friendly, easy going and fun to be around.
Mike is a Philadelphia native and loves his city, it's sports and culture. He is a cheesemonger and also a writer and an all round good chap.
