This is why my place is super duper!....
The apartment is two blocks from E. Passyunk Ave , which was named one of the "10 Best Foodie Streets in America" by Food & Wine Magazine in 2013.
10 min walk to the subway (4 stops away from Center City), 5 min walk to the famous Pat's and Geno's cheese steaks, and the famous Italian Market. All with great shops, bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and all in a very safe neighborhood to walk around in day or night.
It's a 20 minute bus/subway ride to where the Phillies/Eagles/Flyers/76ers play.
Center City is 4 subway stops away and that pretty much takes you to an area that is a nice walk to JFK plaza, Logan Square, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art (Rocky statue). Rittenhouse Square is also an easy walk from Center City as well. Parking is super easy in my neighborhood.
I keep my apartment very clean and communicate very well and am a pretty easy person to get along with! I am a teacher and can at times have an erratic schedule so sometimes I don't meet guests. I have friends who sometimes help me out with cleaning and handing off keys or I sometimes leave them in a secret, safe spot for you to pick them up that's easy so please keep that in mind if you book. Hope to hear from you:)
****In the case of a cancellation, if you cancel your whole reservation the cancellation policy of air b and b will be enacted. In the case that you want to cancel on some days in your reservation then I will only give you your full money back if I can book other people for those same days.*****
***the check in time of flexible means that I sometimes can get you in early and sometimes I can get you in later. I work most days and don't get off till 3/4pm so keep that in mind***
Our neighborhood is East Passyunk, which has undergone quite a revival in recent years. It was traditionally the Italian neighborhood and now has a vibrant mixture of newcomers and old South Philly families. The history and culture is rich here.
There is the 47 bus a block away which will take you straight into Center City in around 15 minutes. Also the subway at Tasker Morris is only 8 minutes to the center.
Although walking into town is fantastic as we are on 9th Street so you pass Pat and Genos and through The Italian Market and South St and you're there. It can take around 30 minutes to walk, or more if you stroll.
Overall, when you leave just make it seem like it was how you found it. I'll clean the sheets and towels and leave you instructions about what to do with your used sheets and towels and what to do with the keys. Just respect my place and here some basic rules I'll ask you to do.
1) PLEASE only toilet paper and natural body waste in the toilet. Sounds like a funny request but really please try to be conscious of this and not throwing anything in there that shouldn't be in there.
2) Strip the sheets off the bed and put your used towels, pillow cases, and sheets in a pile aside. Please don't take the cover off the comforter and please fold it up and put it on the stripped bed with the stripped pillows.
3) Please clean up after yourself and leave the place as you found.
Also, to avoid guests bringing in any type of bugs of their own infecting my place I apply Diatomaceous Earth and a sticky pad or two hidden in cracks and such in the apartment. It is not a chemical pesticide and instead a non-poisonous, safe, organic alternative that is simply bits of white rock crumbled up and it dries out insects, thus killing them, if they walk over it. It also doesn't allow them to increase their populations. The sticky pads are there so I can monitor if any insects are running around that shouldn't be. I try and keep a very clean home and don't want the personal habits of guests visiting interfering with that.
Nicola was excellent. She was quick to communicate and very accommodating. Also loved her place and the neighborhood. It was clean, spacious, and close to lots of good food and drink. Would definitely stay here again next time I'm in Philly.
Staying at Nicola and Mike's place was great. Nicola was in touch in the weeks before our stay to make sure everything was settled to both of our liking. I booked the place for eight guests, though two could not come at the last minute. The six of us had a great time in the apartment. There was enough space for everyone to hang out and listen to music (on their record player) in between outings. There is also a kitchen (though no microwave or toaster oven). There were enough 'real' beds for all three couples. The couch was long and wide enough that someone could very comfortably sleep on it. There were even enough linens for all of us.
The neighborhood was fairly quiet. We did not hear much noise from the street during the night. We did see lots of people trick-or-treating on Halloween. It was nice to see the neighborhood feel of the area. We also found free street parking near the apartment, though spots were more scarce in the evenings.
Despite being in a quiet place and south of city center, there were a surprising amount of restaurants, bars, etc. within walking distance. We found sit-down restaurants, coffee and pastry shops, bars, mini-marts, hookah bars, and more within a 20 minute walk. We chose to Uber into city center to see the art museums, etc. but we could have walked there, too, if we were motivated to. Nicola can also tell you about public transportation options to get around.
Overall, the apartment was clean and as-described. Nicola was right when she says the apartment and neighborhood have a lot to offer! It's a great spot for bigger groups and/or people not concerned with sleeping feet away from the Liberty Bell.
The home with 2 bedrooms is roomy and is all on one floor after climbing up a narrow staircase. We liked the large kitchen and it worked well for our one week visit to PHL for our daughter's wedding. We never met the hostess but the keys were in the mailbox when we arrived very late. Free parking is available but extremely difficult to find after 7PM. We had to park and walk 5-6 blocks away every night after going out to dinner. The streets in South Philly are also very narrow so driving can be a bit stressful if you're not used to this. The home is located on a corner and across from a bus stop, so the place is very noisy even with the windows closed.
We had an excellent time staying at Nicola's! We rented this apartment while we were in town for a wedding and Nicola was even kind enough to let us host part of the bachelorette at her place. Everything was very clean, she was great at being in good communication and we had plenty of room. I would highly recommend staying here if you're visiting Philly, especially with a group of people. We were able to have all the bridesmaids stay in one place comfortably and inexpensively, which saved us a ton of hassle. Thanks again!
We spent a great time in Philly. We haven't seen the host but everything was perfectly planned and the flat very good. Moreover the check out was flexible so it was perfectly for us!
We had a great stay at Nicola and Mike's place. Very clean and comfy, with 2 great-sized double beds and a comfy futon. Central location within an easy walk to lots of nice restaurants and bars. Everything was very easy and smooth!

Hi I'm Nicola and originally from England but whilst traveling, fell in love with the U.S.A. I'm a cabinet maker but have also been a hostel and hotel manager in San Francisco and truly love to travel. I'm really friendly, easy going and fun to be around.
Mike is a Philadelphia native and loves his city, it's sports and culture. He is a cheesemonger and also a writer and an all round good chap.
