Interaction with Guests
We love meeting people and hearing about our guests' travels, and we're happy to share our recommendations for favorite local spots. We try to greet each guest upon arrival, but if that's not possible, we'll leave specific instructions. We respect our guests' privacy and are fairly 'hands-off' hosts once guests are settled in.
We live in one of Santa Barbara's oldest neighborhoods, walking distance to public transportation, the best Mexican food in town, and Trader Joe's. Walk to beach, great eats, including the world famous La Super Rica, Telegraph Brewing Company, and local wine tasting. Borrow a bike and hit the Urban Wine Trail in the nearby Funk Zone, or bike to State Street, Santa Barbara's "downtown" with shopping, restaurants, and bars.
Our neighborhood is quiet and family-friendly, comprised of small bungalows mostly built in the 1920's-40's.
Our neighborhood has great accessibility to the best of Santa Barbara. We're walking (or biking) distance to the beach, the Santa Barbara Bowl, downtown/State street, restaurants and shops. The train station is a 5-minute cab ride; public bus stop is one block from our place. We are approximately a 20-minute drive from the SB airport and UCSB.
There's plenty of free, easy street parking - just note street cleaning signs!
No smoking anywhere on property, please.
No check-ins after 10 pm (for special circumstances, please contact us in advance.)
Good, quiet location near to the beach. Hosts are super friendly and helpful - the casita itself is very clean and well equipped (kettle, coffee machine etc). I can warmly recommend this place. Great stay, thanks Jen and Mark.
Mark and Jen welcomed us with warm southern Californian hospitality and made us feel very welcome. We very much appreciated their (written) tips on where to go when visiting Santa Barbara and their favourite restaurants and places to go. We particularly loved Butterfly Beach. It was unusually warm during our stay and it made the casita quite hot in the evening but the fan helped to cool down the space.
We had a great experience at Mark and Jens place! Mark and Jen are really great hosts - we truly got a genuine feeling of being welcomed. The rooms is small but comfortable. It was very clean and is about 20 min walk from state st. There are several good restaurants (Mexican!) in the area. We would definitely come back!
Our stay in Mark and Jen's casita was wonderful. They are such great hosts. The casita is a cosy room in their backyard with a lovely patio setup. The atmosphere as well as our hosts and lovely children made us feel right at home. Mark and Jen were generous with their time to share information about the city, the main attractions and their personal favourites. Santa Barbara is a beautiful place to be. Mark and Jen made it an even more enjoyable stay by providing us with cruiser bikes. We used them every day to get around. The location of the casita made it easy for us to visit, from the pier to downtown, to the funk zone, to the beach. We will definitely stay with them again next time. We fell in love with the easy going lifestyle of SB and our stay in this charming cozy casita was one of the highlights of our trip. As an added bonus, Mark and Jen's house is surrounded by avocado, orange, lemon, lime and banana trees! Not to mention 40 year old Jade plants that enchanted us very much. Many thanks!
We loved our stay at Mark and Jen’s casita and wished we had booked for longer. The family were very welcoming and gave us great advice on exploring Santa Barbara. The place was charming and had everything we needed. It was just a short walk to the beach and plenty of eateries. We hope we’ll make it back to stay again one day. Until then, thanks so much for making this the highlight of our Californian road trip.
We loved the casita! It was just perfect - our own private space and in such a beautiful home. Every little detail had been thought of in the room and bathroom, from beach towels to a list of restaurant recommendations. The bed was so comfortable. The garden is gorgeous and a lovely place to relax and read a book. The location was great and we walked to and from the beach and also to State Street for dinner. Mark and Jen were very friendly and welcoming. I would definitely stay here again - hopefully we will return to beautiful Santa Barbara one day!
This casita was beyond charming! My boyfriend and I were looking for a quick day trip and decided to stay the evening in SB. We are so glad we stayed here! Mark welcomed us, and he and his family had a terrific list of places to check out in the neighborhood. They were very accommodating! The casita itself was lovely with so many wonderful books, a comfy bed, and much more. Do yourself a favor and stay here...preferably for more than one night!
