Great location
100% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
Stream-side guest house with fantastic water view in lovely forest setting - just steps from trailheads into vast GW National Forest. Peaceful, private and all to yourself, this 720 sq ft loft is a charming, comfy getaway. During the day go hiking, wading, or just relax on the deck overlooking the stream. At night let sounds of rushing water and the gentle voices of nature lull you to sleep. 11 miles to Harrisonburg. Fast Internet/Netflix. A meditative retreat from which to explore the valley.

The space
THE GUESTHOUSE: You will have this private, second story loft/guesthouse (garage below) all to yourself. The space is accessed by a flight of stairs leading to a small deck overlooking the unspoiled forest and crystal clear stream flowing over the boulders. It's like living in a tree-house. In the warm weather you can leave city sounds behind, open the windows and let this unspoiled wilderness speak to you. At the base of the stairs is another deck with a gas grill and a stair down to the lower property and the stream. The location is surrounded by unspoiled nature and directly boarders on millions of acres of National Forest. You could hike from here for 20 miles into the mountains to West Virginia and not see another structure. The loft is equipped with a 2 burner hotplate, countertop oven, sink, microwave, fridge and coffee maker. The loft is high-speed internet connected. Network channels, Netflix, HBO and Amazon on smart TV. Bathroom with stall shower. Smoke-free both inside the loft and on the grounds. Sorry, no pets of any kind. The space is set up to sleep two. - contact us if you would like to bring a third person with your own bedding. There is a fire pit next to the lower deck. Firewood that is stacked under the deck is free but it is sometimes "green." We encourage you to bring your own seasoned firewood and starting material for a high quality fire.
Check-in time is 2:00pm and Check-out time is 12:00 noon.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Self Check-in - Be sure to download or print the check-in instructions in case you lose cell service. Download or print driving and parking directions as some navigation systems have the last bit of our road mapped incorrectly!

ABOUT RAWLEY SPRINGS: In the 1800's there was a destination resort hotel in Rawley Springs that was renowned for the "healing waters" emerging from the many springs in the area. At the foot of the Allegheny range, and located on the very border of hundreds of thousands of acres of GW National Forest, the loft feels a world away from the hustle and bustle. The grounds are planted with azaleas, rhododendrons and day lilies that are spectacular in the spring. Summer is five to ten degrees cooler than Harrisonburg due to the higher elevation, the tree canopy and stream. Great for hiking. Fall foliage is magnificent and is a week ahead of lower elevations in the Shenandoah Valley. Winter is a magical time when the trees are snow covered and the air crisp and clear. Just past the property is the trailhead for the National forest, so the loft is surrounded by forest and park land. From the trailhead one could walk for 20 miles into West Virginia and not see another structure (you may have to get your feet wet crossing if the stream is up - bring your hiking boots). We have a binder in the loft with a guide to all our favorite hikes.

The property: Feel free to wander around the property or hang out in the garden and have a picnic on the grass. In the spring everything is blooming and green, and in the fall all the ground plants are turning brown as the leaves come into full color.

The Stream: The stream flows directly out of George Washington National forest. To access the stream there is a stairway leading from the deck just behind the loft to the water. The stream might be a trickling brook if it’s been dry, or a raging river if there has been a big storm. Most often it is somewhere in between, but be careful – the rocks are always slippery. It’s fun to hang out on the big flat rocks in the middle of the stream directly across from the deck of the loft and have a picnic. If the steam is high enough you may wish to wade or lounge in the pools by the large rocks across from the loft. If you are a fly-fisher, the stream is home to native brook trout. The path that runs along the stream climbs back up the bank and forms an elliptical walking circuit. There are chairs and a bench scattered about for those who just wish t o relax in the healing embrace of nature. There is a small firepit next to the lower deck and there may be firewood (free) under the upper deck that has been collected from cleanup around the property. Guests desiring a quality fire should bring their own firewood and starting materials.

Swadee ka! This is the Thai way of greeting guests and friends when you meet them. I am pleased to share with you this place in magical Rawley Springs, where I live with my American husband. I am a JMU grad in nursing and have lived in this country for 10 years. Moving from a frenetic city like Bangkok to this environment, filled with the overflowing spirit of nature, is a delight to me. I often travel back to Thailand to visit friends and family, but have loved traveling in this country, and seeing many of its special places, which gave me the idea to do AIRBNB myself. My wish? - To live in harmony and compassion with people and the planet. I welcome persons from any race, religion or country to enjoy this special place. Omi.
