The name. Laka is most well known as the goddess of the hula and the forest. Even today, in very traditional hula halaus, an altar or offering is prepared in honor of Laka with a very specific succession of plants. In some traditions of Hawaii the hula was brought to the islands by a brother and sister, both named Laka. Although prayers are addressed to Laka in many hula performances, few, if any, hulas are ever dedicated to her. Because of many stories connecting Laka to impregnation and fruitfulness, Beckwith calls her "the goddess of love." The name laka means "gentle, docile, attracted to, to attract," and there are old chants asking Laka to attract not only love, but wealth. Of very different origin, she was nevertheless incorporated into the Pele religion. Due to her associations with the forest she represents the element of plants.

After 12 wonderful days in Maui we were all very sad that we had to leave this magical island. Laka Villa is a perfect place to stay if you appreciate spending your vacation away from crowdy tourist places. That was our plan and it worked out perfectly for us. You need a car for easy access to the property. But that is a general suggestion for Maui. Having a car makes your vacation definitly more comfortable. No worries, driving there is totally relaxed – hang loose also counts on the streets. Haiku is a good spot close to all the wind surfing beaches and a good starting point for other activities such as horse riding, road to hana, haleakala crater, exploring Paia etc. BTW at the fish market in Paia you get the best fried calamaris ever!
Our Landlord Nicolas has a good taste for interior design. The furniture at the apartment is well selected and combined harmonically. Laka Villa has a good set of equipment. Everthing looked brand new, very clean and the beds were really comfortable - we all sleped like happy logs. There was a lot of space for clothes, bags etc. Perfect for us 4 Swiss-Girls!
Communication with Nicolas was very releaxed and convenient. All our inquiries were answered right away. Check In an Check Out was really easy and Nicolas also let us stay longer due to our evening flight. Mrs Lourdes the person in charge for the property was really helpful and our requests were settled right away.
Thank you Nicolas for leting us stay at Laka Villa. You were a great host and we decided to nominate you for „the best landlord among the entire pacific rim award “. I hope you accept this nomination.
