Locals often call the house the “ponte vecchio” because of the bridge between its two parts.

The space

The house - called 'Lo forn vielh' (the name is Occitan for "The Old Bakery") - is an enchanting and fully renovated complex of buildings. The main house comprises three bedrooms, a large airy living room, dining room, a fully equipped kitchen (including dishwasher and microwave), and two bathrooms. Living room, dining room, kitchen, the main bathroom and toilet and a large terrace with plenty of herbs and flowers are all on the same level.
The bedrooms.
Climb the stairs to view the bedrooms. A miniature gallery allows you to look down into the living room from the landing. On the left is a bedroom with a splendid view of the mountains on the other side of the Orb valley. Turn right and cross the glassed-in bridge to the master bedroom with its en-suite bathroom, separate toilet and private terrace. Both rooms have wide double beds.
A third spacious bedroom with twin beds is reached by descending the stairs in the living room to the ground floor level. It always feels nice and cool.
The optional summer house stands in its own grounds near the main house. Furnished with a pull-out double bed, it is ideal for those who wish to enjoy the silence of Le Vernet to the full.

Guest access

The guests have full access to the house, the terraces and garden.

The neighborhood

Le Vernet is one of the hamlets that make up the "commune" of Combes. Twenty years ago Le Vernet was almost entirely uninhabited but since then it has revived thanks to the efforts of local enthusiasts and new arrivals. Le Vernet's position makes it an ideal place for a truly relaxing holiday in the warm sunshine of Southern France. It is perched on the flanks of Le Caroux, a vast and rocky outcrop that forms the southern tip of the Massif Central. As such the microclimate is influenced by the mountain air, so that the village never feels stuffy in hot weather.
Le Vernet is ideal for walkers and cyclists.
You can start by exploring the "Passa Païs" or "Voie Verte" - an 80 km long path suitable for cyclists and walkers that links Bédarieux and Mazamet. Following the route of the former railway line, it offers you a chance to take in the marvellous scenery of the Caroux and beyond without being disturbed by road traffic.
Bikes can be hired at various points along the route. Efforts have been made to establish refreshment stops, called 'Guinguette', along the route as well. These 'Guinguettes' also serve simple meals, although you should check the opening hours in advance to avoid disappointment.
Bike hire is available from Vélo d'Orb in Poujol-sur-Orb and from shops in Mons-la-Trivalle and Olargues. There are guinguettes at Poujol-sur-Orb and Saint-Martin de l'Arçon. Refreshments are available close to the Voie Verte in Mons-la-Trivalle and Olargues.
Alternatively the numerous forestry roads allow you to explore the immediate neighbourhood and discover the breathtaking views of the area. You might also see a deer, a mouflon, or, if you are very quiet, a wild boar... More adventurous walkers will enjoy walking on the Caroux or the Gorges d'Héric.
There are several fresh-water lakes in the area, where you can swim, canoe, sail or windsurf. A 45 minute drive brings you to the Mediterranean shore and its resorts and beaches.
There are abundant sports facilities in the area. You can play golf at nearby Lamalou-les-Bains (7 km), you can kayak at Tarassac, go horse riding, swim in the local streams or in the public baths at Lamalou, or simply fish in the river.

Getting around

Nearby airports : Montpellier, Carcassone or Béziers. Thalys and TGV to Montpellier. Car rental at the airport. The village of Poujol-sur-Orb (see map) is served by a bus line offering direct connections to Montpellier for the symbolic price of €1. You can rent bikes in Poujol and explore the 'Voie Verte'.
Car park at the bottom of the village.

Other things to note

Optional neighbouring summer cottage available for 2 extra guests. (not included in price).
