Walking distance to Ubud , but worlds away, this charming 2 storey Balinese bungalow with swimming pool is set high on the ridge in the village of Penestanan.

This recently renovated house has Western amenities while retaining Balinese charm.

The Space

Upstairs is a spacious and airy master bedroom with a queen size four poster bed and mosquito net. The room opens onto a large balcony with views to Mount Agung and the rice fields. There is an ensuite bathroom off this main bedroom.

Downstairs is a sitting area with a television and DVD player. This rooms opens onto the pool area and also opens to a large covered outdoor living space with table and chairs and Balinese benches for relaxation.

There is a second bedroom downstairs set up as a study and this has a large Balinese day bed with
an innerspring mattress. This could easily accommodate another person.

There is a new kitchen (compact) with gas cooking and a small electric oven.

Outside the kitchen is a small service area with a washing machine.

Also downstairs is a new and lovely indoor/outdoor bathroom with a bath and tropical plants.

Wake to the sounds of nature with roosters in a distant village, and go to sleep with the song of the frogs and sometimes the sound of an ancient temple gong.

Airport pickup and drop off can be arranged as well as sightseeing tours around the island.
This is an idyllic corner of paradise for serious rest and relaxation and a wonderful base to explore the bali.

The rental price includes cleaning 5 days per week and garden and pool maintenance.

If you require further help with washing or would like breakfast prepared this can be arranged.

My 2 cats also live here and their food will be provided.

The village of Penestanan is set up on a ridge 15 minutes walk from the bustle of Ubud township and has long been known as the artists village. The main road to Ubud is 300 metres away, via a pathway and steps - 20 minutes walk to Ubud or 4 minutes in a taxi from the bottom of the steps. We are on a quiet walking path surrounded by ricefields and local and expat community life.. Nearby is an organic cafe, local warungs (casual eateries) and western restaurants, art galleries, a yoga studio and local supermarket. It is a SAFE area for women travelling alone.

Interaction with Guests

To help you enjoy the area I have prepared information on local eateries and spas and my drivers and local housekeeper are available to assist you during your stay.

Other Things to Note

Within 4 minutes walk is a yoga studio with daily classes and just 2 minutes away is an organic cafe.
There are more than 10-12 places to eat delicious and inexpensive food all within 15 minutes walking.
The Supermarket also is close by.

  • Ruth's place 'Above The Palm Trees' was magical. We loved sitting out on the daybed each morning and just reading and listening to nature. It really was like a refuge and so safe and surrounded by a few beautiful cafe's and spas within walking distance. The neighborhood would have to be one of the best in Ubud...not too busy and not too quiet. It was just right. Ruth as a host was fantastic. Really made our stay and gave us detailed notes and recommendations to ensure we had everything we needed. I would highly recommend staying here.

I’m a permanent resident originally from Australia (actually born in England but lived most of my life in Aus) with a love of Bali, its people and its culture. I love good food and In Sydney some years ago I had a cafe. I enjoy having guests in my home and helping them get the most out of their stay, but I also respect people's privacy. I’m into yoga and meditation and being healthy (as much as I can with such a love of food) . I’m passionate about colour and design, love travel, love sharing the things I know about and work towards balance in my life. Here I am fascinated by the culture - continually learning more about the ceremonies, special occasions, and temple decorations. I love the gentleness of the Balinese people and how they are always smiling and willing to talk and help people. I am also grateful for the peace and tranquility living here offers - it really (email hidden). .
