Kathy Jo and Jeffrey are Travelers. In their years as public school teachers they created a Travel Club and escorted hundreds of students, and adults to Europe and Japan.
Jeffrey is still teaching. He has a small class of high school students with Severe Multiple Impairments. Kathy Jo is retired after 27 years of teaching health to Middle School kids.Jeffrey and Kathy Jo have three children, two of whom are moving back to Kona to be school teachers. Their son is cooking in Portland but has a local girlfriend so we expect to see him out this way at any time.
As Traveler’s they are going to keep on going places. As hosts they want you to know that your privacy and ability to relax and enjoy the quiet that their place provides is deeply important to them. That is why they trust Razia to manage all their bookings. They might contact you directly with special instructions if necessary. We hope to see you in Hawaii!
Kathy Jo and Jeff are very fine and pleasant folks and we were very happy and pleased with our stay with them. A bit off the"beatin path" But that's what we were looking for, away from the crowds and noisey roads. And at approx. 1200 ft. it was wonderfully cool in the evenings. The neighborhood and surrounding were very nice and peaceful. Having our own private entrance and parking and with the great Ohana it would be hard to wish for a nicer place to stay. Thanks!!!
We really enjoyed our stay. I liked the extra room with the kitchenette and sitting area, a great spot for morning coffee and map reading. It was very quiet there, with only the sounds of birds. The location was close to Kona sites, and North beaches and far enough away from traffic. I would come and stay again.
Razia manages the property for the hosts, who were very nice folks.
The unit is very nice, very clean, with a very comfortable bed. It is set up more for three people than a couple, but nothing wrong with a little extra space.
Our hosts were entertaining people the first evening, and the unit wall is attached to the main house, so we heard noise from the main house up until 9:30 that night. So we were slightly disappointed, though she did apologize for the noise. That's why I gave 4 stars and not 5. Other than that, no issues. The second night was very quiet and peaceful.
These are very nice people, the place is very nice (though a bit out of the way), positioned right above the airport, though there is no airport noise. About 1,000 feet elevation. It is a neighborhood, so we could hear dogs and the occasional rooster.
I would stay again, but would want a place with detached units for noise reasons.
Previous reviews stated that this space was very small but we did not find it small. It was a very comfortable space for two people and it would have been fine for three people. The woman Kathy-Jo who was our on-site contact was pleasant and helpful. There was an abundance of fluffy, white towels and extra sheets to change the bedding. The kitchen was supplied with everything we needed. We felt safe and secure and the location was extremely close to the airport. Check in and out was no problem. Great sunset view with a picnic table. Directions to find the place were excellent. This was a quiet, serene and cheerful place to stay. Thank you!
Razia was always quick at responding to questions. Kathy Jo (the house owner) was incredibly friendly and welcoming. We saw her a couple of times and had to ask her for some favors but we were given our own privacy. A good location if you have a car. It's an easy drive to most places. A little hard to find the place in the dark our first night there, but I got used to it the next day. I really liked that we had a kitchen with a hot plate, microwave, utensils, plates and bowls, and a fridge all to our selves. There were some bugs and insects here and there, but what do you expect staying in the tropics.
Staying here was a great experience! It was very private, but the host was always accessible if needed. She went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable, including letting us help ourself to some of her fruit trees, and beech accessories (no need to pack snorkel gear and beech towels, she has got you covered). The kitchen had great accessories, including a blender, hot plate, full fridge/deep freeze, and a cooler to use for a picnic. The neighbourhood was a little noisy at night over the weekend, and there were some local lizards (and their droppings) that made use of our window sills, but other than that I have no complaints. A great place to stay for your money.
We've been here for 2 weeks and I loved it from the first day. It is comfortable; you have all the amenities you need. You can actually see that this place equipped and made with a real care and attention - all the details and things are handy and placed where they have to be.
This place is located on the elevation and though it does not have an air conditioner (we’ve been a bit concerned about this), this space is breezy and it's very comfortable during the night (not stuffy and not humid).
The view from the place is great especially the sunset. It was so nice to get outside, listen to the birds and have some breakfast in the morning.
You're attached to the kitchen wall of the owners’ house only. So most of the time you won't hear them and they won't hear you. The owners are great and intelligent people - always ready to help and answer all your questions and never disturb your privacy.
They kindly provide with some snorkeling gears, beach towels, chairs, and even a guide book for those who wants to explore the island. I highly recommend the Big Island Hawaii revealed guide - its fantastic and it's available for you as some other travel guides.
I’m absolutely amazed by the diversity of the island and grateful to the owners’ and Razia for quick responses and attention. These made my vacation!
Kathy Jo and Jeffrey were wonderful hosts.
Everything was very clean and we had all what we needed. We had a great time in Big Island and we would recommed to stay with this verry friendly and helpfull hosts. Thank you and love greetings
A spotlessly clean and spacious studio situated ideally right above Kona. We recommend this place as a base for day trips to all of Kohala, the beautiful beaches of North Kona and to Mauna Kea. The hosts are very helpul and nice and this beautifully designed and fully equipped place makes you feel like at home. Highly recommended.
