Very private cozy cottage nestled close to downtown Olympia.

The space

The Cottage is nestled in Olympia’s Eastside neighborhood, a short walk from downtown. The Bungalow shares a small urban site with another small guest house. Both use space efficient and eco-friendly design principles. The Cottage features local wood products and local craftsmanship to enhance the warmth and sense of place. Parking is on the street and access to the cottage includes a cascade of 11 steps through lush in native vegetation. Two birch trees mark your entrance.

The landscape is filled with native plants, fruits, berries and herbs. Although this little home away from home is only 500 square feet, the design heightens the sense of warmth in this cozy, comfortable space.

The Cottage comfortably accommodates 2 guests with:
One bedroom - with a queen bed
One bathroom with a unique slate and pebble shower
Dining area with a well equipped kitchen with an electric range
Earth-friendly cleaning practices
CD player with a collection of CDs
Collection of books, games and puzzles
Towels, soap, hair dryer, iron and ironing board
Covered patio with outdoor seating in small fenced yard
Fully furnished with your comfort and convenience in mind

Guest access

Guests have access to entire house, private side yard and patio.

Interaction with guests

I usually don't interact much with guests as I live offsite and up the street. I do come around to water and prepare other guest house for guests. I try to communicate when I will be around. I am very reachable by phone. The neighbors keep a good eye on what's going on. If there are any parties or inappropriate behavior I will and have called police and shut down shenanigans.

This is such a relaxing, spacious venue. Short uber ride to local hotspots, and parking on the street was great.

Ellen’s place is in a very quiet neighborhood.. The kitchen was nicely equipped. The bed was extremely comfortable. When sitting outdoors we were sheltered from the rain. We stayed there for 1 week and hope to stay there again next time we are in Olympia.

Ellen's place is really a sweet, little retreat close to downtown but quiet. There is a sweet garden, patio area off the living room. The kitchen is well appointed with everything you need. Ellen was quick to respond to our last minute request to stay as we were traveling through. She had everything ready for us to check in right after our dinner out! Would definitely stay again!

PROS: Such a pretty setting, with the private little side yard and long porch area; woke up to the greenery of it with a coat of fresh rain and was sad I had to leave! Interior has a comforting arts 'n' crafts feel that I loved. The cottage is behind another house, so it's very quiet and peaceful, and the neighborhood is very lush and green with plenty of street parking. The bed had the most incredibly soft, almost suede-feeling sheets, which I fell in love with, and there were extra blankets on hand to keep things cozy on cold nights. Appreciated that there was info/containers for composting and recycling, as many hosts do not provide these (helps our little planet). There was a fan in the closet, which provided nice white noise for this city dweller unused to the hardcore quiet. I was only there one night, so didn't cook beyond toast/tea, but the kitchen was nicely stocked and good-sized with lots of counter space and a bink retro sink with sideboard that I loved (only has a mini fridge, but that is fine for most of us travelers). Excellent selection of quality shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc. Nice, thick towels too. All the products in the house are natural and eco-friendly, which is great. Having the lockbox by the door for keys made check in/out very easy, which is ideal when you are arriving late. There were extra paper products and towels provided. Ellen provided detailed info and reached out to me quickly, which I appreciated, and she left a sweet note for me. Two gorgeous birch trees mark the entrance to the side walkway that leads to the back cottage. You will need to carry your luggage up the walkway with several wide gravel stairs and some low-hanging branches but it was easier than I expected, even when I was tired. CONS: These are all highly individual, so please do not be dissuaded! The living room seating and bed are very low to the floor, which is great for most folks, especially the petite, but very bad for a 6'2" human with bad knees (oof). Ended up avoiding the couches/chair after the first awkward try. Low ceilings throughout, so felt very tall indeed, but am used to that. The step up to the shower is rather high and the inlaid pebble floor surface is uneven, which might be an issue for people with disabilities, but there is a vertical hand rail along the frame to help out. Not being able to adjust the wide, luxurious shower head above my chest level was annoying, but I figured out too late that I could have used the nice wooden stool that was siting right there for that purpose (derp). Again, only an issue for the obnoxiously tall, and a bonus for everyone else. Wish there were screens on the windows along the side of the house where the bedroom was. I wanted to sleep with them open for the...

This was a really great location for us near the Capital and lots of places to eat. The cottage was clean and quiet. Street parking was convent and easy. Kitchen was stocked with plenty of spices and all you would need other than food. If I need to stay in Olympia again, I will do definitely try to stay here.
