Relaxed, laid back, off beat, family home.
The Ark is a one of a kind, recently constructed, Caribbean style plantation house.
By virtue of its tradition timber construction, it loses heat rapidly at night and provides a cool comfortable eco friendly environment.
It has an indefinable magic, a good feel, peace with tranquility and its simplicity and lack of clutter frees your mind from the hectic everydayness of modern living.
Guests have full access to the main deck of the house and the garden and if you are an artist writer or musician in need of a new perspective and a space away from your fellow guests, by arrangement, you will be welcome to use the basement workshop.
Interaction with Guests
I am currently 4000 miles away in rain swept England so my interaction is limited to (website hidden) and email but on island manager Sheena Oliver, can help you with your every need and will interact with you as much or as little as you wish.
Montserrat possesses a magic comparable with places like Ibiza in the 60's & 70's and is one of the few really safe places left on this planet.
It is a well integrated very friendly society almost entirely crime free and free from prejudice and discrimination.
Taxiis are relatively expensive in local terms but double as buses which are really good value about £1 to travel the length of the island.
The roads are relatively good being EU and British funded and car rental is $US30-$US35 a day.
Other Things to Note
Pack long, cool cotton trousers and long sleeved shirts for evening & night wear, it is the tropics and there are biting insects, although much fewer than other islands.
Dress properly when you go out and take the time to greet and talk to everybody you meet, wave when you pass people in the car and say Good morning or Good Night to fellow passengers when you use the bus.
You'll get to know everybody pretty quickly and drink the fresh spring waters of "Runaway Ghaut" and you will always return.
Please Don't smoke in the bedrooms or light candles or mosquito coils anywhere mosquito nets as they are expensive and inflammable.
Otherwise respect our space, enjoy yourselves and let us know how we can make your stay as fun & relaxing as possible.
This house was absolutely fabulous!! It was exactly how I wanted and expected it to be. Wide, wide open everywhere. Not one bit of glass, just lovely green shutters that you could have closed or open. One had the feeling of being outside yet still be inside. You could walk around the entire house under the porch and every room opened to the porch. The rooms had light, space, doors wide open and plenty of cooling breeze. No walls for the dining area, just open. Tree frogs and crickets filled the evenings and nights with there sounds. Our host was very welcoming by making sure we had a whole case of Carib beer and a bottle of rum in the fridge... very much welcomed after our long trip. House very simple yet totally sophisticated. I would totally go back there again and not even try another one. The local beach was a 2 min ride down the hill and had an open shower as well to wash off. Definitely recommend this place. 10 out of 10! Thank you Tom. Glad to be the first.
Describing one's self always has me completely flummoxed, but i'll do my best
I am a fun loving, happy go lucky pensioner. I enjoy the buzz of big cities but I am a country boy at heart. I love animals. friendly people, being out on the water and the paths less travelled.
I was born in England, brought up between Sierra Leone, Montserrat and the UK. I am a designer & garment printer by trade and I've spent most of the last 25 years living in the Caribbean islands of Montserrat & Antigua
