The Space

Please note: I own this home and am fully licensed by the City of Tucson to rent rooms in this home.

My townhouse is very quietly located in a brick townhouse complex directly across from the Rio Vista Natural Resources Park with quick access to cycling and running trails along the Rillito. The neighborhood is very safe and serene.Trader Joe's, the best Tucson farmer's market (on Sundays) and a host of excellent restaurants are very close by. You can walk to the Tucson Racquet Club if you like tennis or racquetball. The University is 4.5 miles away...about a 25 minute bike ride, 10 minutes by car.

Let me show you to your room...You will have the south-facing master bedroom suite with its own bathroom. It has a treetop view of the wash and is nicely appointed with a deluxe pillow-top, full size mattress. The house is solar powered (grid tie) and has very fast high speed wireless. The complex has a beautiful salt water pool and spa.

Housemate Trish and I encourage you to play the piano, sing a song and enjoy all the amenities of the complex and the surrounding areas of Tucson. We'll be happy to give you directions and suggest places to visit and eat...or we can leave you alone if you like your solitude.

There is a covered parking space reserved for you.

We're a gay-friendly and (straight friendly too) household welcoming travelers from all around our beautiful world. There's a very special welcome to musicians, artists and writers, but you don't have to be an artist to stay here!

  • Our stay at David's place was peaceful. He helped us settle in and gave recommendations about the local scene. He didn't make me feel any dumber than I already felt when I accidentally took the pool key with me for the day. If you have your own transportation organized it's a nice part of town to stay in. The drinking water at the top of the stairs was a kind touch (tip: place cup under spout before opening...lulz).
    Thanks, David!

  • We stayed 7 weeks in the musical retreat. David is a genial host who is friendly, helpful, & thoughtful, but not intrusive. He encourages water & power conservation & recycling. Our private quarters were spacious & comfortable. Sharing the kitchen posed few problems. We had the space we needed for supplies. The shared living/dining area was roomy even with the grand piano in the corner. I played the beautiful instrument nearly every day; sometimes my husband played his fiddle with me & occasionally David joined us with his clarinet. The neighborhood is safe, quiet & friendly. We enjoyed walks in Rio Vista Park across the street & along the River Walk at the street's end. It was delightful!

  • David has a very cozy house with a couple of fireplaces, 2 yards and a nice little fountain.
The room I stayed in had a wonderful bed with a softest mattress that felt like sleeping in the clouds :) It was very spacious and had enough area for rest, doing a private yoga practice and work at the desk.
His housemate Trish is a great host and a very stylish lady.
I was lucky enough to see David in person and have the funniest conversation at picnic we had at the Gate Pass Gate watching the sunset.
By the way there is a very nice hot tub and a swimming pool there that is free to the people who are staying over.

  • David's beautiful stucco B&B guest facility in the Sonoran desert is spacious. He provides everything you need to feel welcomed as a home away from home with that distinctive Tucson style. Where else do you have gorgeous hummingbirds flitting around outside while you make yourself a cup of tea? David is very welcoming but also is sensitive to leave you with as much privacy as you like. It was great to have a carport directly outside, my own large bathroom and bedroom/study plus great WiFi, desert-themed courtyard (and solar cooker!) I also enjoyed the 24/7 access to the pool and hot spa. The walking trails on the magnificent Catalinas and the dry Rillito River are beautiful any time of day with coyotes singing in the distance at night. One day, I walked to the local Circle K for the New York Times. We enjoyed singing together one night at David's grand piano and I left very sad to miss my new friends at 2828 E. Sierra Vista. I hope to be back in future trips to Tucson!

  • This was our first Airbnb experience. We loved our stay at David's home -- our room & bath were spacious, well-appointed, and comfy. His home is easy to come and go from, and quite peaceful. You'll love it too. We were so busy exploring Tucson and Mount Lemmon that we didn't see David much, but we always felt so welcomed by his warm personality. We're really glad we chose to stay there, our vacation was all the better for it and we are sold on Airbnb.

  • This was our first Airbnb experience and David is a wonderful host. David is very worldly and talented with interesting photos and stories of his travels. His home is beautiful, clean and quiet. Our room was spacious and furnished with all the accoutrements of home including WiFi. My husband and I slept like babies in our comfortable bed. We really enjoyed sitting out on David's patio, sunning ourselves in the sunshine . . . It was truly a wondeful experience and recommend without hesitation . . .

  • David is a wonderful host. The room is beautifully appointed with a comfy bed, a big work desk that was very useful and a strong WiFi connection. The bath has great hot water and completes the completely private suite. David also graciously provides a car slot directly in front of his abode, thanks ever so much! This listing is restful traveler"s delight in the desert.

About
I'm a self-employed graphic artist, writer, photographer and massage therapist. I love to travel, cycle, shop at the farmer's market and cook amazing meals for friends. I just got back from a month long photo trek through Burma. In 2010 I spent the summer in Germany, France, Spain and the Czech Republic. In 2012 I spent the summer in San Francisco, Ukiah and Big Sur doing photography and blogging. I sing bass with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra and play piano for fun. Professionally, I have written a book (Homosteading at the 19th Parallel - avail on Amazon) about my year in Hawaii building my own home in the middle of a lava field. I am a NEA and CPB grantee for a public radio show I used to host on Public Radio International. In 2004 I won the Edward R. Murrow award for my radio show. You can read more about me and my adventures on my blog Face to the Wind at Word (website hidden). I enjoy hosting people from all over the world. I enjoy showing people the best that Tucson has to offer in art, music and dining. The house is full of original art works (many of my own) and Trish my housemate and I love to have people play the (in tune) grand piano, sing, pull out that guitar or whatever you might have. We enjoy meeting people who are open and friendly.
