About This Listing
I love St. Louis and sharing the city with my guests; just look at my reviews! Natural light, a balcony, newly remodeled and minutes from many STL attractions. Please message me to inquire about availability; I usually respond within a few minutes.
A great place to put your feet up and your head down for a single night or an extended stay. If you need a quick response or a last minute place to crash I'm your guy. Plenty of parking on a nice quiet street. Access to Business Class Internet, DirecTV, DVD player, PS3, Netflix, Amazon Prime & HBOGo. A full security system will grant you both access and piece of mind.
Bed fits 2 with a new queen sized, pillow-top mattress. If more space is needed a futon and air mattress can be made available if you contact me before-hand. There is plenty of space for a crib in the room if you're bringing small children.
You'd be staying a few minutes away from many of St. Louis's popular attractions and neighborhoods.

I'm also happy to save you some space in the fridge and freezer if you'd like to do some cooking or bring home your left-overs from any of the amazing local restaurants.
Need a yoga mat or free weights during your stay? No need to pack those. Leave your towels at home as I'm happy to provide those as well. There's a grill on the back porch which gets used year 'round and you're welcome to join in. If you're here for an extended stay a new washer and dryer are available any time you need them.
Interaction with Guests
This could go one of two ways. If I'm traveling during your stay you'll be able to let yourself in and have the run of the place while you're here. My neighbor Ginny takes care of the place while I'm gone and will drop by to keep things tidy and take care of the laundry.
When I'm not traveling, I'll most likely see you every day since I work out of my house. The extent of that is totally up to you. Most week days I stay in my office except for meal times. I'm usually out of the house for a while most evenings but often come back for a little couch and TV time.
If you've never been to St. Louis (or a decent sized Midwestern city) you should know that getting around isn't going to be like Chicago or London. With a very limited metro system you're only method of public transportation is the bus. Many guests asks me how close I am to "see all the sights in STL," and honestly I'm no more than 15 minutes from about everything. That being said, you can't stay in one part of the city and see everything within walking distance. STL is not a compact city and no matter where you stay you'll have to get transportation to see the sights.
McKinley Heights (my neighborhood) is just coming into its own. Sandwiched between beautiful Lafayette Square and hipster Benton Park with eclectic South Grand a few minutes away this little neighborhood is beginning to pick up steam. Living right next to a school keeps the riff raff away and I very rarely have an restless night of sleep.
Just a few blocks from Interstates 64-40, 44 and 55 with 70 only 5 minutes away it doesn't matter where you're coming from or going to my place is super easy to find.
Unfortunately the Metro link doesn't have a nearby stop but Jefferson Ave. (3 blocks away) provides lots of bus opportunities. A 10 minute bus ride on the #11 will get you to a Metro link station. For planning purposes look for bus stops near Jefferson & Russell.
Other Things to Note
10% off for other hosts and repeat guests dependent upon availability; just msg me for a special offer.
Gay friendly, yogis, world travelers, friends of Bill, musicians and artists of all kinds are very welcome. I love creativity, good energy and sing-a-longs so please feel welcome. In fact, the carriage house in the back, while not finished, lighted or heated, could be used as a practice space or studio with the addition of some light. If that's of interest to you let me know and we might be able to make something work.
Because of my travel schedule, and the fact I don't eat many processed foods, I may not have many snack items laying around (I usually keep nuts and fruit in the house if I'm in town and there's always eggs in the fridge). If you're on your way here and need munchies stop at Field Foods in Lafayette Square. Lots of locally sourced and organic options (as well as PopTarts and Hot Pockets).
I'm really very flexible and hate making rules but these are all based on past experiences so here goes...
-My check-in and check-out times are very flexible but it's a good rule of thumb to plan your check-out time between 11-12 and your check-in time after 2. If you need to come earlier or drop things off at the house that's totally cool. I just may need a little time to tidy up the room and change the sheets after the prior guests check-out. If you have requests outside of this please let me know and I'll try to accommodate as best I can.
-No smoking & no parties. Because of a bad experience, long-term guests (staying more than 2 weeks) will require a $300 deposit. If you don't smoke in the room and don't intentionally break anything you'll get it all back.
-Please tidy up after yourselves. Doing your dishes and placing your bed clothes and towels in the laundry basket are much appreciated.
-Sunday through Thursday I need the house fairly quiet by 11:30 PM and the space around my office quiet from 8AM-5:30PM.
-When you're in the house, please lock the doors behind you.
-The cats are super friendly, play with them all you want but don’t let them outside.
Shane was an amazing host. He gave us so many great recommendations about St Louis and we had a fantastic time exploring the city. The flat is well located because it is easy to park the car and it is easy to drive to the nearby spots. The room was lovely and had everything we needed. The cats were just adorable. Thanks Shane for making our time in St Louis so enjoyable!
Shane is a fantastic host (I wish we got to meet you), he was very accommodating and fantastic with communicating with my son and I. The house is beautiful, clean, and has fast internet connection. Shane's two cats are extremely friendly, the kitchen has everything one needs to cook a quick meal or a feast. Wish we could have stayed longer but are now off to the rest of our road trip. Thank you Shane. I highly recommend this listing.
The photos of his home do not do justice! His home is stunning. It had everything we could possibly need and more. I was hesitant at first bc I am extremely allergic to cats and he has two gorgeous ones...but it was so clean and well-maintained that if I hadn't seen them, I would have never known! I would love to stay again if we were to pass through again which I'm sure we will.
Our stay in St Louis was awesome. Shane was an incredible host, had everything we could possibly need, happy to chat and share his knowledge about the local area as well as St Louis more broadly. His recommendations were perfect for things to do and places to eat. Lovely neighbourhood close to Lafayette square which is definitely worth the short walk for coffee and amazing real estate! Definitely recommend Shane and his adorable cats!
Had a great time at Shane's house. He was accommodating and had good advice for things to do in the city. Clean house and nice neighborhood. Would definitely stay at his place again if I'm in the St. Louis area. I recommend having a vehicle if you stay here due to the location.
Shane was such a great host. The space was exactly described and well maintained. He went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable. Shane represented St. Louis well by being a positive advocate for the city and all its hidden treasures. I'll definitely be back in St. Louis and likely staying with Shane again!

About the Host, Shane
After growing up in Central Nebraska, living in Belgium for a year as a foreign exchange student, being fortunate enough to travel the world and even spending a few years working on the cruise ships, I decided it was finally time to put down some roots. After coming to St. Louis in 2010 for a job the universe told me to stick around for a while. The room you're considering renting is the result of that decision. I purchase the home in late 2013 and can't wait to share it with people from all over the world. While originally constructed in 1907 the entire home was rehabbed with new plumbing, electric, HVAC, appliances and fixtures in 2013.
Personally, I'm a huge music fan (was a DJ for 15 years), I love going to concerts, movies and hanging out with friends. I'm an active person and go to the gym and play softball during the summer. I've completed my 200-hour yoga teacher training and practice regularly though don't officially teach. I do not smoke, drink or use drugs but don't mind if you indulge (responsibly and within reason).
If you decide you'd like drop-by and stay a few nights you'd also be sharing the place with my two cats, Ajax and Winston. Both very friendly and personable...enough so that if you don't want them curled up next to you it's advisable to close your bedroom door at night.
Lastly, I do work from home as a sales and marketing manager for a software company. My schedule is typically Monday through Friday; from 8AM-5:30PM. My office sits between your bedroom and the master bedroom and while the house is generally very quiet I do participate in conference calls on a frequent basis during those hours and would need for you to respect that privacy and noise level.
Please send me a message if you have any questions. I've fallen in love with St. Louis and would love to be your conduit to the same end. Namaste and happy trails!
