I'm a dance teacher with an in-home studio, so I may be working with students during your stay. I've lived in Oakland all of my adult life and can tell you the best places to go in the East Bay and San Francisco, as well as the tourist traps to avoid. If you're dancers, I can also tell you where to go dancing. For a unique San Francisco experience, I can take you swing dancing in Golden Gate Park on Sunday mornings where you can take a free half hour beginner lesson at noon and join the regular dancers for lunch in a nearby restaurant a couple of hours later. It's a free, and one of a kind, event! Lake Merrit is considered by many to be the jewel of Oakland. I also offer a half off special for Airbnb guests who want to take a lesson from me!

  • LaurieAnn is a very nice host. She is very friendly and helpful, and the room is very convenient. It was a pleasant stay in her place, even though I stayed for only one night (entering late after 10PM and leaving early before 8AM to attend a conference at Mills College). I had a comfortable rest. I wish I could have stayed longer. Thank you, LaurieAnn, for your hospitality.

  • LaurieAnn is a welcoming charming person to visit and chat with.
Cats are a little shy, but warm up a bit after a day or so.
Very reasonably priced, quiet and walking distance to every convenience, whether its local businesses or transportation links to anywhere in the bay area.

  • My boyfriend and I were looking for an apartment and needed someplace to stay in the meantime. LaurieAnn was very nice and accommodating, as was her cat Ginger. Thanks for letting us stay in your home!

  • I like this room very much helped me out of difficulty at the beginning of my arriving here. I have been living for more than 3 months, grateful to LaurieAnn's kindness help and patience. Also the neighborhood is nice with a lake, each access to supermarket, most importantly-safety. It is a safety place in Oakland. You could get back walking to your house even after 11 pm without any concerning security problems. It's good for people who traveling or short period transitional living. I recommend this room to you! Thank you.

  • Thanks again to Laurie-Ann for hosting us at very short notice and being ready to include also our little baby into her house for some days. We really enjoyed staying here after the long transatlantic flight in the relaxed and friendly athmosphere, and chatting away with Laurie-Ann. Took us a moment to sort out the buses but once understood going to both Oakland and SF was easy.

  • The room and bath are clean (shower high pressure:)). We were given a lot of valueble travel information. We had some minor communication problems about the check-in, but other than that we really enjoyed our stay in LaurieAnn's house. We would recommend this room.

About
I'm a dance teacher specializing in working with dance phobic people who can't learn from anyone else. I'm passionate about teaching and spreading the joy of dance, especially partner dance. I also collect rare plants and have a beautiful and interesting (if a tad unruly) garden, which I tend to all by myself, hence the unruly part. I love to cook, but my diet is pretty basic, mostly plants, simply prepared with very little processed foods. I'm a good conversationalist, but my schedule is erratic, so no guarantee I'll be around when you want to talk. Happy to supply you with all the info you want about the area! I can't live without good friends, integrity, laughter, dancing, new things to try, and nature. When I travel, it's usually dance related, although I did achieve my dream of an English country garden tour a few years ago. I spent the month of July in Sweden and Norway for 8 years studying a European jazz dance (boogie woogie) that I fell in love with. My home is a quiet space, good for people who want to rest when they get back to their room, not good for people who want to party in their room, rather than on the town. (Also not good for smokers. Please see house rules if you smoke.)
