The Space

This newly renovated eco-luxe villa is located in Nyuh Kuning, Ubud's best village! Great for couples, families, and solo travellers, the villa has 2 bedrooms, and space for 4. Nestled on a quiet street, the property is a five-minute walk to Ubud's famous monkey forest, and from there, a ten-minute walk into central Ubud.

Guest Access

The villa is set in it's own private small compound, with a private pool, multiple outdoor sitting areas, and relaxing hammock. The master bedroom has AC, a large cupboard, a safe, and it's own bathroom. The second bedroom has AC, a desk, and a large dresser. The kitchen is fully kitted-out, and includes a large fridge, a sink, and toaster oven, etc. There's also a second bathroom with a shower and a washing machine.
The rental also includes a daily house cleaning service each morning.

There's a few built-in perks if you stay with us: we include a local mobile phone, to help make your stay go smoothly. Our television also has a hard drive full of great movies (over 100+) should you want to spend the night at home.

Interaction with Guests

During your stay with us, we're happy to suggest things to do, places to see, and interesting people to meet. Some of our favourite things in Ubud are yoga classes, mountain biking, and visits to some of Bali's incredible temples. We can also connect you a local driver, or help rent a scooter. We'll even hook you up with a baby-sitter if you want a night off from your kids!

We're an active Canadian family of 5 - three boys, the oldest age 15, and twins age 10. Four years ago we relocated to Bali, and have been enjoying the change of pace and fresh air ever since. We love Bali, and love meeting new people. Come stay with us!

The Neighborhood

Nyuh Kuning, our village, is clean, quiet, and friendly. It's the perfect place to stay if you want to be close to the action, but a bit hidden away.

Getting around

The easiest way to get around is by foot, but bike and scooter, and of course private car/taxi, are good options too!

  • Yes, the villa is gorgeous, private, etc, but what sets this one apart is the welcome and care we received from Yoni, Desak and Koming. They took such wonderful care of us and were so kind and thoughtful throughout our entire stay, from pickup at the airport to dropping us at our next destination...just wonderful. Koming and Yonni took us on an amazing tour of the temples and to lunch in a gorgeous hidden warung overlooking magnificent views of rice terraces and lotus gardens. Lounging by the private pool and napping in the ginormous outdoor papasan for two were highlights!!!! Every morning hungry monkeys greeted us on our daily walks to Ubud. Dining in the little cafes and sipping exotic cocktails along the cobbled streets are ideal ways to relax!!!!

  • Un très beau séjour! La cour est agréable avec la piscine et le hamac. Pas très loin du centre-ville d'Ubud. Une petite marche à travers la forêt des singes et vous êtes rendus.

  • Best place of our holiday! The house wasn't just what you see on the pictures, it breathed welcome and happy energy, not in the least because the owner has such a beautiful eye for decorating. It was everything we could have wished for and more. Ubud is a short walk through the monkey forest. If that sounds intimidating, please know that the monkeys aren't interested in you if you don't bring food. And the forest is beautiful!

The AC is wonderful, there's a washing machine and ironing board, the bedrooms are beautiful (our little one loved hers, with the chalkboard), the kitchen is well equipped. The house manager (Yoni) deserves accolades, she is so nice, knowledgable and easy to reach! She handled our stay beautifully. Peter and Janet, the owners, came to welcome us and invited us to a party at the main house as well. We felt very welcome in our Rumah Kecil.

We were actually sad to leave it, since it felt so much like home. Maybe even more like home than our own home.

  • My family loved staying here, we instantly felt at home. The villa is much bigger than it seems in photos, I think. Great location with enough places to eat nearby if you don't want to go into Ubud centre, but it is a fun walk or ride through Monkey Forrest. Our boys loved the chalkboard wall in their room too. Would definitely stay again.

  • The vacation was wonderful. I want to thank Peter and his team. The description of the villa and reality are the same. Our family was enjoyed staying here.

  • Wow wow wow! We had an absolutely perfect stay at Peter's villa in Nyuh Kuning. The villa and it's gardens are lovely - really welcoming and clean. Everything has been thought of to make your stay really comfortable. The mobile phone, maps and guidance we had through our time there were absolutely over and above. Yoni is super helpful and Peter really went over and above to provide us with information, tips, advice and contacts.

The location is great - just a short walk up to the Monkey Forest and lots of shops, restaurants nearby. We generally walked in the day and took a short cab home after dark.

We travelled with our 9 month old and 3 year old girls and the villa layout, pool etc was perfect for our needs. Thanks again to Peter and Yoni for everything - really appreciated!

  • Where to begin? Everything here is awesome! Indeed best neighborhood, indeed sweet villa... Everything is exactly as it looks on the photos, and feels even better. Excellent designed and cosy house, spacious for two or three adults or a couple with 1-2 kids. Pool may be small but is big enough to cool down and nicely hang around. Like the big big chair on the veranda, we loved that one!
The peaceful location couldn't be better considering that on the other site of the Monkey Forest (gate is at the end of the road, a 2 min. walk) you step into the hectic city life of Ubud (we rented a scooter, what we recommend for going to Ubud; walking is possible but wouldn't recommend it - or you can take a (scooter) taxi round the corner or in town).
Kitchen is fully equipped but we did not use it very much because at the end of the road you can have a good breakfast at the cosy Coffee & Copper. Lunch and diner you have in one of the many good restaurants in (website hidden), drinks and peanuts you get around the corner.
The staff (cleaning lady every morning, pool guy and the hosts) are very sweet and Peter the owner is very relaxed and friendly, he popped in twice during our 5-day stay to ask if we needed anything and manager Yoni arranged the scooter for us, which was delivered at home. Also the local mobile phone was a very nice extra. The villa of Peter and Janet is really good value for money and we definitely would come again!

  • We had a really lovely stay at Peter's & Janet's villa in Ubud. The villa and the grounds were exactly as described in the photos, and very private, with a short, fun little walk to Ubud town through the Monkey Forrest. The staff comes every day to clean the villa.

It is a bit gnarly to get around at night without your own ride, or driver, as the walk through Monkey Forrest is closed at night, and the walk around the forrest is dark & narrow, and used a lot by motorbikes, with little room for pedestrians to get out of the way. The long way around is even worse & very unsafe on foot. Definitely arrange some type of transport if you plan to spend any time after sunset in Ubud town.

All the good cafes & restaurant deliver food & drinks easily to the house.

Thanks again, Peter & Janet, for having us!

  • This villa is a really cosy place to stay in a fantastic part of Ubud. The house is breezy with doors open, but also has ceiling fans and air conditioning. The furniture and beds are comfortable. The decor tasteful.

It's great to take a dip in the pool before relaxing on the outdoor furniture after a hot walk through Bali or an adventure in nearby hills.

The kitchen is well-equipped and it's easy to find places to shop and buy groceries. Pizza Bagus on Jalan Hanuman (about a 20 minute walk) has a deli counter with European cheese and cold cuts. There's a regular supermarket on the same street.

The neighbourhood is superb with plenty of local craft shops, cafes and convenience stores. It's an amazing experience to sit outside at nearby Coffee and Copper Cafe and watch the monkeys play in the next-door "Monkey Sanctuary" trees.

A walk through the Monkey Sanctuary leads to more crafts, shops and restaurants. Three Monkeys restaurant on Monkey Forest Road offers outdoor dining on the edge of a rice field. In the other direction, "Kafe" on Jalan Hanuman has excellent sandwiches. (Both establishments serve bacon — a boon for pork-deprived residents of Muslim Indonesia).

Sweet Villa staff are professional, helpful and very friendly. Upon arrival we were met by our host Peter and house manager Yoni. Peter toured us around the house and gave us tips about the local area. Yoni kept in touch throughout our stay, checking in daily to make sure we had everything we needed.

I highly recommend taking a tour with driver Dewa to nearby temples, rice paddies and cafes.

One thing I didn't get to do because I only found out about it on the last day was take the downhill bicycle tour, which sounds amazing. I've subsequently spoken to a friend who said to go in the morning and plan for a few hours.

About
We're a family of 5 from Canada living in Indonesia. This is our fourth year abroad and we don't know if we will ever leave! In 2011, we bought and renovated our dream house, in Nyuh Kuning, a neighourhood just south of the Monkey Forest in Ubud, where we now live. Our three children (a teenager and twin tweens) attend the famous 'Green School' here in Bali, about 25 minutes away. Janet runs a magazine called Inspired Bali, as well as teaching various yoga retreats throughout the year. Peter is a former journalist turned entrepreneur, and is the cofounder (email hidden) in Ubud called Hubud. Come stay with us!
