Sweet villa, best 'hood in Ubud!

House - Entire home/apt · Ubud, Bali 80571, Indonesia

The Space

This newly renovated eco-luxe villa is located in Nyuh Kuning, Ubud's best village! Great for couples, families, and solo travellers, the villa has 2 bedrooms, and space for 4. Nestled on a quiet street, the property is a five-minute walk to Ubud's famous monkey forest, and from there, a ten-minute walk into central Ubud.

Guest Access

The villa is set in it's own private small compound, with a private pool, multiple outdoor sitting areas, and relaxing hammock. The master bedroom has AC, a large cupboard, a safe, and it's own bathroom. The second bedroom has AC, a desk, and a large dresser. The kitchen is fully kitted-out, and includes a large fridge, a sink, and toaster oven, etc. There's also a second bathroom with a shower and a washing machine.
The rental also includes a daily house cleaning service each morning.

There's a few built-in perks if you stay with us: we include a local mobile phone, to help make your stay go smoothly. Our television also has a hard drive full of great movies (over 100+) should you want to spend the night at home.

Interaction with Guests

During your stay with us, we're happy to suggest things to do, places to see, and interesting people to meet. Some of our favourite things in Ubud are yoga classes, mountain biking, and visits to some of Bali's incredible temples. We can also connect you a local driver, or help rent a scooter. We'll even hook you up with a baby-sitter if you want a night off from your kids!

We're an active Canadian family of 5 - three boys, the oldest age 15, and twins age 10. Four years ago we relocated to Bali, and have been enjoying the change of pace and fresh air ever since. We love Bali, and love meeting new people. Come stay with us!

The Neighborhood

Nyuh Kuning, our village, is clean, quiet, and friendly. It's the perfect place to stay if you want to be close to the action, but a bit hidden away.

Getting around

The easiest way to get around is by foot, but bike and scooter, and of course private car/taxi, are good options too!

  • Lovely place, great location and helpful hosts. Even more charming than the photos. Would absolutely return!

  • Where to begin? Everything here is awesome! Indeed best neighborhood, indeed sweet villa... Everything is exactly as it looks on the photos, and feels even better. Excellent designed and cosy house, spacious for two or three adults or a couple with 1-2 kids. Pool may be small but is big enough to cool down and nicely hang around. Like the big big chair on the veranda, we loved that one!
The peaceful location couldn't be better considering that on the other site of the Monkey Forest (gate is at the end of the road, a 2 min. walk) you step into the hectic city life of Ubud (we rented a scooter, what we recommend for going to Ubud; walking is possible but wouldn't recommend it - or you can take a (scooter) taxi round the corner or in town).
Kitchen is fully equipped but we did not use it very much because at the end of the road you can have a good breakfast at the cosy Coffee & Copper. Lunch and diner you have in one of the many good restaurants in town. Beer, drinks and peanuts you get around the corner.
The staff (cleaning lady every morning, pool guy and the hosts) are very sweet and Peter the owner is very relaxed and friendly, he popped in twice during our 5-day stay to ask if we needed anything and manager Yoni arranged the scooter for us, which was delivered at home. Also the local mobile phone was a very nice extra. The villa of Peter and Janet is really good value for money and we definitely would come again!

  • We had a really lovely stay at Peter's & Janet's villa in Ubud. The villa and the grounds were exactly as described in the photos, and very private, with a short, fun little walk to Ubud town through the Monkey Forrest. The staff comes every day to clean the villa.

It is a bit gnarly to get around at night without your own ride, or driver, as the walk through Monkey Forrest is closed at night, and the walk around the forrest is dark & narrow, and used a lot by motorbikes, with little room for pedestrians to get out of the way. The long way around is even worse & very unsafe on foot. Definitely arrange some type of transport if you plan to spend any time after sunset in Ubud town.

All the good cafes & restaurant deliver food & drinks easily to the house.

Thanks again, Peter & Janet, for having us!

  • This villa is a really cosy place to stay in a fantastic part of Ubud. The house is breezy with doors open, but also has ceiling fans and air conditioning. The furniture and beds are comfortable. The decor tasteful.

It's great to take a dip in the pool before relaxing on the outdoor furniture after a hot walk through Bali or an adventure in nearby hills.

The kitchen is well-equipped and it's easy to find places to shop and buy groceries. Pizza Bagus on Jalan Hanuman (about a 20 minute walk) has a deli counter with European cheese and cold cuts. There's a regular supermarket on the same street.

The neighbourhood is superb with plenty of local craft shops, cafes and convenience stores. It's an amazing experience to sit outside at nearby Coffee and Copper Cafe and watch the monkeys play in the next-door "Monkey Sanctuary" trees.

A walk through the Monkey Sanctuary leads to more crafts, shops and restaurants. Three Monkeys restaurant on Monkey Forest Road offers outdoor dining on the edge of a rice field. In the other direction, "Kafe" on Jalan Hanuman has excellent sandwiches. (Both establishments serve bacon — a boon for pork-deprived residents of Muslim Indonesia).

Sweet Villa staff are professional, helpful and very friendly. Upon arrival we were met by our host Peter and house manager Yoni. Peter toured us around the house and gave us tips about the local area. Yoni kept in touch throughout our stay, checking in daily to make sure we had everything we needed.

I highly recommend taking a tour with driver Dewa to nearby temples, rice paddies and cafes.

One thing I didn't get to do because I only found out about it on the last day was take the downhill bicycle tour, which sounds amazing. I've subsequently spoken to a friend who said to go in the morning and plan for a few hours.

  • Peter was very quick to respond and resolve a problem we had with the reservation very transparantly and fair. Thanks once again!

  • I recently stayed with my husband and 6 year old daughter at Peter & Janet’s Villa. An absolutely delightful private 2 bedroom villa recently renovated with excellent facilities including a selection of movies to keep the kids entertained when the private pool wasn't. Being just down the road from the monkey forest made our daily walks into town an unforgettable experience. Our hosts Peter & Janet and their house staff Yonni were delightful and very helpful assisting us in any way they could to make our stay more enjoyable. The area is full of an amazing array of culture not found in the dedicated tourist spots. Peter even took the time to come and draw us a hand drawn map with a few recommended off the beaten track places that made our experience all the more enjoyable. Thanks guys, we will be going back next time...

  • Janet and Peter were excellent hosts. In addition to a great place to stay they had great recommendations and the driver they arranged for us were perfect. Everything with the Villa was exactly as it was represented online. We really appreciated the privacy that the villa offered, while still being close to the activity of Ubud. The pool was perfect on a hot day and the outdoor chairs perfect for relaxing. They recently renovated the villa and it was clear that they take great care for it. Not only does it have a full kitchen, but it is stocked with pots, pans, strainers and everything you need to cook great meals. We also really appreciated the local cell phone that they provided and as hosts they were always incredibly responsive with any questions we had. We would highly recommend them as hosts and their property as an excellent place to stay.

  • Peter and the villa manager, Yoni, were very helpful, even prior to our arrival in Bali - they offered to arrange a transfer from the airport and provided detailed directions to the villa when we opted to take a taxi. The villa had everything we needed and the surroundings were peaceful and quiet. We had a great time enjoying the culture and sights in Ubud, especially the food and hike up to Mt Batur.

  • This great little place was our home away from home in Ubud. We were grateful it was just outside the hubbub of town, while being only a short walk/scoot through the Monkey Forest to great shopping, yoga classes, and cafes. We particularly enjoyed the outdoor showers, numerous lounging locations and bright colours, and found the local mobile phone provided very handy. Yoni, the manager of the villa, was a delight, and helped us organise anything we needed, while Peter helped find us the most wonderful driver, Dewa, to take us to Padangbai for snorkelling at the last minute. Thanks Peter and staff - we had a great time, and we'll back as soon as time permits!

  • Janet and Peter have been lovely and thoughtful hosts.

They found a baby cot for our little boy, introduced their lovely helper so that we had a baby sitter in the evening - it was a relief to know they knew each other - organised our airport transfers, suggested different nice restaurants, dropped by a couple of times to check if everything was ok. Another very good point about their house is a 3 minutes walk to the monkey forest and our baby loved seeing them. We went twice a day! ;)

About
We're a family of 5 from Canada living in Indonesia. This is our fourth year abroad and we don't know if we will ever leave! In 2011, we bought and renovated our dream house, in Nyuh Kuning, a neighourhood just south of the Monkey Forest in Ubud, where we now live. Our three children (a teenager and twin tweens) attend the famous 'Green School' here in Bali, about 25 minutes away. Janet runs a magazine called Inspired Bali, as well as teaching various yoga retreats throughout the year. Peter is a former journalist turned entrepreneur, and is the cofounder of a coworking space in Ubud called Hubud. Come stay with us!
