Kamo is a small village with a JR railway station 1.2 km from the house. Kamo has the benefit of a quiet and calm rural lifestyle but with a JR train station with frequent trains. There are direct trains to Nara ( 15 minutes) and Osaka (50 minutes). Kyoto is one transfer away by train (57 minutes). It has some really nice cafes, a few restaurants and a supermarket.

Kamo is surrounded by mountains, the highest of which is about 600 metres. There are quiet temples and 700 year old stone carvings in the village. The tea plantations of Wazuka can be seen in the distance. There are many quiet and well maintained roads to explore the beautiful countryside by bicycle. There are also many tracks for mountain biking and hiking.

After making a reservation, I can share many cycling routes that I have created on Strava for you to plan your trip. These include flat and mostly traffic-free rides to Kyoto and Osaka as well as mountainous routes in the countryside. A category 3 climb starts about 1 km from the house. A category 2 climb is 10 km away.

We are a Japanese and British couple with two sons, a black lab, 6 chickens and a big allotment. Living in a small village in Kyoto Prefecture, we’re lucky to have amazing countryside all around us and Nara only 15 minutes away by train. Kyoto and Osaka are also less than one hour away by train. We live next door to the Airbnb and know the area really well. We have lots of recommendations for people to enjoy a calm and authentic stay in Japan.
