Great location

1952 bus called “Señorita Mojave.” Considered “upscale” primitive camping because no tent required. PET FRIENDLY! Tin Valley Retro Rentals was featured on Nat Geo’s documentary show “Badlands, Texas, and has caught the attention of travelers all over the world. 90 private acres nestled in the foothills of surrounding mountains. Perfect for stargazing! Located near Big Bend National & State Park & the Rio Grande. Families, solo travelers, couples, photographers, weddings, are all welcomed!

The space
"Senorita Mojave" is a “home-grown” girl of Terlingua. Special because she has been down on the Rio Grande for over 20 years. With her hip charming interior & her soon to be “hip” mural exterior, you can't help but feel ready for your new adventure. She is considered “upscale primitive” because she has enough solar energy to power a telephone and/or fan and even has a propane heater for the cold months. As long as your fur baby isn’t aggressive & doesn’t eat kitties, WE LOVE having pets! Both the Big Bend National Park & the State Park provide the largest protected area of Chihuahuan desert topography & ecology also giving a stunning sunrise, sunset & magnitude of stars with Milky Way directly above. Also, feel free to check out our other 11 campsites, from “glamping” Airstreams, to a Land Yacht, & even a VW bug.

The following is provided at your campsite:
1. King & Full Futon - YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR BEDDING/LINENS.
2. Small fan.
3. Propane heater. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR 20 lb. PROPANE CANISTER.
4. Wifi available on property.
5. Solar energy for temporary light source and/or charging of your phone, computer, etc... If it is rainy or cloudy it will not work so bring your own flash lights/light source. PLEASE NOTE: Do NOT use heating electric appliances. Solar panel does not have enough energy.
6. Small BBQ grill, fire pit, & picnic table at campsite. (bring plenty of wood with you!)
7. Port-o-Potty within walking distance.
8. Outdoor shower (no hot water) & sink within walking distance. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN TOILETRIES.
9. Shower/bath house, laundry facility, swimming pool - 4 miles away

This campsite is self check-in/self check-out. No key required. In order to keep rates down your help is needed. PLEASE leave your campsite as clean or cleaner than when you arrived. A broom and rake are provided. There is a trash can at your site and a large trash bin on property. Please assist in keeping everyone's vacation experience the best it can be by cleaning up. Thank you!
*No running water at this campsite.

Guest access
Property is: *35 miles to Terlingua, Terlingua Ghost Town, Study Butte, and to the front entrance of Big Bend National Park. *5 miles to the back entrance of Big Bend National Park, but high clearance and/or 4-wheel drive is needed for this route. *4 miles to Terlingua Ranch Lodge, (available to you) which has a swimming pool, full service restaurant, shower house, and laundry facility. *20 miles to the closest grocery store. *35 miles to the closest gas station.

Other things to note
Not to discourage you from booking but please be aware that this campsite is a self check-in site and there are certain guidelines to follow so that I can continue to keep the rates as low as they are. PLEASE clean the campsite before you leave. This means sweeping, throwing away trash, making bed, cleaning out fire pit, stacking outdoor chairs next to fire pit (or they will blow away), picking up any trash that may have blown into bushes nearby, and raking entire site. Close all windows (dirt & rain). Clean off picnic table and make sure no food stains are left on it. Your goal is to leave this campsite cleaner than when you arrived so that it is ready for the next guests to arrive. Please assist in keeping everyone's vacation experience the best it can be. And again, by helping out this will keep the rates down. Thank you so much!

Here are a few more things to know when you arrive to Tin Valley Retro Rentals.

Tin Valley now has firewood for sale.
$10 per bundle.
Payment is on the honor system...PLEASE leave the cash in the orange box next to the wood.
(Located along fence next to brown Willie Nelson bus.)
*Tip to starting a good fire: Start small and ONLY add once the fire grows. Too much too soon will only give you smoke! And do NOT stack wood on top of one another! It will never start. The key to a good fire is to stack the wood like a tipi, with enough fire starter in the middle to get a small fire going. The flame from the fire starter will ignite the wood circled around it. Once that wood is burning you can then keep adding additional wood for a great, long lasting fire. (Dead cactus and/or small twigs are great fire starters, if you need assistance.)

When you leave your campsite/RV please check for kitties inside, as they tend to sneak in and hide...And PLEASE check the top of your vehicles before you drive off. I seem to have a kitty that enjoys hanging out on car roofs and has “roof surfed” out of here twice already! Lol! His name was just “Stubb’s,” but he is now known as “Stubb’s the Roof-Top Kitty Surfer.”
Thanks!

We are a 4/20 property. Keep in mind that there is not a border patrol check “coming into” the Big Bend area; however, you do have a check LEAVING the area, both towards Alpine and Marathon. Feel free to leave behind anything of concern at your campsite.

During your stay I would like to invite you to help build something very special here at Tin Valley Retro Rentals. I have added paint & brushes to your campsite. You can pick your own special rock from anywhere on the property, including the mountain, and then paint something special on it. Be sure to include your name and date and then pick your spot of where you want to leave it.
(To keep the brushes lasting please wash the paint out after using...thank you!)

Due to recent events, we are kindly asking guests to keep Tin Valley a political free zone. Any political, offensive, hateful or vulgar writing/painting left behind will be considered vandalism and will be reported to local authorities as well subject to a fee for damages. Thank you for helping us keep Tin Valley a place of peace and positivity.

And final thing; If you have extra pennies or other coins, I would love for you to throw them around your campground. Copper is good energy for the property...AND is just another quirky fun thing to do. :)

Look forward to your visit!
