Our mission is to preserve this beautiful piece of architectural history for future generations. As our guest, we are grateful for your help in supporting that mission. We welcome you to come take a step back in time & experience a taste of what it was like to live in a high Victorian home. We encourage our guests to move freely about the property and public spaces, and to make themselves at home, just as The Starrett family once did. During its nearly 130 year history this house has acted as a private residence, a French restaurant, boarding house, and for the last 30 years a B&B. As the current stewards, we love it as our family home which we are thrilled to share with guests from near and far, while preserving it and sharing it with others. ALLERGY WARNING: There are 3 sweet cats and 1 small friendly dog onsite. Though they are never allowed in guestrooms & are kept in the ground floor residence while guests are present, there is always a possibility of irritation or that a cat will sneak into the upstairs if exterior doors are left ajar. Because of this, we unfortunately cannot guarantee the comfort of guests who are highly allergic or sensitive to cats or dogs. If this is the case, we can happily refer you to quality pet-free local accommodations.

Guest access
We now have a shared guest fridge in the hall. We are proud to offer environmentally friendly bulk bath products, bottled water, fine linens, & guest robes, as well as organic tea and coffee in the dining room, self-service 24/7. Guests are also encouraged to enjoy the 1st floor parlor, fireplace sitting room, dining room, porches, and lounge in the yard. This should truly be your home away from home. Our rooms are free of electronics so that our guests can unplug and enjoy the peace and quiet, just as it was in 1889.

Other things to note
Built in 1889 by George Starrett in the Gothic & Stick-styles, George and Ann Starrett lived in the home with their only child Edwin, his nanny, and 2 servants for more than twenty years. The joy and peace that they maintained in the house is felt immediately by anyone who visits, and besides its beauty is what makes the house such a welcoming and comfortable place to stay. The most prominent feature of the house is the free-floating spiral grand staircase, which terminates in a beautiful fresco painted on the ceiling of the 70' tower, representing the 4 seasons. This impressive architectural feature acts as a solar calendar, and is what earned the house the nickname "The House of Four Seasons." Only 1 other staircase of its age & kind still exists in the United States. Original frescoes adorn all of the 1st floor public room ceilings, as well as authentic period fixtures and furnishings, including some of The Starrett's personal possessions.

Historic uptown Port Townsend is a very special place, and considered by most to be the heart of town. A 5 minute walk to Uptown attractions and a small grocery store (Aldrich's) or 5 minutes down the hill to downtown and the waterfront. There is even a little red electric taxi which for a small fee will take you back and forth, or even on a tour of town!
